This author is pobably drooling at his mouth with such timorous remark of the Ku4's administration having been a far better 'better Ghana agenda'..
As a native Ghanaian will succinctly put it as 'a far better Ghana agenda FOR THE WHERE'?
What this author failed to recognise is the fact that the 30% depreciation of the former Govt under Kuffuor pointed out by Kwakye Ofosu had economic implications as it has spilled over to further depreciate the cedi all due to the unwise monitization policy and the obvious looting which took place among the Ku4's Looters this author describe as technocrats...........techno...what?
Better call them Looters and you could hardly undo the import in Ofosu Kwakye's argument. Yours is just a mere article loaded with needless adjectives, adverbs and verbs.

If Kwakye Ofosu is not qualified to criticize Bawumia, similarly, Bawumia is not qualified to criticize Ofosu's boss, President Mahama; this the message inherent in the article. Criticism whether fair or unfair is merely an opinion and there should be no standards for airing them. Bawumia has viciously criticized the government's poor handling of the economy, and I think it was well within his right to shoot those

Argentina's currency is going through some turbulent period as the cedi but Argentines are not falling over themselves...all that should be advocated now by Mahama's critics should be that he fights corruption, invest in infrastructure and education and regulate the flow of foreign currencies in our economic system......the global economic has not exactly rebounded and patience is the key word here...
In the next couple of months or a year from now when the world economy recovers, our economy which is intricately tied to the former will also recover and whoever is running the affairs of state will be in a position to provide solutions to the problems staring us in the face.....at the moment...

By Felix Ofosu Faakye's remarks about Dr. Bawumia, one can easily conclude that the NDC propaganda minister is an excited fool! These are the people the govt. has employed to do their dirty job, telling lies to Ghanaian esp. about noble people like Bawumia. In December 2013 when he predicted looming economic disaster when NDC went around telling everyone that Ghana will see tremendous economic progress in 2014, NDC's Fiifi Kwetey came on air to rubbish him for pointing things clearly. Now what Dr. Bawumia had predicted is exactly what Ghanaian and the business community is witnessing right now! The Cedi continues to plummet at unprecedented rate against major international currencies on the market. God only knows what's going on in the head of Ofofu-Kwaakye & Co.

Ahoofe is right, who is Kwakye Ofosu to criticize Bawumiah? Bawumiah speaks from economic point of view while Ofosu Kwakye speaks from political point of view. The situation we have in Ghana now is not politics as usual but economic wise. Let us put the politics aside and come together to help save this nation. Let NDC do listen to people like Bawumiah who had been warning NDC from day one of economic doom for his nation. Instead of listening to him, they tagged him as an "accountant" instead of an economist. I hope Ghanaians are watching things unfold. Now we are being told by another economist that the nation's economy will collapse by June if the NDC do not reverse their measures to curb the free flow of the dollar. Let us hope and wait and see if they will listen. Time will tell.

This is undoubtedly one of the best pieces I have come across in recent times! A very objective view of the state of affairs. My brother, I have been expressing similar views and similar fears like you. My deeper fear is that it is even going to be more difficult to have a long-term development plan like the Nkrumah one, considering the level of polarization of the country into ethno-political dichotomies, which is even deepening. You need to read comments on articles posted in Ghanaweb to confirm what I am saying. Just count the number of times derogatory words such as ‘peppeni’, ‘norherner’, ‘southerner’, ‘kwasea’ ‘cocoase’ etc are used as part of comments to almost every article on the Ghanaweb. The president is not criticized based on policies of the NDC government, but mainly on where he hails from. It may not be an exaggeration to estimate that over 90% of comments are ethno-political with less than 10% nationalistic or patriotic. In such a polarized situation, any effort by either of the two main parties to venture a long-term plan which comes at a cost and calls for some sacrifices to be made, could be politically suicidal. The parties develop vote-catching manifestoes that are not necessarily rooted in long-term plans, and when they come to power, their efforts are now on how to fulfill these promises, most of which do not make sound economic sense. For example, what is the economic sense in converting all Polytechnics into universities (are teacher training colleges also included?) and forcing to establish one university in every region? It makes logical sense but does it make economic sense? Are these priorities? Are they urgent? Are we ready now for these? Or consider the political promise of NPP during the last elections, of making SHS education free! Logical and important as this appeared, does it make any economic sense? or it was just a tool to come to power. Yet if they had come to power, for fear of failing their promise, they would have worked against all odds to fulfill their promise.
Added to these are huge government projects that defies logic. Did we really need such a costly presidential palace at this time? Was it urgent? Imagine what could have been done with the same resources in constructing roads, schools, etc. I bet that if a poll were to be conducted in the north, less than 2% would have voted for the guinea-fowl project or even the planting of exotic and economically useless trees. Instead, over 90% would have opted for small scale irrigation dams to engage the youth in dry season vegetable farming, which could have largely contributed to solving the ‘kayeye’ menace.
I cannot but agree with Dr Ibin Chambers point during a lecture delivered at the University of Ghana last year, that an important yardstick of measuring successful leaders is predictability of what they will do. How else can one better predict a leader, if we do not have a long-term national vision with which to measure what present or potential leaders espouse with that vision?
As part of the way forward, is it not possible for the national parliament, the representative of the people, to take the challenge of debating what we consider as our national priorities which could evolve into long-term visions or plans, which should not be toyed with, regardless which government is in power? I am equally so worried about our directionlessness as a nation!!!

Folks, we cannot solve our economic crisis that has been festering for decades with insults from opposing political parties. Ofosu-Kwakye has practically no knowledge in economics to attack the economic proposals of Dr. Bawumiah & the NPP, neither has Dr. Okooampa-Ahoofe the knowledge and credibility to pontificate on the economic crisis currently bedevilling our nation.
The insults cannot and should not be a substitute for a sound economic policy calculated to terminate the economic malaise we currently face.
The insults being thrown about here at the forum and elsewhere are nothing short of counterproductive. They are far from a recipe for solving the economic crisis.

Prof, I agree with you on Mr Kwakye-Ofosu's lack of understanding how governments and institutions work or how policy decisions are made and implemented if he assumed that because Dr Bawumia was not the Governor and a cabinet member he could not have had any impact on state policy. This also perhaps tells the quality of governance and decision making processes in Ghana today.
My experience from both Ghana and the UK is that, it's not only the technocrats within the civil service that formulate and implement state policies. When I worked in a public organisation here which was a "quango" (Non-departmental public organisation), ministers depended on our advice for national policies but one never heard ministers say that the policy initiative was from organization A or B.
What the deputy minister said tells me that either the government is not utilising the skills and experience of technocrats within the various ministries and public organisations. If that is so, I am not sure why, except of course, mistrust due to the politicisation of the civil service. I understand when NPP came to power they retired or sacked most the senior civil servants because they could not trust them. Though the late Attah-Mills kept them in office, I think there is still the mistrust that they are Kuffuor appointees and probably anti-NDC. If that is that case then it's very sad because civil servants should serve whatever government is in power and offer the best advice and support the government to deliver it programme effectively and efficiently.

Thank you Dr. Kwame Okoampa-Ahoofe because you have finally given credit to Ghana's technocrats unbeknown to you and your legion of unintelligent fans. By everyone’s account Ghana has not performed up to par relative to other non-aligned nations who were in the same status as Ghana in 1966. South Korea, Malaysia, India, and most South American nations, to name a few, were at the very developmental stage as Ghana in 1966. Since then, Ghana has been in the hands of technocrats under every regime and civilian government since.
You and others have not stopped your critique of governments, even if mainly along tribal perspective and or from political party playbook, because of the continued failures of these technocrats. What you as a professor of English and Creative Writing should understand by now is that students of a competent instructor/professor do flourish and succeed in life because they learned and understood their subject matter well beyond those classroom walls.
So if Dr. Bawumia had done those great wonders to Ghana economy from Bank of Ghana, it would have been because the foundations and or fundamentals of Ghana's economy would have been fixed. Guess what Dr. Kwame Okoamap-Ahoofe? It was a sham under Dr. Bauwimia and the NPP government of Kufour then as it is a sham under Atta Mills and John Mahama. The technocrats as you call them are nothing more than paper pushers who cannot apply their classroom learned lessons in the harsh realities of Ghana where the conducive businesses and economic activities are non-existent as in Europe, USA and or Canada where they earned or bought their degrees.
