I am shocked and disturbed by this article which casts aspersions on Mr. Annan's character and track record. To suggest that Annan is a fake African and "lucky" to have been appointed SG of the UN is a racist and condescending comment that seems to suggest that no African has the ability to ascend to the post of UN SG. As an African, I am proud of Mr. Annan's achievements and glad that he still continues to work for Africans through various initiatives that he has started. He has demonstrated that he cares deeply for Africa's development and anyone who thinks otherwise is not being genuine. I salute Mr. Annan for all his tireless efforts.

I have read with shock the article which claims that Annan is fronting for Monsanto. Anyone who has been following his speeches over the past few years will know that this is not true. As an academic involved in agriculture, I know that he advocates for upscaling of conventional breeding approaches and NOT the use of GMOs. These two are very different and the authors should get their facts right. Kofi Annan does not advocate for the use of GMOs!
