Some churches are involved in all sorts of philanthropic activities. They bring a lot of foreign currency into the country for these purposes. However there are many churches, especially the Nigerian churches, which don't bring any foreign currency into this country. They are able to collect from their church members in cedis amounts of enormous proportions. They then buy US dollars or euros and then either transfer it to Nigeria through swift transfers or drive it from Ghana into Nigeria. Any Nigerian church involved in such activities must be shut down by the BOG.
Any Nigerian who wants to purchase foreign currency with cedis must be given Nigerian Naira or CFA Franc.

The fact that others were not included should not be a problem to you since they themselves have not complained about it being a problem to them. But I hope when christians are discriminated against by the government or any government in the world, as this has always been the case in some countries, you would find this same voice to complain.

Yes! for once, I also disagree with Bokor. No matter what Ghana and Africa need prayers to come out of this mess. Do you believe that it is God who gives wisdom? Through persistent prayer God can touch our leaders and the entire nation with wisdom. Do you believe that God gives insight? I believe through persistent prayer, God can turn our wicked hearts from all corruptions and open our understanding to the wicked things we do to ourselves and our nation so that repentance can lead us to resolve to do things well. Wherever you are writing from (definitely not Ghana) that country has ever believed and trusted in God and it worked for them. Do not only look at what they are doing today and feel God doe not exist. Why should some people write it boldly "in God we trust".

Christianity becomes a transformational way of life only when the adherent lives it to the fullest. Since majority of ghanaians profess christianity as their religion it's easy to see that its impact has been very minimal in the lives of the people.
The change that the priests are craving for must start from the pulpit to the congregation to the home to the office and the work place.
The priests must teach their congregations the dignity, nobility and essence of work. Jesus said to his accusers in John 5:17 , "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work." In Paul's letter to the Thessalonian saints he admonished them "Study to work with your own hands." (1 Thes 4:11).
It's also important that christians maintain a healthy balance between family work and church. The all night all day church sessions must give way to productive labor.
God's people are a righteous, hardworking and law abiding people. In addition to the requirement to obey all God's commandments they must also honor, sustain and obey the laws of the land where they live.
The following scriptures will help every christian if they will listen and obey.
2 Chr. 7:14 (If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven; and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.")
Isaiah 24:2 ("And it shall be, as with the people, so with the priest; as with the servant, so with his master; as with the maid, so with her mistress. ...")
2 Tim 4:3 ("For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.") and finally,
Jeremiah 11:11 ("Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and though they shall cry unto me, I will not hearken unto them").
President Mahama is a product of the rotten system. We all need to be healed. "The apple does not fall far from the tree." or as we say in Twi"Okoto enwo anoma"). The prayers and fasting will yield no positive results if we continue in our own ways that are contrary to God's expectations and continue to transact business as usual. The whole nation needs to change, turn over a new leaf, from John Mahama to the peasant farmer in the village.

We can fast and pray all we want because the heavens won't send any bills like the utility companies but where is our personal responsibility for our own welfare?
How are we doing with record keeping? Where is the transparency, the paper trail without which accountability becomes a mere election campaign rhetoric, waiting to be disposed of into the dustbin of history soon as the election is over and won. For obvious reasons we prefer to do our business in the dark and keep the records in the dark where no one can find them. Every national business is shrouded in mystery and secrecy.
What separates man from the beast is his ability to preserve his experiences and his capacity to reason and think. Needless to say that a record keeping habit procures for man his civilization.
When properly done ideas, experiences and technical know-how are transmitted along with numerous other forms of data and categories of info through the proper keeping of records.
The ability to bless future generations with the accumulated knowledge enables society to progress beyond the under-developed and primitive stages and to sustain an ever increasing social momentum.
Our attitudes, beliefs and institutions are supposed to be products of our historical environment and that many of the most important decisions we make daily ought to be influenced by our understanding of the past and with a an eye towards tomorrow. When we have erroneous views of our past activities we're led down wrong corridors which eventually lead to dead ends. These unfortunately keep happening to our detriment because the direction we pursue is always at variance with the past.
Recently the Transportation Minister was heard crying out loud that charging Ghc1.00 per vehicle at the toll booth was not enough to maintain the Tema Motorway. What did he know about the history of tools collection on this motorway since its completion in the early 1960s? Was he deliberately trying to throw dust in our eyes, thinking we're not privy to the info? Country men, is this and many others the more reason we need the Freedom to Information bill passed into law asap? Good record keeping helps in no small way . It accelerates development and it's as important and necessary as praying and fasting.

It is obvious that Dr. Bokor and all those who think Fasting and Prayers cannot solve Ghana's problems, have themselves never done so before so they don't know their effectiveness. In 2ND CHRONICLES 7;11-14, God spoke to King Solomon that whenever his nations suffers any calamity, the only thing that will move Him(God) to intervene, is when His people who are called by His name-then Israel but now Christians-shall humble themselves(through fasting)and pray, and seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will He hear from heaven, and forgive their sins and heal their land.In 2nd CHRONICLES 20: 3-4, We find King Jehoshaphat, proclaiming a fast to seek God's face for divine intervention when Judah was attacked by the Moabites, Ammonites and Syrians. God heard them and gave them victory. In the book of Esther, when Haman plotted to have all Jews killed in Media-Persia under King Ahasuerus, Esther the Queen who was a Jewess called on all Jews to fast for three days with prayers for as she sought to bring the plot to the king's attention. God heard their intercessions and turned Haman's plot on his own head. Please read the book of Esther. In the book of Jonah, when God sent The Prophet Jonah to proclaim to the nation of Nineveh that they will be destroyed in forty days, The King of Nineveh declared a fast that included every beast and God heard their cries, and reversed His judgment. In the book of Joel, we find the prophet proclaiming God's impending judgment on Judah and encouraged them to turn to God with their whole heart through fasting and prayers. Please the book of Joel for the account. In the boo of Nehemiah and Ezra we find these leaders seeking God's face through fasting and prayers, and God granting their requests. Daniel, the Prime Minister of Babylon, fasted for several days to seek God's face his people the Jews, who were then in exile in Babylon and God heard him. Please read the book of Daniel. In Isaiah chapter 58, the Prophet teaches us the right way to fast and the benefits derived.
Lest anyone say these are all Old Testament stuffs, in the New Testament book of Mark chapter 9 verse 29, Jesus said certain situations can only be resolved through prayer and fasting. please read Mark 9, for the whole story.
Ghana's present situation is no different from the afore-cited instances in the Bible. We have a very complex situation that did not begin with one political party. Any attempt to apportion blame to one party or person will not work. It is a hydra-headed problem that needs to be rooted out once and for all. All Ghanaian Pastors should heed the clarion call of Joel 1:14,& 2:12-17 and seek God's face with all humility of heart ,mind and soul. The President, his cabinet, members of Parliament and all the opposition party members should also join in the fasting with genuine repentance from all the malice, envy, hypocrisy, jealousy, sabotage, pointing of fingers, thievery, immorality, lies,
haughtiness, arrogance, pride, seeds of discord sown, extortion, murder, oppression, acts of subversion and insubordination etc.,that they have and continue to commit. No, Dr. Bokor, Fasting and Prayer does not offer cosmetic fix. When God responds to the cry of a nation through Fasting and Prayers, He breaks spiritual strongholds and physical oppositions that impede progress. He then grants clarity and focus to the leadership to see which direction to take.I will recommend Three days of fasting-no food, no water with incessant prayers. Our God is real, He will hear and heal the land- Economically, Politically, Spiritually and Socially.

While prayer and fasting alone will not solve the Socio-Economic problems, However, the Bible clearly states that righteousness exhorts a nation. Therefore, should Ghanaians become righteous as a result of prayer and fasting, then our beloved nation will be exhorted and become prosperous thus making Ghana the paradise we all want it to be. Prayer and fasting does matter, and could well lead to solving the nation's problems.

"I like it that President Mahama did point out that as much as prayers are important in helping to shape society and the nation, that effort alone cannot achieve the development needed.
His call for hard work from the people and advice that all should take advantage of the opportunities that exist in the country are apt. But there is a lot more to worry about.
When leaders of a country turn to prayer and fasting as the instrument for shaping human behaviour, they confirm impressions that there is a lot more happening than meet the eyes. Prayer and fasting have serious religious (health and moral) benefits and cannot be discounted just because they are being factored into the strategies for governance.
But I am really concerned at this turn to “spirituality”, probably because some people are insistent on creating the impression that God is willing to come down from the heavens to help Ghana solve the existential problems reducing its citizens further down the poverty line.
And some may even question the scope of this prayer-and-fasting agenda, particularly as is being spearheaded by only one segment of what constitutes the religious community in this secular state called Ghana.
Christians!!"

The compelling issue is that Bokor has no clue about proper paragraphing because he was playing truant in Communication Skills class at Cape Vars. And by the way, the proper grammatical naming of the program should be "Communication Skills", not "Communicative Skills", as Gogovi chose to name it.
At the moment, Bokor is a septuagenarian. He was in his fifties and still studying with JSS graduates at Cape Vars in 1997. I was then a young Instructor and a graduate student in that University, having completed my stint as a Teaching Assistant.
