That is absolutely nonsense. In this 21st century when other people are moving forward, ghanaians think that teaching children using their native language will make a difference.Forget it,it's never going to work. Take a school in Accra there may be chhildren from different homes speaking different languages in one class, will these children be taught maths using twi, ewe, fanti, ga, etc. This is crazy. Give these children a solid foundation. Use english as the language of instruction at schools and let these children speak their native languages at home. I cry for Ghanaain children who will go through this mess. Some incompetent leaders screwing other peoples children up and sending their children to private schools to be taught with english.

So under this proposed method a Frara teacher no matter how qualified she is can not be posted to go and teach at a primary school at Aburi since she might not speak Akwapim. Brains2 you are right this is a VERY BAD idea

Indeed, that much thought hasn't gone into this directive is clear. So which language shall be used in multi-ethnic schools in the urban areas? I am all for making kids literate in their mother tongues, but using Ga to teach say an Ewe, Gonja or Akan in Burma Camp hardly meets that objective! Will there be segregation of pupils into respective language groups?
Anyway, I am surprised 3 people combined to write this article but it contains so many mistakes! It is clear they hated English during their school days!:-)
BTW, one of the last actions of the former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mohameed Bhattir, was to reverse the language policy he instituted at the beginning of his rule, substituting Malay for English as the medium of instruction in schools, and thereby restoring English its primacy. What was meant to give an advantage to the less educated Malays became a bottleneck, as the Chinese and Indians made sure their kids reserved private lessons in English and they became the gatekeepers for the foreign investors. Malay univ. graduates struggle to speak some bad English!

No part of the current educational syllabuses prevents a teacher from using any local language that will let pupil understand the concept being taught. So why this demand?
A wholesale replacement of English language with suitable local languages is unlikely to bring a benefits. The points herein raised are still better achieved by using appropriate T/LMs and not necessarily by using local languages.

How many science and technolgy books are written in our local dialects to grab the imagination of future scientists at an early age?
This is simply a joke.
Does the Ministry of Education know the financial strain this is going to put on the system in trying to get trained teachers from the local areas to teach in the local dialects?
Why can't we keep the old system where we used the local languages alongside English?
Just fix the old system and maintain it by having well-trained teachers like we used to have AND KEEP PAYING THESE TEACHERS GOOD MONEY TO KEEP THEM IN THE CLASSROOMS.
