Samuel,
This is a good piece. All of us who feel bad about the woeful and unproductive dissipation of our national resources should get involved. If we do not wish to be involved as elected officials, then we should begin to be interested in who is elected to rule our country.
If indeed the last NDC government increased Ghana's external debt by 82% with nothing to show for that much, then it is an inditement on all right thinking Ghanaians that the same incompetent people should be returned to power in 2012!
In most European countries and even developing countries like Sigapore, South Korea, Malaysia among others, when Parliiament votes and approves a development plan or project, every governmant is bound by it. A new incoming government cannot simply abandon the plan and embark on new ones, usually as a means of siphoning loans into private pockets. What was the sense in changing the ongoing schedule for the completion of the gas power plant, for instance? If it had been carried through as planned, and approved by Parliament, the poor Ghanaian taxpayer would not have been subjected to "DUM so dum so!"

Okofo Dartey, J.J. Rawlings hijacked the country in the name of his revolution, then ruled as a military strongman . Only a few profit minded people will invest in a military ruled country. He changed his clothes and said hw was runnung as a civilian and ruled for another 8yrs, all elections cooked and stolen by this same Afari Gyan. What you have to remember is that he was still perceived as a military man under the guise of a civilian. The world is not stupid. And I tell you, military regimes do not attain any proggres in the the country for the reason that they are conscious of the violent overthrow of the govt. and know that they could be overthrown too. Therefore they waste the resources of the country protecting themselves. LOOk ot how Rawlings buillt the security forces in Ghana. It was populated with his people so much so that the security forces in Ghana has become a politacal wing of the NDC. So the anemic economic development in Ghana is rooted un all those wasted years that Rawlings lorded it over Ghanains . The pratice of ignorance is now on geometric progression as exhibited by ignorant NDC. See how they run the country down.

"Fifty six years of nationhood appear to be a waste of time and resources. If Ghana were to be a civil servant, it should be gracefully preparing to retire". I love the way you've putting it
