Earlier governments in their wisdom thought that we should have a national film and television institute (NAFTI). Many would recall time with NAFTI. What happened to NAFTI???????????
We must get to the bottom of this.

C'mmon. What's happening at Legon CANNOT HAPPEN in any civilised country. In those countries, you can't even make an extension to your building without passing through a rigorous exercise of approval from even your neighbours! Talk of blocking and tolling roads constructed with public funds which have been used as public thoroughfares for decades!
[Some] Ghanaians indeed are not civilised, as Ken Kuranchie went to prison and realised, a big, ugly savage that he is himself. That's why some can see the lawless actions of the univ. authorities as admirable institution building. Of course, Gbevlo Lartey's action was equally lawless!

That name Hussein has long been dropped from President Obama's name. It is only his detractors in the Republican party who still add that name. Religious fanatics should allow people freedom of worship.

Second, I know you don't understand what Obama referred to as building imitations in Africa. It doesn't mean using force to get what get what you want, ok? In fact, it's the direct opposite of using force. Sometimes, I know some people have problem with American English in Ghana. So I'm not surprised that you didn't understand him. That's why we can't get common, and I mean common electric energy 24/7 after 57 years thinking the same way you are thinking right now! You think what UG authorities are doing is the type of building strong institutions Obama talked about? Really?? It's that the sustainable way, or you think there should be a better way out there somewhere? You see the way most Ghanaians think? Very short sighted, indeed! Eyes are watching if UG authorities actions are the most sustainable way of fixing their problems. And I'll expect you to rewrite your story, ok? Be careful about giving names to people! Thanks.

Point of correction: I mean, building "strong institutions" not imitations. Auto correct error. Thanks.

Obama's middle name is Hussein.
In this case, Al-Hajj is right.
This is without prejudice to his flawed argument; or your excellent riposte.

I however dare to say we sometimes need strongmen in our part of the world. My good example is how it took the current IGP to implement the POLICE VISIBILITY PROGRAMME which is yielding positive results and giving the police a good name.

In western civilized nations especially in the United States of America and in UK where state/public institutions receive some government funding, administrators of those institutions do present to its board for public debate or airing school decisions with the potential to impact students as well as people in their immediate surrounding communities; that is civil and responsible decision making at its best. No one would have a leg to stand on debating the curriculum of UG or any of its internal wrangling but when a decision such as traffic flow that impacts students and communities in the outlays are being considered, someone in the UG administration should have known that UG is not an island unto itself. At the very least someone should have recognized that UG receives funding from the national government.
There are teaching and administrative staff members at UG who did get their advanced degrees/credentials from the USA or UK and elsewhere and they should have known better. The action of the UG administrators in this saga points to the fact that no matter where some of Ghana's leaders get their education, training and work ethics most return to Ghana and throw out of the window the things, best processes and practices, that work well in the Diaspora, and resort to the crude, authoritarian methods in Ghana where people with authority become the law and no room for deliberation with the people they deem to be subordinates. This is why Ghana is screwed at the government level and at our institutions. I dare anyone of those administrators to dispute what I say are best practices at state funded universities in the Diaspora to be inaccurate.

If mounting road blocks on public roads and desperately extorting money from motorist means building something then very soon, Ghana will collapse into enclaves and not nationhood

Collecting of tolls is the cheapest and the most ridiculous way an academic institution can make money. you should advice the university to turn research into wealth.
