I know it is difficult to appreciate the problem of " seek ye first the political kingdom" But it represents half a loaf instead of nothing . Ghana is still in the throes of poverty just because we fail toapply the right policy. Free enterprise with less than a dollar a day is an impossibility. We pointed this out ot S Africa a long time ago. Black S african will need to be helped both with skills and capital to just begin to compete with white conglomerates

Mandela saved a country from a blood bath. Forget your socialist ideals and accept the fact that it will take some time for economic equality to be achieved in SA, and blacks are better off now because of Mandela.

1. Mandala's passing a way was sad but shocking? Hardly. He had been unwell for a long time, kept alive by machinery and death at 95 shouldn't be shocking unless you expected him to live physically forever. No one does.

2. Yes, when western leaders start praising an African statesman, you must start getting suspicious.
3. I wonder if Malema was truly selflessly on the people's side. Looks like he was also on the way to becoming, eventually, one of the black millionaires.
4. Looks like the man was old and tired (in his 70s) and had lost some of the radicalism of his youthful days during the negotiations. I suspect he must have been aware of the fact that he compromised too much. But those who took over after him didn't help things either.
5. Ok, thanks for highlighting the other side of the South African dilemma. The passing away of Mandela is as good a time as any other to do this.

Dear friend,
Indeed Mandela did more than his best. That shall be made clearer in subsequent installments.
The point is to objectively assess the stregnths and weaknesses of his legacy. We must remember that Mandela was a human being, an exceptional one, of course.
Moreover, we must not clothe him in the regalia of our idea of cult of personality, but rather in the humility of charismatic or moral authority.
Of course, we do know Mandela, unlike Sese Seko, Idi Amin, Charles Taylor, etc., wouldn't want anyone worshipping him.
In that case, again, we need to undertake an equitable evaluation of his legacy. We need to do this for the sake of posterity.
Moreover, only saints and deities wouldn't want mortals to discuss their negative sides. Obviously Mandela did not see himself as either a saint or a deity.
This is what I have chosen to do in this present essay and those to follow. Stay tuned.
Thanks.

Resulting in South Africa becoming a hyper- capitalist economy. The ANC government protects international investments, a certain class of whites with large control of the economy, and has a class of well paid black apparatchik enforcing the system.
What of the the 34 Marikana miners who were
killed by South Africa's police? The miners simply wanted a pay increase from a British owned mining company.
Where is their voice, where is their justice and all other South Africans who have been left behind by the ANC project
