Bokor and Okoampa seem to have a lot of time on their side to be writing articles on every petty thing that happens in Ghana.
I wonder, don't they have lectures to prepare for, papers to grade, students to supervise, faculty meetings, academic conferences, their own research work and time for their families? They are always scouring the Ghanaian websites searching for something to write on. They rarely visit Ghana and are not aware of the social context of the news they comment on yet they must say something.
I really wonder about them. And I envy the amount of spare time they have to be writting silly articles on a daily basis...
Good for them.

K.K with people like you and your thinking how can Ghana move forward? You are very shallow minded and your comment is very childish if not stupid at the highest level. Are you saying that if these two individuals who lives in abroad are professors they should not be concerned about such issues. And you call this a petty issue when you have no clue of the impact or harm this nonsensical decision of the govt would cause in the near future.
The fact that some us live outside the country doesn't mean we are no longer Ghanaians and also don't care about what goes on in our beloved country. We still have families in Ghana who are still in school or will be going to some of these tertiary instituitions. Bear in mind that our families may be sick and visit the hospital.
K.K if you think the decision made by the gov't was right then please just write a REJOINDER to Bokor's article period but don't retort to pure stupidity and "Pull Him Down" attitude.

Bensah, you're saying something different. That is also why you resort to insults.
I did not say anywhere in my comment that people who live outside Ghana should not be concerned with happenings there or should not comment on them. I live outside Ghana and I comment on issues too.
My concern is how these two profs have time to comment on things happening in Ghana almost on a daily basis when they have their daily work to do where they are. How do they get all the time to do so? Bensah, you didn't address that issue. You only called me names.
Secondly I wondered how they can be commenting so often when they don't even live in Ghana to know the social context of the news they are commenting on. I can understand when they comment now and then, but to be outside Ghana and assume to know all the details of what is happening there on a daily basis for comment is strange. Any time I visit Ghana, I get a slightly different picture of what is happening there as we read about it on the news outside.
These are the issues you should address rather than insults which don't not explain your point.

This issue should not be looked at from a political view but from a nationalistic point of view. The trainee nurse has virtually no vacation. The vacation period is normally used for attachment to Hospitals where they spend almost the entire vacation. They often bath/clean patients particularly when they mess themselves with toilet or vomit. This direct contact with patients exposes them to all kinds of sickness.
During these periods they go on attachment, the cost of transportation to the hospital and back becomes a burden to the parents who are already paying the trainee school fees. The trainee nurse needs to eat at work to enable him/her work under such conditions. For Government to shift all these responsibilities to the parents is just not fair. PLEASE, PLEASE,PLEASE those who are considering these should stop it.It is bad, it is wicked, it is evil.
This is not politics at all, it is not NDC or NPP, but Ghanians. If we want the best from nurses in our hospitals,we should make their training a bit comfortable. If we frustrate them during their training, what do we expect from them when they complete and get to the wards? The politicians who are making this decision can afford to go to the private hospitals or fly out of the country for better treatment and services from nurses. But what about we the ordinary Ghanians who has no other place than to go and face these frustrated nurses at the public hospital.
Please your excellency Mr. President and Hon. Minister of Health come out clearly to say NO to this unpopular idea. God bless you ,God bless mother Ghana.

Jt, if the state have no money it not because of the trainee nurses allowances, but due to selfishness on the part of politicians , and i mean ALL politicians and not one political party. Mr. Jt, you will agree with me that this country has so much gold, fertile land to produce food for ourselves and export. As if that is not enough God has blessed us with oil, and we are only about 25million people. Why should the state not have money? if the politicians (I'm not blaming one particular party)will stop being greedy,if all of us will see Ghana as our own and contribute sincerely towards the building of our nation, giving allowances to trainee nurses, and teachers should not be a big deal at all. In any case the trainee nurses are not only schooling but they work in the wards on their practicals. They sometime collect toilet of patients who cannot walk, collect their vomit, bath them and so on.These poses the trainee nurses to infections that can even leads to death. So Mr.Jt when people work they should be paid, should they not? so if the state have no money it not because of the students allowances,it is the greed and selfishness of the politicians, and those who are entrusted with authority to direct affairs of the nation.

The sad thing about this new development is the fees of trainee nurses. Continuing students pay as much as 800gh cedis a semester. New students pay up to 2000gh cedis. As if that is not even enough, @ the end of every semester they go to various hospitals to work for at least one month, some even three months. Has anybody wondered where the parents get the money to support their children during this time? How about the nurses who have just completed national service, yet are still receiving student allowance? Once again, I ask, has anybody thought of how they pay for accommodation, transportation, electricity, water and food?
It is however saddening to see how the government would want to cancel trainee allowance in spite of these struggles.
The government should think carefully before making any decisions regarding this issue!

I always fell very sad when i hear such statements concerning student allowance. imagine a nursing student i will pay as much as 900-1000 cedis excluding feeding fee 'every semester', do a three weeks intra semester clinical experience 'boarding car with his own pocket money', working as a staff nurse going for morning, afternoon and night shift and sometimes working overtime. after the semester stress, a student will start an inter semester clinical experience the Monday after end of semester exam enjoying only the weekends rest.
Thats not all this student has to stay away from home throughout the vacation spending all the weeks in school, gallivanting with his own pocket money and even eating from outside for a continuous period of six-weeks spending only two weeks as a rest period to begin the next semester.
let do this little calculation within an accademic year, a student spend at least 18 weeks at the clinic working which is about 4 months of that of a staff nurse.
if say a staff nurse takes home 1000 cedis every month, by the end of this 18 weeks it will accumulate to 4000 cedis.
A student nurse will take home say 350 every month amounting to 4200 a year.
This same student will pay a fee of about 1000 cedis per semester amounting to 2000 cedis per academic year.
This student will spend not less than 600 cedis during this 18 weeks left alone extra cost of feeding and other expenses.
At the end of the year how much is this student taking? just about 1600 cedis a year.
A student taking 1600 per year for his good work done and that politician taking 4000 cedis a moth just for sitting at the parliament sleeping and comes home to ask a colleague what happened at the house, have a breakfast amount to 1.2 billion a day, uses the country's money to buy diapers for the baby, using our money to buy posh cars for their girlfriends, taking our money for honeymoon abroad, craving for 1 million dollars to leave politics withing a year, throwing insults on one another and refusing to do their work by even absenting themselves from parliament session, who among these two is causing financial loss to the nation?
God forgive you all for your greediness. AMEN
