Two men walk into a bar in the Kotokoraba Market in Cape Coast, one wearing a cowboy hat and the other wearing a Yankees cap. The guy in the Yankees cap approaches the bartender and make a bet: "I'll bet you $1,000 that I can put a shot glass at one end of your bar and piss into it from the other end of the bar without spilling a drop."
The bartender laughs and says, "You're crazy, but you're on."
The man positions a shot glass on one end, walks to the other end and unzips his fly. He then pisses everywhere -- all over the walls, over the bar top, all over the bottles of booze, and all over the bartender. The bartender roars with laughter and tells the man to pay up.
The guy in the Yankees cap pays up, laughing and smiling, too.

though i share some of your sentiments, i also believe those from the central region are their own worst enemies.
at least a part of history has it that once upon a time when a ship load of iron rods or items for development were brought to the central region, the people opted for sardines instead. forgive me for my warped history though. having traveled to cape coast a couple of times myself, i find it quite intriguing that cost of living in this "seemingly poor region" is so comparatively high i was utterly surprise. infact it is the only coastal region where fish is more expensive than the hinterland. why and how do you expect to develop and attract investors when your own attitude points to the opposite. remember former president rawlings had to come down hard on people of the central region when he had to descend into the gutters to clean.
the truth is that, emotions and tantrums may not yield any positive benefits. i agree that there should be equity especially in the distribution of the national cake. when people sometimes make reference to places like the ashanti region and others, i wish they also acknowledge the immense contributions of the indigenes and individuals who reside in these regions. as you call on government to play its role, please i equally advise that the local people must also do their bit to make their regions attractive enough to lure investors to participate in their local economies.

Since before independence we have been plagued by all sorts of ruthless , vicious and willfully authoritative govts that all have one thing in common , denying the right of free speech and proper analysis of the motives and agendas they seek to keep hidden . Most of these govts were led by people who didnt belong to the majority but rather minority tribes and very marginal political clans . starting with nkrumah who is praised to high heaven but this same oligarchy , he st in motion a climate of fierce political antagonism whereby moderate minds of a liberal persuasion had no business in participating as only the radicals could stand the heat .The MOTIVE , be able to spend without consensus or agreement the wealth of the nation ie in today's jargon chop Ghana money some . This style and system of government was perfected by kwasea rawlings and today we have pepeni whose agenda is finalse the colonization of the majority , the Akans with the assistance of the homicidal ayigbe and the idiot pepefuo . they now use the institution called the supreme court to gag all free thinking individuals so the climate is set to enslave and now steal the oil and gas. they tell us nkrumah was so good so i say to them we hope ghana breaks up and their first presidents are just like him. when we secede we give them all the gold reserves in Switzerland and pay them another 20 billion on top so these ewes and pepefuo are rich and let their nkrumah come and spend that money in 2 years and leave them in debt for 2000 years , that is our revenge . hopefully their first nkrumah presidents are just as manipulative and propagandists so a greater part of that money is used to secure the unity of the universe as thats a very good thing not only african or nigger unity . the rest of the money we graciously leave them should be used in establishing useless unsustainable businesses that only feed other economies and drain their own . yes we wish them well as they have to us for over 60 years . we in the meantime Akans will build a nation truly worthy of our capabilities and potentials with a minimum wage of not less than 10,000 dollars so our beers in our bars are at least 100 dollars so these pepefuo and ayigbe idiots can not afford to visit us just like the Japanese do to their ndc idols the Chinese , long live the republic of Akan

Nkrumah said Ghana would be developed from the villages and towns up.He built new primary and GET schools (like Ghana National and Yaa Asantewaa Girls Secondary),and the University of Cape Coast - to help educate and train the sons and daughters of fishermen, farmers, laborers, maids and carpenters (most of whom are now leaders of the NDC AND NPP)who he envisaged, would help transform Ghana into a second-tier advanced country. But the bubble burst with his overthrow by some neanderthal soldiers and friends.
Successive leaders from Afrifa to Egya Atta, focused on Accra and Kumasi to the disadvantage of other regions. For instance,Western Region is the richest region in the country, but the infrastructure there is so terrible you would think you're living in the 1920s.To help balance development in all regions, the proposed new airport should be built in the Central or Eastern Region,in areas close to Accra.
Tourism(especially along the coast),is another area if well developed would pump millions,if not billions into our economy. From Half Assini to Keta, the government can team up with private investors to buy all those fishermen's mud houses - build wharfs at strategic places for them - and develop the beaches into resort areas like in the Caribbean Islands.
Decentralization is imperative to allow local communities to form partnerships with local and foreign investors to develop their areas. Coupled with huge investments in education and technology,Ghana will take off like Singapore and South Korea.
But don't suggest these progressive and paradigmatic changes,in the development of this county to the elites in both NDC and NPP. They're still wedded to the "colo" style of development, through which they can steal millions and stash them in foreign banks. There are no more selfless and visionary leaders like Nkrumah and his CPP honchos,to transform this country into a South Korea or Singapore.
Meanwhile, tens of thousands of young men and women, illiterates and school dropouts, flock to Accra and Kumasi - attracted by the bright lights of the cities - to seek their phantom fortunes.
And the beat goes on.
PEACE

The Abeku incident I believe occurred in the third year of Kufuor's NPP government. Starting from the list of names on Mfantsipim's Admissions Notice Board, I discerned a clear ethnocentric bias in favour of Asante-based candidates. If my skeptical observation is only marginally correct, there was a good chance the admissions bias was replicated in other top Cape Coast schools: Wesley Girls High, Holy Child, Ghana National, Adisadel College, St. Augustines, etc. This scenario was most devastating to both Abeku and myself.

The Methodist Church created Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast in 1876 and not the Government of the Gold Coast or Ghana. How come people from the outer regions of Cape Coast would come there to study and leave without being grateful to Cape Coast is worrying.
Most of the boys trained at Mfantsipim, including Dr KA Busia have never looked back to give a little bit back to Cape Coast. This is so unfair. Cape Coast remains a student village and there are no job opportunities there. My question is, can the Ghana government give something back to Cape Coast?.

Two fishermen were adrift in their rented boat in Cape Coast due to an engine failure. While rummaging through the boat's provisions, one of the men stumbled across an old lamp. Secretly hoping that a dwarf would appear, he rubbed the lamp vigorously. To the amazement of the castaways, a dwarf came forth. This particular dwarf, however, stated that he could only deliver one wish, not the standard three.
Without giving much thought to the matter the man blurted out, "Make the entire ocean into beer!" The dwarf clapped his hands with a deafening crash, and immediately the entire sea turned into the finest brew ever sampled by mortals.
Simultaneously, the dwarf vanished. Only the dwarf lapping of beer on the hull broke the stillness as the men considered their circumstances.
One man looked disgustedly at the other whose wish had been granted. After a long, tension filled moment, he spoke: "Nice going idiot! Now we're going to have to piss in the boat!"

i dont believe that i spent all this time reading this rubbish from a so called Kofi Africa. you really want to tell us that because Ashantis go to Mfatsipim your so called Abeiku could not get admmited to the shool. first of all, how were you able to determine that those people were Ashantis- thier names? incredible i will expect someone who can write this long essay to know a little better. mr Kofi Africa do you know that Akans according to the 2010 population census constitute about 49 percent of the population and are the most populous in six regions including Greater Accra? do you also know that within the Akans you can hardly tell where a person is coming from merely by the name? that for example someone called Boateng might come from Ashanti or Brong Ahafo,or western, or Eastern, and even central? next time do a little bit of thinking before you put pen to paper to write this stupid things. if you are really from the central region as you claim then stop these petty Ashanti envy. statistic tell us that apart from the three Northern regions, the other poverty stricken region is central region ironically those three in the North access to free education while you dont yet you people out of stupidity joined them to say no to free SHS. and you are blaming Ashantis for your inability to attend sss. if i were you i would rather employ this energy to educate them to vote wisely and not jump into hasty foolish conclusions. come again
