Adofo, the average black man is an idiot with a very low IQ irrespective of his education. We also need to remember that there is a big difference between education and intelligence. I have always said it doesn't take a lot to analyze why Africa is so messy and in such a chaotic situation irrespective of all its resources.
Its all because of the type people that inhabit the place. Human ingenuity is what develops and changes a society not natural resources.
Plain and simple.
Check out the video of Pastor David Manning of Harlem NY on You tube about the "issues with the black Race". He says it plain and simple.
Have a nice day

Nothing will change in Africa until we start calling a spade a spade and pointing out wrongs irrespective of who the victims or victors are. Blind political and tribal justifications for the actions of people will only make the place more messy than it is now.
We need to start been fair and logical in our analysis irrespective of tribal and political leanings, after all we are trying to build a united nation called Ghana not a tribal nation.
Thank you

What we Black people are going through now is referred to as symptoms of the "Post slavery Trauma". We were so viciously oppressed for centuries that we have been robbed of our cognitive ability to use our brains effectively. Today as we speak, we are still being oppressed by the lethal opium of imperialist education, much to our discredit and disadvantage.
This probably explains the reasons why the more educated an African is, the more stupid he/she appears to be. Wereko Brobbey is just one such example amongst many others like JB Danquah, Busia etc. They are all "very well educated" but they are all equally very very daft and obtuse people who could not figure out what was happening around them at any given time.
For a greater appreciation of the subject, I will expatiate further on it on Ghanaweb in due course

I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT SOME OF TH IDIOTIC ACTIONS BY WHICH SOME PhD holders carry themselves about. I will be careful to refer to them as fools anyway. One's academic progress does not have direct relation to the exhibition of morals or being cultured in dealing with the illiterates. The word illiterates must be defined carefully in this context anyway. Please let us not rant and rave at the ignorance of the learned. its just the human thing. No one knows it all. The deeper you study the shallow you get. reading a little more books than your neighbour does not make you wiser or highly reputed to look down on others. To correct you PhD is nothing. Its just the beginning of the emptiness of knowledge and I don't know why you think anyone with a PhD must exhibit his/her inventions or be a mellow fellow and not say their minds or asked to be acknowledged.
What will you say about the so called celebrities with no academic record and making so much noise in the country. wearing just anything or nothing at all. propagating drugs and promiscuity yet we celebrate them because they have sang a song, played football or even read the news or host radio shows. Do you celebrate them and lambast the many years of study to have a PhD. Let us love those who hold up Ghana so high and support them

I remember a saying from Northern Ghana that goes like this " a blind man says that he does not want eyes because are are watery and smelly" .
I am sure Mr. Adofo will lurch unto an opportunity to get a PhD if you could but because you for one reason or another he does not have it then "Ghanaian PhD Holders Worth Their Salt".
You sold yourself out with the statement"I am sorry that Wereko Brobbey has opened the Pandora box to permit me unleash my venom on the Ghanaian PhD holders."
No Pandora Box was open it was your deep ENVY for PhD holder maybe due to an inferiority complex that was opened.
Let me offer to educate you for free, to obtain a PhD your thesis is suppose to make significant contribution to knowledge. By dint of this fact EVERY PhD holder had invented some knowledge.
" When you compare them to our White contemporaries, the Ghanaian PhD holders are completely non-starters." REALLY!!!
I dont blame you you still have the slave mentality everything White is better I guess? Avail yourself to the song of Bob Marley that talks about "Mental Slavery". Our beloved Kwame Nkrumah will be turning in his grave on this comment.
The universal standard of rating PhD holders is by number of publications in journals with high "Impact Factor" (you can google Impact Factor if you want). Based on the limitations that scholars in Africa face I will not fault them for fewer publications that surely does not make them inferior.
Ghanaian PhD in the Diaspora however on the other hand have made tremendous strides and matched their white counterparts boot-for-boot.
No one says that you necessarily need a PhD to advance the course of mankind but having one greatly improves your chances.
" The young White men that came up with Google engine, Facebook, Twitter etc. and Bill Gates, the world’s richest man never had PhD degrees but look how they have, and are transforming the world.?" The fact that you can count these with your fingers says a lot. If i start to mentioning PhD holder with similar achievements we will be here till "thy kingdom come"
We should be encouraging our fellow Ghanaian to seek knowledge (and yes PhDs). Statements like "Ghanaians had better cease kowtowing to these educated illiterates with raised shoulders sauntering in the streets of Ghana lording it over them. I personally do not have an iota of respect for most Ghanaian PhD holders for being useless as most of them are" are not helpful.
You are entitled to your Opinion but not to you own facts, if Dr Wereko Brobbey obtained his PhD at 25 then that was impressive. Call it bragging or anything you want He has every right to flaunt that achievement because Guess what VERY FEW OF YOUR ESTEEMED WHITE FOLKS OBTAIN THEIR PhD at 25.
Dr Wereko Brobbey as you enumerated above might have failed in various assignment that he has undertaken but that in no way give you the right insinuate that Ghanaian PhD Holders are not Worth Their Salt.
PS.
For lack of time and the fact that I typed this from my IPhone mid-flight, please excuse the obvious grammatical errors. I hope I have put my points across though.

You have not been making sense because you do not put much effort in your thought processes before writing your articles.
You have cited Bill Gates,Mark Zuckerberg etal as inventors. Have you asked yourself what degrees their lecturers held. None of the listed personalities stayed at home to get the inspiration for such inventions without a form of University Education.

'A foolish and unintelligent statement by a 'peanut brain' Adofo. A PhD holders may be expected to behave in certain ways because of their higher education but they are humans after all. They are not any different from the pastor, politician, the messenger, traditional leader, kaya yei, journalist and a doctor etc. We need people with intellectual capacity to initiate ideas, formulate theories through researches and teaching for the technicians to transform the knowledge into reality or practical means and this is one of the many was every nation benefits from highly educated people. The problem for Ghana and perhaps in Africa is the false notion that a highly educated person knows every thing and all!!!!. People are basically educated in their fields of interest and specialist areas. They are not educated in all faculties of the academia. But it does not mean that they have no knowledge or life experiences in other subjects. So a lawyer, a doctor, pastor, a messenger, a nurse, the Makola trader and kayayo etc have every right to comment on politics, environment, religion, nutrition, health, agriculture, law, constitution and education etc from their perspectives though they are not experts. Yes Mr adofo, there is a big place for the PhD holder in every society and in Ghana in particular. Why can you not put forward your alternative views from the PhD holder so that the society would be able to choose the better views for the community. Please stop the empty talk and the political sycophancy. I trust you are not envious.

Massa Ofori-Mensah; there is no need for you to spill the toxic flatulence of insults and call people names in the matter of Mr. Adofo's opinions t; I agree with Mr Adofo points ;that most PHD holders are to me acadamic fraudesters and useless in Ghana besides I do not think you have meet some of the yet ; because if you have you are likely to change you opinion s about them- pronto ;this has nothing to do with politics;; as you may be aware ; we have these PHD holders at the the Economic Planning department ; who have no clue as to what to do about the current economic mess ;go the Highways Authorithy and see the number of people with these so called Phds in engineering feeding on the state like leeches because they have wasted their their to study something that nobody needs but expects to be paid for it ; go KNUST; the place is full of fraudulent PHd enineering professors who can invent anything ; but expects the poor farmers who have no Phd to go and farm and the money raised through exports to pay their salaries; what you should understand is that the points raised by Adofo are legitimate ; because you see there are certain individuals in Ghana after atteding the attndeding Legon or other Universities make it a point to join the industry of PHD collectors; in simple words they spend their whole life studying to get a PHd ; with the legitimate idea that; it will improve their earning power ; Well ;et me tell you somthing Mr. Mensah ; Ghana does need individuals whose sole aim is the mere acquisition of paper quaifications axquisition of paper qualifications to fool Ghanaians and Wereko Brobbey is a typical example ; these Phd paper holders are USELESS.

The following are the reasons why PhD holders in Ghana are useless.
1) Majority of PhD holders in Ghana are scholars who cannot even write books.
2)They are bullies who lack leadership skills. The few ones tested all failed. Eg; Dr Busia, Dr Hilla Limann and Prof Atta Mills.
3) They cannot survive without government job, contract or bungalows.
4) They don't inspire hope that is why after sending their children to prestigious institutions like Achimota and Legon their grown-up children are still staying with their parents on the various campuses. Just go to UG and you will more of such.
5) Majority of them cannot survive outside the classroom that is why after 85years some of them are still teaching instead of touring he world and writing books.
This is how far our useless university education has brought us.

If you think the ability to speak and write properly isn't an important wealth-creating skill go and ask Obama and the CEOs of Fortune-500 companies, who have made it mainly by their abilities to speak, write and inspire people with their words. I doubt that they would have gotten where they are now if they were using phrases like "Do Ghanaian Phd holders worth their salt..."?
I work in a bulge-bracket investment bank and I know people who have risen quickly just because of their giftedness in the use of words while geniuses without this skill are trampled on.
That's the problem with Ghanaians, we really don't know what skills sell in the global market and give you a competitive edge in this dog-eat-dog world. No wonder are leaders can't negotiate any advantageous deals for us - they just go there and wear foolish Cheshire cat grins, saturate their speeches with pleases, thank yous and sorrys and think they will not be screwed over.

The English language has developed over so many years and so I don't understand why we should strain our spleen on a foreign language. I think this is a Ghanaian attitude which has its root in the infamous "Leadership by Trait" instead of the now civilized "Leadership by Making". It is this nonsense called leadership by trait that makes the Ghana Police Service always recruit people with nice hand writing rather than those who have passion for the job. The same thing applies to the GES and so we can now see where our under-development is coming from.

It is very funny to hear the party zealot and tribally emaciated Rockson Adofo admits that the all too familial hoopla about an intellectual NPP party is not what they're cracked up to be after all.
The more appropriate question about the intellectual level of Ghana's educated class is why they have failed to show any lasting, effective and meaningful work products in Ghana. The record of Ghana, evaluated through our system of governance and economic activities, has always been in the hands of Ghana's mostly educated class. Ghana is still a beggar country despite having been ruled by the so-called wonderful Busia, Kufour and others touting their wonderful credentials. The truth is there are no above average intellectuals in Ghana or even Ghanaians in the Diaspora. Most in the Diaspora are not originators of ideas, they work within structured companies, perform designed tasks by their employers and get their monthly salaries and or biweekly wages. The educated elite in Ghana routinely look for ways to steal from a system they designed and implemented knowing the flaws in a system they've created. In the end the whole nation and its inhabitants suffer while the educated thieves take any revenues Ghana’s poorly managed system is capable of generating.

Hei Rock, your article seem to be a coincidence of an experience that came my way in the early 80's when I was a bank clerk at then Standard Chartered Bank at UST Branch. A Professor came in to cash his check and as usual presented the check to the Cashier. After the check had been processed and given to the Cashier to pay the Professor, the Cashier called "Dr ....... (name withheld) for about 2 to 4 times and finally this Dr came forward and mentioned to us that he was Dr. Dr........ in two field of studies and not only a Doctor and as such need to be addressed by his two acquired titles.
In those days how do we challenge this individual who have just returned from Obroni's land with his acquired titles and teaching at UST? Like I always say in every field of study, there is a PHD holder in Ghana but the question is what have they done for the nation? Absolutely nothing. The very best they are known for is using their titles to loot mother Ghana. E&OE.

Until Dr. Wereko-Brobby went on air recently, no one could tell the substance he was made of, though many have long suspected that he is inherently paranoid suffering from inexplicable and uncontrollable air of pomposity and delusional self-agrandisement. Like every human, this is his but, and one would have expected him to gradually shirk it as he climbed the academic and age ladders but it was not to be. He saw education as the end in itself. In some ways, for Dr Wereko-Brobby and people like him, wisdom, achievements, helping to bring about reformations in communities/society are not necessarily part of their agenda. They seek gainful employments, take top positions or join parties mostly, if not simply, for the sole aim of living better. No wonder Dr. Wereko-Brobby would boast of 3 square meals in comparison with others who cannot afford. We expected Dr Wereko-Brobby to show empathy for those who cannot afford even 2 square meals a day due to no fault of theirs, and give an instance where he helped one or two people through education or small financing to also make it in life.
Dr Wereko Brobby and the likes of him do not bear the blame fully. Unlike the tried and tested employment systems in other countries that continue to contribute to their development, the Ghanaian employment system is mostly concerned with one's academic qualifications. It does not actively consider who one is, the extracurricular activities, and to what extent his/her employment would impact on communities. Therefore, people who may be innately egocentric, egoistic or selfish and self-centered do not necessarily see the need to reform through academic education or otherwise.
Academicians in other countries prove their degrees, or knowledge by what they can contribute to society - anthropological research on specific trends in some tribes, their merits and demerits with specific references to how to improve them; artificial intelligence, super computing, Facebook, cars and what have you.
On the contrary, most of the bunches of professors that Ghana produces are zeros in their fields. Their major achievements are the mere fact that they hold Doctorate degrees or are PhD holders. In fact they have no achievements to speak about, and no major record changes that have taken place because of their work. To overcome the psychological trauma, they go about bragging and singing anywhere and any time they get the least opportunity: "I am a PhD holder, I am a PhD holder...".
At the same time, we have several uneducated or college level technicians and other field workers who are heroes in their profession. Example: take your car to the fitting mechanic who might not have had academic education and he can prognose the fault by listening to the engine sound. They can tell you some parts which can fit better for other cars.
As the saying goes, in the land of the blind, a one-eyed man is king.
Unless we reform our employment system, we would continue to have people likes of Dr. Wereko-Brobby, who will try to put himself above all others for the simple reason that he is a PhD holder.

Our PhD holders are scholars who cannot even write books.
Well, at least they're able to string words together to form conjugated sentences; that must be worth something. Isn't it ironic that you mock them but can't even perform this basic writing feat?
That's all that counts for the Ghanaman. Big English and no brains is considered genius. Moron country indeed!
If you think the ability to speak and write properly isn't an important wealth-creating skill go and ask Obama and the CEOs of Fortune-500 companies, who have made it mainly by their abilities to speak, write and inspire peop ...

The English language has developed over so many years and so I don't understand why we should strain our spleen on a foreign language. I think this is a Ghanaian attitude which has its root in the infamous "Leadership by Trai ...

Ghanaian intellectuals and Ph D holders are the worst kind of educated people in the world. the most useless creatures on earth.
It is very funny to hear the party zealot and tribally emaciated Rockson Adofo admits that the all too familial hoopla about an intellectual NPP party is not what they're cracked up to be after all.
The more appropriate ques ...

I am told the holy book says the wise one do not speak at the wrong time. Dr.Wireko Brobe (phd) should put his phd aside and go and study the holy book so that he will know when to talk, how to talk and where to talk so that ...

The Ph.D is an academic award (a published dissertation signed by the dean of the school) and it has nothing to do with leadership style, common sense, or social life. Sometimes, the business dictates on how you should lead ...

Adofo, I never thought you could stoop so low, in fact below the level of a he-goat, to talk about Phd holder in Ghana. You infusions demonstrate your unfortunate lack of understanding of education. Know that Phd doesnot inve ...

The question is: 'ARE' Ghanaian PhD Holders Worth Their Salt? and NOT "DO Ghanaian PhD Holders Worth Their Salt?" If you can't get such a simple question right, spend sometime on your English rather than on Politics.

I guess the medical professor referred to in the article is Prof Dr Dr Brobbey of KNUST. He is the only known medical doctor from Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to have gone by that title. I don't know whether he is related t ...

There was a Dr, Dr, B.Y.A. Andoh. He was the head of the Department of Physiology at the Ghana Medical School at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in the 1970s.
Point of correction. Professor Frimpong Boateng is not a PhD holder. Check your facts well.
I think the comments both for/against Adofo has vindicated him. Instead of critiquing his opinion with intellectual debate, just like our lecturers have always done, we are finding fault with his grammar, lets Heal our Land
Mr Rockson has raised crucial issue. I wish to connect with this man.
Hei Rock, your article seem to be a coincidence of an experience that came my way in the early 80's when I was a bank clerk at then Standard Chartered Bank at UST Branch. A Professor came in to cash his check and as usual pr ...

It seems to me you're more of a fool than Wereko Brobbey. Get a life and watch your language.
Strange! Strange eh? Hard to believe that in this age of civility, people like you would analyse situations with your brains turned upside down! Lift up your head and reason correctly.
Until Dr. Wereko-Brobby went on air recently, no one could tell the substance he was made of, though many have long suspected that he is inherently paranoid suffering from inexplicable and uncontrollable air of pomposity and ...
