You said there were "quite a few" meaning the number is not insignificant or, plainly, "many".
This is something given the fact that we've not had many presidents in our 56 years mainly due to coups and one person staying too long.
So, by "Presidency" I take it you mean head of state. We've had some 11 so far. Of these 7 called themselves "President" but the others too were doing pretty much the same job. Two, Nkrumah and Rawlings, stayed there for a total of 28 years - half our time of independence.
Who, can we say were the ones not of requisite merit?
My verdict: All of them except Kwame Nkrumah and, perhaps, perhaps, Busia. All the rest did not have any merit. Kufuor? No!!! Rawlings? Nein! Limman? Non non non...
Dear reader, what is your verdict?

this matter of hammah is the most serious of all as it proves most importantly that the verdict was tampered with. her greed is of no consequence as it isnt impossible to make a million if after 8 years on invests her earnings into real estate development for example which actually proves her estimate to be right . what is damning here is the fact that pepeni's pillow talk is leading the country into a constitutional crisis if he doesn't resign or is impeached with a immediate effect. by sacking her admits to her letting the cat out of the bag that he bribed the judges and is therefor an illegitimate president with an illegitimate govt. we consider any decision from today onwards nun and void and not binding . any loan or monies spent we shall not honor , also to the weak npp we say to you also , participating in this sweep under the carpet and lets get back to business as usual is more than just shameful. the institutions of state such as the army , police bni , judicial should all be telling us they are conducting investigations and are ready to arrest pepeni and the culprits immediately as the true rule of law must be upheld . pepeni start packing .as was Mary Magdalena instrumental so is Victoria mahama we love you and shall even marry your harlot ashawo ass as you have been unwittingly an instrument of God in once again exposing these pepeni and ayigbe criminals . long live the republic of Akan

Watergate was being investigated and law enforcement had warrants to tap various connected conversations, that's different from an unscrupulous and ungrateful driver/cousin taping a private, gossipy girl talk and a whole country going berserk over it.
This shows the level of absurdity Ghana has sunk into. Who are the president's advisers? Arthur K nailed it right on the head, Ms Hammah is definitely not ministerial material, therefore her appointment, like so many others by this president were ridiculous to start with, not withstanding, her firing based on this illegally obtained recording is even more preposterous.
The entire country has lost its sense of dignity, sensibility and decency, this country has become more bizarre than a really horrible Nollywood flick. Illegally recording of another person's conversation is a felony in the US.
Here we are; living in a country where nonsensical radio talk is taken more seriously than a parliamentary act, albeit majority of our parliamentarians are clueless anyway.

I commented 3 days ago that Victoria Hammah's driver should be re-arrested since he has confirmed himself that he was promised $2000 and a US visa to record her. This in itself, is a criminal offence since his aim of doing it was to gain financially. This act alone overides any genuine intention of protecting the public interest. I also believe there are no lawyers in Ghana. If there are, i'm afraid they not helping the nation but doing serious damage to it. Victoria Hammah's case is like an innocent person being shouted at like 'thief, thief' and the next anybody could realised she was linched. At any rate, the Security Services could have asked for the tape/s and undertake to investigate. Now, we also heard the driving saying part of the recording has been doctored. And how can he know part of the tape was doctored when he had earlier denied any knowledge of recording Victoria Hammah. Thank you.

Fact of the matter is Ms.Hammer, however naïve and inept, did not break any law.She did not steal $1million as she foolishly said on the tape.We have people who already have stolen hundreds of millions of dollars and deposited them in foreign banks - with no fear of being prosecuted(The Kufuor brothers,EO Group,Mpiani, Wereko-Brobbey,Bartels,Sekyi-Huges,Rawlings and wife, and some folks in the NPP government).Mahama should have given a chance to explain herself - and if warranted, fire her.
Those blaming Mahama for giving the young ones ministerial posts are the the backward-thinking conservatives - like the folks in the colonial days. Young folks bring energy, new ideas and different perspectives - to complement the wisdom and experience of old heads. For example, record shows that Kufuor was in his early 30s when Busia made him a deputy minister.
Yours truly begs to differ with those who,in the heat of Vickileaks, have jumped to defend Lawrence Quayeson - that scum of the earth and a Judas. What he did was to better himself(a promise of $2,000 and a visa to the U.S)and that has nothing to do with protecting Ghana from being milked $1million.
In fact, that SOB broke the law and has to be prosecuted. To put him on a pedestal as a whistleblower is asinine and naïve.Civilized societies don't allow citizens to surreptitiously tape each other for nefarious purposes.

Nowhere on the "Vickileaks" tape did Victoria Hammah state that she wanted to make a million dollars, as she has been widely misrepresented in the media! Victoria simply said, and in reference to Deputy Minister Rachel's conflict with her superior, Minister Oye Lithur, that a politician shouldn't take on political giants within a ruling party when he / she doesn't have even a million in your bank account. End of story. Stop crucifying Victoria every second of the day. Haba!
