Yao, I appreciate your attempt to highlight some shortcomings in Ghana's foreign policy strategy and its execution. Yet your piece is factually analytically flawed in many aspects.
Firstly, there are some high calibre diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but their informed views and strategies from their duty stations are largely ignored back, mainly due to political expediency.
Also, when nepotism takes over a society, on the scale that is now seen in Ghana, competence becomes subsumed to political patronage. Then square pegs in round holes cannot deliver where the brightest and the best should be been recruited into government service to discharge functions efficently and effectively. Things therefore become reduced to mere survival by seeking to please the whims of political bosses not the national interest.
There's lot more to say, but maul over this.

Firstly, there are some high calibre diplomats at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs but their informed views and strategies from their duty stations are largely ignored back home, mainly due to political expediency of policy makers (and sometimes sheer ignorance or non-chalance).
Also, when nepotism takes over a society, on the scale that is now seen in Ghana, competence becomes subsumed to political patronage. This results in a situation where square pegs are placed in round holes and (not surprisingly) people who cannot deliver where the brightest and the best should be been recruited into government service to discharge functions efficently and effectively. Service delivery, therefore, becomes reduced to mere survival by seeking to please the whims of political bosses and not upholding the national interest.
There's a lot more to say, but maul over this.
