The purpose of land management and development is not only to build houses, dig up minerals and cut down trees and farm but to balance human development against available resources and a sustainable infrastructure base to support communities. Ghana like almost all Sub Saharan African nations do put up structures without planning, dig up minerals without consideration to environmental impacts and harvest natural resources with replenishment. Migration and the acquisition of land is not the issue in Ghana but what comes after structures have been erected without design or planning. Government must have a means and the ability for its agencies to locate and track owners to collect taxes and or provide medical and emergency resources. Land prices in Ghana went up 100 fold over the past 25 years because our kinfolks in the Diaspora did not give a darn what their pricing scheme did to people who have lived all their natural lives in Ghana. Do not expect the government of Ghana, local or national, to carve out another exemption or facilitate the interests of migrants to exploit at the expense of those who have held on through the good and bad times in Ghana.
