In a crowded city at a busy bus stop, a beautiful young woman who was waiting for a bus in Legon was wearing a tight mini skirt. As the bus stopped and it was her turn to get on, she became aware that her skirt was too tight to allow her leg to come up to the height of the first step of the bus. Slightly embarrassed and with a quick smile to the bus driver, she reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little, thinking that this would give her enough slack to raise her leg. Again, she tried to make the step only to discover she still couldn't. So, a little more embarrassed, she once again reached behind her to unzip her skirt a little more, and for the second time attempted the step, and, once again, much to her dismay, she could not raise her leg. With a little smile to the driver, she again reached behind a third time to unzip a little more and again was unable to make the step. About this time, a large Ghanaian who was standing behind her picked her up easily by the waist and placed her gently on the step of the bus. She went ballistic and turned to the would be Samaritan and yelled, "How dare you touch my body! I don't even know who you are!" The Ghanaian smiled and drawled, "Well, ma'am, normally I would agree with you, but after you unzipped my fly three times, I kinda figured we was friends!"

Let me put things bluntly, in America, over half of female college students work as 1) waitresses just to get themselves through college 2) strippers 3) con their way through college. Incidentally these girls are very lucky, at worst they have options. Now let us not forget that a large number of students get loans or assistance from their parents and grandparents.
In Ghana we do not have such lucky young ladies struggling through college. Whenever they need a job or some temporary assistance, we the Ghanaian Male beasts, take advantage of them. We demand sex before offering them a job or financial assistance. As life goes on, perhaps they have gotten smarter than us men, and figured out that getting paid for sex to get your ass through college is not such a bad thing. They are not "prostitutes", simply using the power of their vagina. A woman's greatest weapon against man. Perhaps, there are women in Banks, Ministries, Churches and other institutions who augment their meager incomes in the same manner Legon girls finance their college education. Just leave them alone and get on with your miserable lives!!!

You want everything to be about you. The when you turn around to make the corrections, you remain as arrogant and insidious as those British. Remember one thing Mr. Amas, Ama is as foreign to a Hausa, Ewe or Ga as Mary, Ruth and Martha are. So if you want to be recognized, learn to recognize other people, else the vicious circle will forever continue. For the record, Mary, Ruth and Martha are as Ghanaian as Akweleh, Naa Shika, Eyoname, Akosua or Fatima. You can sweat it all you want for the rest of your freaking traditionalists life, but Ghanaians will always give their sons and daughters English first names. It is part of our culture and all you villagers can never change it. Also recognize that Ghana is no more going to so homogenous, people are migrating from all over the world taking up residency and citizenship, some Ghanaians were born in foreign lands of mixed parenthood, and you can never be more Ghanaian than they would like to be. She believes Elorm and Eyonam and such like are Togolese and Fatima and Halima and Khadija don't belong in Ghana. It must be Ama or Serwaa, Akua or Araba. It was the best in the country who could go there. It has been the cream puff of Ghanaian aristocracy. The best boys and girls with the best scores from the O and A levels made their their way there. In other words, it was no place for fools and the academic disenfranchised.
They say, "When you chase the animal to no avail, you say he stinks". Whoever made his or her way to Legon could laugh well in the future.
Thank God, that out of Legon there are still some great and edible apples. Those girls have been good and they still are.
All over the world, we have many Legon girls in academia, science and technology research centers, medicine, law etc. I salute my girls.
