Hello Tony. Iam not surprised that just two people have commented on your article so far. We enjoy scandalous articles that will not progress the country. You have hit the nail on the head. A few simple steps like you have enumerated using Agric and our cuisine is the way to start tackling our never ending problems. It is easy to despair in this country if you are not an eternal optimist!!!. However we have just one country and we must fix it. I find it refreshing that people like yourself and Ama Serwah still believe that we can make it happen in Ghana. It is such a painful country to live in especially if you try to be principled.. We can make it HAPPEN lets keep pushing

I am confused and lost trying to piece my understanding of this article. Help me. Governments lay out policies to help citizens, companies and entities to lead development. We are still trying to find many bearings. I know we will get there. Like you lived outside like me we have all come home to help build our societies. Let them experience whatever is happening and all will come well.

Obama and Michael Taylor (now with FDA but before with Monsanto) bought out the ENTIRE South African seed bank. The mission is to make Africa buy bioengineered seed each year instead of using natural seed. If you look and taste the new tomato it don't taste right and the look of it is perfectly shaped and always red - unnatural. Time to teach the youth USA kids are now farming. They don't want poison

Point well made. However, I have personally come to the conclusion that it will take progressive minded individuals like your good self to transform our economy. Personally,I choose to write and talk less nowadays but act more. If all meaning Ghanaians decide to act in their own small way at a very progressive pace and not descend in the gutters with these political loose talkers, great strides will be made for our development. I call on liked-minded Ghanaians to shun all loose political talks and do the best we can do in this tough but not too bad economy. God bless our home land Ghana.

I never met the President before so I don't know him, but as the president of Ghana, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt until I see otherwise. That is not to say there is no curruption in his government. I believe there is. He doesn't seem to have control of his government.

The government's team of financial experts should be having "STRATEGIC ANALYSIS and BRAINSTORMING SESSIONS" very frequently. Strategic thinking calls for looking far ahead and always asking "what if's":
"what if the global economic outlook turns up this way...", "what could possibly happen if such a sitiation takes place next quarter?..", "what should we implement to forestall any such eventuality?..", etc.
On the question of Agric graduates and farming, I think the whole societal perception of farming should be altered.
Even though, as we all know very well, farmers in the West are quite wealthy and well respected, the name "farmer" evokes an entirely different imagination in Ghana.
In today's world, technology has greatly transformed what we call "farming". Perhaps the name should be modified: why not call it "food production technology"? Then perhaps our Agric graduates would be proud to call themselves food production technologists, not just in name, but also by action. Today's farming implies LARGE-SCALE production, involving machinery and technology of all kinds. Our Agric graduates should strive to move in that direction.
We could also have a national exposition of Food Production Technologists and their "AGRICULTURAL SYSTEMS".

There are companies who make farm equipment like TroyBuilt, John Deere and so on. I don't presume the government does not know these things. I believe they limit their thinking to someone else coming in to do it. Among the comments to this article is a comment that government lays out policy and others follow it. If that's your idea of government, you lay down the policy and sit back until things overtake you and then you wonder what happened. We have had too many people in government who believe that all they have to do is lay out policy like my friend who commented today.
