The Germans still have WW II experiences fresh in their memories. They also have the Green Party that strongly oppose anything about nuclear energy. This party only constitute 5% of German voters but are so strong that they can easily cause the change of government if a government policy does not favour their orientation. Germany can boast of some the best nuclear experts in the world but because of the greens they can't practice in their own country even though Germany import nuclear power from France. In the USA, coal power employs millions of American voters and so any attempt to go nuclear would cause millions of people to lose their jobs and this will have a lot of consequences on American election outcome. I have no problem with anybody opposing nuclear power but I think the whole thing should not just be reduced to a mere academic exercise. We can take a cue from the Green Party who did not just oppose nuclear energy but went ahead to support the development of alternative power source- Solar Technology, and today Germany is leading in solar technology. If we don't need nuclear power then let us also form our own Green Party.

I have said many times that GAEC lands should be used for farming. What have those so-called scientists done for Ghana? I visited a friend and he was ignorantly bragging about a "toy reactor" they have there and a department called GHARR-1. They can't even generate their own power. Ghana CAN NOT go nuclear because the country is NOT ready for it.

I strongle believe its about time we discuss other matters, than wasting all our might on this matter. there are so many things to talk about, that would make our nation travel. Mr editor please stop posting this debate from now.
Lets talk abour where this country is going and how to get there, for we have been wandering for so long on this bumpy road. Do not let us think our Legislatures are much prepared to get us afar, lets think of the way and manner to get the rightful LAW MAKING BODY, who could implement wise desissions and keep us alive.
How can a country like Ghana Encourage Chinees cheap products, how do we stop this illagalities and other things

Apparently an MOU has actually been signed with the Russians on this matter, without it ever been debated anywhere. In the UK, for instance, the site of such an important and potentially risky enterprise will first be debated with the local residents, followed by a national consultation exercise and debates.
Nothing of the sort has been done. It is being treated as if it ia an ordinary chocolate or fizzy drink factory. I am not too sure that if those who know about the potential dangers and cost implications of building a nuclear power station do not speak up the ordinary long-suffering Ghanaian taxpayer will be "sensible and knowledgeable about it."

Many thanks to the author for his precious analysis. It is indeed rich in every aspect. It is now up to the politicians in power and those to come to be serious and do real nation-building instead of crying for mercedez-benzes and mansions. The greedy monsters should embark on these projects that will give work to Ghanaians and for that matter help them to create wealth. Actually, most Ghanaians are now living a dog and donkey life. Why can't Ghana have a second international airport? It will give job to the people. Lastly, Ghanaians should asbtain from shouting halleluya to Présidents who don't give them job and whose policies do not give them any hope. I personaly hate the honourables! They don't have any vision for the country except trading accusation among themselves.
