Dr, this really shows how much you value education. Well done for this piece. As at now the little allowance to teacher trainees are also being scrapped. Hit that one too.

Good article and I'm surprised that those who always jump on Mr. Okoampa-Ahoofe to chew him are not commenting because he wrote something excellent which has nothing to do with NDC or NPP.

Ahoofe,
For that very rare occasion, let me say 'wanohwam'. But maybe all of us are missing one very important point in this national issue that we may very well have to debate for a while yet and that is...why is that we Ghanaians always expect the Government to cough out every pesewa for every national need that impacts our development? One can understand the Government footing the bill for books for research but research grants? Good heavens... where are our Opoku Transports when we needed them? And may God bless his soul!
It is a well known fact that the bulk of university research grants in the western world are provided by the private sector: rich individuals, businesses and corporations...knowing very well that to whom God giveth much, much is expected in terms of giving back to society, and also for another not so obvious reason: the more these individuals and institutions contribute to education, the more they would gain in terms of a better pool of educated people they could draw from down the road to make their businesses, and in the grand scheme of things Ghana, better. So let our rich and famous step up to the plate and make a difference.
