Having said that, I am also of the view that Ghana should be thankful for the so-called Embassy staff who made this 'mistake'. The fact is, there was no mistake and indeed, that is the official position of the US Embassy and that is the message given to the Obama administration. That is also the perception among the western embassies and high commissions (the main donor partners).
Why do you think Ghana's donor partners are refusing, unwilling or reluctant to support Ghana? Because their representatives in Accra are telling them about the luxury lifestyles of government officials, the wanton dissipation of scarce resources through GYEEDA, SADA and payments of dubious judgement debts, incompetence and corruption within government.
Instead of Mahama blaming donor partners by moaning in what appears to be naming and shaming, he should act to stop the incompetence, wastage and corruption within his government. Yes, the US Embassy is wrong but, what was put on twitter is a fact. The Ambassador should have diplomatically expressed that to directly to Mahama rather than do it publicly on Twitter.

There are no people in Africa who are as proud as Ghanaians are, of their nationality.
These Nigerians that you are spouting off about with all the superlatives of adjectives... if they are as you claim them to be, then why do they go to all these lengths to get Ghanaian passports?
After they illegally obtain these passports from corrupt government officials, what do you think they do with these passports? They travel around the world with ease because European and North American countries respect holders of our Ghanaian passports. Nigerians are known all over the world as scammers, thieves, armed robbers etc. Even after they obtain these illegal Ghanaian passports, they still commit these crimes and once they are apprehended, they say they are Ghanaians, thinking that might get them off the hook.
The Europeans and North Americans have caught on to this trend, so their immigration officers are rounding up these fake Ghanaians by busloads at their aiports and locking them up.
I've lived in North America for over 15 years so Iknow what I'm talking about. The NIGERIANS have made life very difficult for other law-abiding Africans living in Europe and North America.
So if the Nigerians are the ones you look up to as your heroes, then you have a long way to go in terms of mental development.
And as far as you thinking Ghanaians should condemn the US enmasse because of the tweet snafu, I think you should have your head examined if you think Ghanaians will follow blindly whatever Mahama says anymore and, therfore, jump all over the US embassy staff for having the balls to put out there what a lot of Ghanaians have been thinking about but didn't have the gumption to ask.

Lesson two, depending on how old you are, lots of Ghanaians traveled abroad with Nigerian passport in the 1980 as well when Nigeria passport could take you anywhere in Europe and North America. As a matter of fact, just mention the passport and a Ghanaian in those days used them. Please stop that meaningless argument as prove of people clamoring for the Ghanaian passport. It is the convenience stupid. I don't mean that is an insult.

I am not for a moment asking you not to lambast the corrupt NDC govt.if anything,I encourage you to do more however in a civilized way. Hold them to account for,that is your duty as a proud Ghanaian.
What I do not encourage you to do however,is to invite America as a sovereign country to come to Ghana and disrespect the president Ghanaians voted to be their leader.

Finally, yes! some Nigerians may be criminals just as some Ghanaians. I have traveled more than you have my friend and I can assure you that desperate people do stupid stuff.
Those of us who lived in Nigeria in the 1980s worked as teachers, their construction companies, hospitals but never will a foreigner be allowed to sell or buy Nigerian lands. There were certain areas of the economy that was a no go area for foreigners.
But go to Ghana today and even Chinese, Lebanese,Indians,Srilankans
disrespects and mistreat Ghanaian housemaids and nobody gives a hoot about it. Trust me that will never happen in Nigeria.
You go to a bank in Ghana and the above mentioned nationalities are given a first class treatment and the local are ignored.
The pride I am talking about is knowing and standing for one's right in their own house and not waiting for a redeemer from God knows where.

I consider myself a well-educated individual and I can sense someone just as well educated by the way a person stands up for himself.
As a matter of fact, I think we are on the same side judging from what I just read from you because there seems to be a lot of similarities in our personal life stories.
This may come as a surprise to you but I also lived and worked in Nigeria in the 80's as an Engineer so I know Nigerians just as good as you know them, my fellow Agege hustler. You seem to admire them. I don't. I just respect them as fellow Africans.
One thing I intentionally put out just to protect my identity was my years in North America and this is not to have a leg up over you for the duration of your stay in North America. I've been here longer than you have so your 30 years in North America doesn't deflate in anyway anything of mine. Just saying.
It's unfotunate that we didn't meet under the best of circumstances.We could have been 'friends'.
A few things I'll like to correct in your argument, though, are the acquisition of passports:
While it's true that people of different nationalities can travel using different passports, you erred by not saying 'legally acquired'.
UN has a provision for such situations in the cases of refugees where people being prosecuted in their own countries for whatever reasons can be issued a different passport with the consent of the host country to travel to another country for resettlement. That is legal.
Using another country's passport which was illegally obtained without that person being a naturalized citizen of the said country is what I was talking about.
Countries don't willingly allow other nationals to travel on their passports for the sole purpose of engaging in criminal activities in other countries. That's what the Nigerians do whether you like it or not. So that tells you that they have an attraction to the Ghanaian passports and citizenship because they afford an 'easy way' out for these criminally-mined group.
As for that infamous tweet from the American embassy, I'm not going to apologize for advocating that it served Mahama right. US might be an outside entity but remember US has a vested interest in Ghana too and they have seen that every thing is going down the toilet.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the US but in this case, I go by the motto 'MY ENEMY'S ENEMY IS MY FRIEND'. So if the US putting to 'shame' the useless activities of the current Ghana government is what is going to take to make the government stop being in denial that Ghana's economy is in dire need of proper management by those in charge , then so be it. I don't think I'm selling my soul to the 'devil' by supporting US. What it shows, though, is that I love my country so much so that I'll subscribe to 'any means necessary' to help save Ghana from the clutches of these politicians who have made Ghana a shell of her former self.
So if we talked about pride in one's country, protecting your country from 'internal saboteurs' also comes into play. Mahama and his gang of theives are, in my books, "internal saboteurs" because they have crippled the country economically.
Although, I've lived in North America all these years, I AM A GHANAIAN TRUE & TRUE. I'm proud of my country. She gave me one of the best education a person could ask or wish for, and for that I hate to see my country fail in rendering the same privilege to the young Ghanaians growing up.
We are a very rich country so why should have our leaders even made it easy for the US to respond to that tweet by going to the Western word with a cup in hand, begging while mismanaging our enormous natural resouces and wealth?
That's my beef.
You see, they went to the western world abegging while mismanaging the immense wealth of our nation. So why wouldn't the US or even a lowly classed clerk in that embassy muster the courage to ask the president that question?
The point I was trying to make is that Mahama and and his failing gang placed themselves in that position to be riducled.
No one person (president) or group of persons (politicians) is bigger or more important than Ghana.
They laid that bed, so let them sleep in it.
I like to go home with my wife and kids every year and spend time with friends and family. I cherish those moments because there's no place like home.
Being a Ghanaian is a blessing, so don't you for a minute think that my long stay in North America has made me think of myself as an American. Will never happen. You can see from my posts how passionate I'm about things concerning Ghana.

Diplomatically it may be wrong but in person, I think he is right to tweet back to Mahama's message. This embassy staff though may receive his pay check in dollars but mind you he exchange it and go to Ghanaian market to buy his daily needs which he feels the economic pinch as any other Ghanaian is feeling. In that context, he is right to voice out his feelings. Mahama prior to starting his term of office and his church visit messages has made Ghanaians to believe that all will be well which every indications point out that the economy is in total annihilation.
Simple put, if Mahama is not a fool then it will be difficult to find a one beside him. This is a person with unblemished resume or CV both in academics and working experience prior to his ascendency to the highest office in the land and his performance so far is abysmal. Chairman Rawlings with just O'level certificate and military service as his working experience did better than this dodo. Yes he need to be shaken up. The American embassy was right in sending out that tweet, in my opinion, be it errant or not.
Somebody with a bigger stick should let the lead clown Mahama and his cohorts know that it's not only Ghanaians who have come to the realization that our leaders are clueless and are in over their heads with the task Ghana is currently facing.
As a matter of fact, what surprises me is that the embassy should even apologize. After all, they asked a very good question. Another surprise is that they didn't come out openly to advocate for the overthrow of this useless, corrupt and thieving government... sovereign nation and all that mambo jambo be damned.
These crooks don't have any right to rule Ghana judging from what we have seen so far.
This useless government should take that as the first salvo from the US.
