This article should be the main news item. It points to the critical need to create an atmosphere which attracts citizens to be patriotic. All the "Think Tanks" in Ghana should be commenting on this article and galvanizing resources to do something about the "problem". Well written "Sir" Abugri.

We should blame the partisan nature of the NPP . Just imagine side lining Sgt Adjetey , Cpl Attipoe and Pte Awhaitey who died at the cross roads fighting for independence but having a matyr's day for 3 judges because they happen to be Akan . Then in sports why not honr people like Prof Azumah Nelson, Floyd Roberston , Mike Ahey, Alice anum, The flying Queen christine boateng, Rose hart , Eddie Blay etc who brought Ghana glory and the Quaye brothers and Jack sisters . This is serious and should be accross the board. We have francis Kwateng doing his best to educate us on our literary and scientific achievers but we are deaf to his type but would write lies to discredit others just to satisfy our desire to be crabs in a bucket. Why do we fear success of others?

I am of the view that people who burn their past and heritage need to cry that they do not have what they burn into ashes. It is a crime in Ghana when a person is a member of a traditional religious sect. We said that the white man and his religion are our own, then what do we have to worship and call heroes.

NDC/CPP/Kwesi Pratt/Kofi Wayo etc just dont want to hear anything apart from Nkrumah. All they want and all they like to see is Nkruma, Nkruma Nkrumah Mkruma. NDC think any variation will spillover to JB Danquah, Busia, Obetsebi , Paa grant etc so Ghana seems to be short of heroes. Ghana has heroes. NDC doings are always negative. They have stagnated Ghana. I will come back to the subject

This article itself seem to refute the proposition that Ghana has had no 'heroes'. I remember Baba Yara. He dies in an automobile accident. I also remember Aggrey Fynn and Gyamfi and the rest. I even remember Sgt Adjetey though he had died before I was born. Now, Sgt Adjetey was a true hero - much celebrated as a hero of the stuggle for independence. There were others - such as Nii Kwabena Bobbey (Boycotthene). In the end history will show that 'heroes' emerge in spite of political vituperations and the PHD attitude of current commentators. I remind you that if you study American history, Abraham Lincoln was one very despised American President during his lifetime. Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. The Democrats in America hated him not only because he was a Republican, but they hated him for emancipating "negroes". It is very well documented that members of the Democratic Party in the north (in other words, the federal areas of north America) formed a group called "The Copperheads" who called openly for the assassination of the Republican Abraham Lincoln. Both the Democrats and even some members of Abraham Lincoln's own political party and government thought Mr. Lincoln was a very dumb person. Yet some one hundred and fifty of so years later, Abraham Lincoln is the most revered American President on a par with a George Washington. The same process will apply to the heroes of Ghana. Envy and jealousy, which abounds, will be of little consideration when the designation is conferred by the imperatives of history. We have heroes in Ghana. They are human beings, and therefore imperfect but then who among us is?
