The same university which has been conniving with private realtors to disenfranchise students campus boarding accommodation has now it's own "PWD" PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT? Which faculty be that?
Our universities should not traduce nuisance, nor encroach on any public domain, over to you Gbevlo?

I HAVE LANGUAGE ISSUES WITH THIS PIECE. HOWEVER, I PARTIALLY AGREE WITH JAHSON AND HASTEN TO ADD THAT THE UNIVERSITY WAS ALSO NOT FAIR TO GHANAIANS.

Who is the private entity that owns Legon? The last I knew, Ghana government built Legon with Ghanaian money with the Queen of England as the Chancellor. Who owns it now? Does the government of Ghana not support Legon any longer? If it is private, why would the head of Legon not have the title of Chancellor rather than Vice Chancellor? Why would Kuffour confer onto Kofi Annan the position of Chancellor of Legon if it is privately owned?
Let's say I give that Legon is private. Who authorized the Legon authorities to construct private roads in Ghana and charge tolls for them? Legon is not an entity aside from Ghana. It is part of Ghana and subject to the laws of Ghana. Tell me where in this world has a private entity constructed private roads and charged tolls without authorization from government and I will shut up.

All of you including the shameless Al- Hajj newspaper should bow your head in shame. The Legon issue like all important national issues was thrown to the dogs to discuss. Some of the discussants have not even contracted somebody to build a dog cage before and yet these charlatans sat on radio and TV to denigrate the Legon authorities with all manner of descriptions. In Ghana when an issue arises, instead of bringing renowned experts to talk about it we turn the matter into fish feeding frenzy with all manner of people expressing views as if they are experts in the subject matter. The only mistake the Legon authorities made was to think outside the box(which is a crime in Ghana anyway)to find an innovative solution to a decade-old problem of financing University infrastructure. In the normal backward mentality of Ghanaians we made those who just wanted to brighten the corner where they are look virtually like criminals who were out to steal from us. Even the national security was involved is this shameful act. As somebody puts it Ghana is the only country where it seems the authorities minor on the majors and major on the minors. Are we therefore surprised with our level of development? Nobody should.

You are defending the indefensible. Why should students pay? What crime have the students committed in finding themselves at the UG? Does an average student earn more than a lecturer?

Go to the US, go to European countries and you find that university campuses are accessible to all citizens. Why should Ghana be different? Is the University of Ghana an island? Nonsense from Al-hajj

We have been to universities across the world, and they are not free. You PAY in order to use parking/drive through facilities. Besides, no sensible person would allow 16,000 mostly rowdy, insensitive drivers to transform their workplace into a marketplace of horn-tooting, dangerous driving and indiscriminate pollution. We who call the Legon campus our workplace and home deserve some respect in this matter, and people should stop spewing crap about Legon being public property. The Jubilee/Flagstaff House is public property too, but how come the foolish MPs complaining about the closure of Legon roads don't insist on everybody driving through it anytime their gonococal itches mandate them?
