In fact, even some non-Asante Akans, invariably former vassals of the Asantes in the other regions, harped on the same claims, urging the "brave Asantes" to front their attacks on others for them. Just like that crazed mand from Assin Foso also did. If I were an Asante, I'd tell off those people, instead of feel swollen headed and proud about the exploits of some "glorious ancestors". After all, most Asantes were just ordinary, plain subjects eking out a living in the forest zones and occasionally be compelled to join slave raiding, plundering and looting wars during the height of the Asante kingdom, the youngest and last of the Akan kingdoms that arose in the forest zones of Ghana.

No chief/king in Ghana has passed any meaningful law(s) that can have an impact on their citizens lives.
I used the Ashanti kingdom as an example because they hold their kingdom in very high regard, unlike the Gas for instance who don't give a hoot about who their chief/king is. Same goes to the Fantis, Ewes, Kwahus, etc. Our traditional rulers are ceremonial entities who enjoy some respect only when they sit in state. They feel honored when a few obroni hustlers are spotted in the crowds.
The politicians have taken all the power from our traditional rulers. How many times does the chief assemble his people for, let's say an election? The politician comes every four years to at least put up a school, or some electric poles (without lights) for some personalities in the community to benefit from some financial largesse. The chief of the Akyems for example is supposed to be highly respected. Fine, but who commands more respect if not the eastern regional minister who passes all the laws. From where a KVIP should be located, to where the chief should park his car (if he has one.)
