Mr Barnor, your article with its logical and rational analysis is one of thest I have read so far on this site.
It is pertinent, concise and very insightful analysis.
The issues is most Ghanaians cannot hold two opposing views in their heads. The views which will allow one to criticise something when which deserves criticism and the other which praises when it deserves praise.
We have an Electoral Commssioner who has been paid millions to deliver to Ghanaians a an erro=free snd a foolproof system that will lead to a credible leadership selection contest.
Rather this overseer, supervisor of the system despite the huge monies spent on him and his establishment slept on the job and dilvered a highly biased, error-prone, incredible and fraudulent system.
Afari Gyan deserves prosecution after this issue is settled. He need to be tried separately on this issue.
A disgrace to Ghana and Ghanaians.

Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan the electoral Commissioner has a reputation none of the leaders(J.J. Rawlings, the current president of Ghana, Mahama and Akuffo Addo) can match. What we are witnessing at the ballot box stems from the corrupt behavior of the leaders of both parties. Afari Djan is just a victim of playboy behavior of the Mahama and Akuffo Addo.
How did we get here? If Mahama's NDC and Akuffo Addo's NPP were honest brokers of sincere and corruption free elections none of these nonsense would have arisen. The problem is not Afari Djan. Don't blame the man. Blame NDC and NPP functionaries. They are corrupt and as a result, created vigilante and propagandists like Asiedu Nketia and the so-called Sir John. Afari Djan is a very honest man.

Leaders are corrupt, police are corrupt and everybody is corrupt so we should let corruption go on without seeking any justification from Afari Gyan who has been the EC for almost 20 yrs?
This is the person who does not know what over-voting is and did not have time to train people and yet, 3 months to the election day he was busy going about spending money and time to create or open more constituencies? Does this make sense to you?
Texas (>260,000 ml square) is about two and half bigger than our country and has a population almost like us 26million and yet has 150 district representatives. And yet, for some reason Afari Gyan thought we needed to have more representative and added 45 more to bring it to a whooping 275 without thinking about the cost. While Afari was doing his best to redraw electoral maps in Ghana, at the same time, the US Federal Court was blocking Texas to redraw the electoral map in August 2012.
So Afari Gyan on his wisdom decided to bless us with this debt: 45 more MPs...receiving 50,000 every year for 4 yrs for their cars, and with almost 9,000 a month in salary for them, not including their free gas, accommodation and per diem.
And here we have Mr. Wiafe telling us to forget about the problem or stop talking about Afari Gyan because he is just a human. Hogwash, if you ask me.

If you replace Afari Gyan today--you will still get similar results or worse.

Article on Elections and you`ll realize that you are too far off the mark! Can you tell me that simplyu because an inexperienced elections official incorrectly recorded zero as the number of bona fide voters who actually lined up and cast their ballots, negates such a reality which occured in full glare of the public, including specially designated agents or reps posted to polling stns. to safeguard the interest of their candidate or party?
This spurrious accounting analogy that is being offered here is not tenable because the 'rules' governing both activities are completely different! And what has the tallying of ballots of equal weight, cast by voters across the country got to do with "debits" and "credits" as we understand it in the strict accounting sense?

Have partisans like Barnor and company sat back and reflected on what the petitioners are are really asking the SC to do? We can blame Dr. Afari Gyan all we want, but suppose the tables were reversed, sometime in the not too distant future, and a case was presented to the SC,that essentialy sought to annul the votes of the NPP candidate in Ashanti and the Eastern regions, would the NPP and their supporters be happy? To me, this excuse of launching this petition to 'clean'up the country`s electoral system is self-serving and dishonest! It also confirms my suspicion that the leadership of this country, especially the NPP,want power so they too can 'chop Ghana small'.

The election process in Gh, not withstanding who the declared winner is, has long been fraught with electoral fraud.
There were pre-filled ballots boxes during some of the previous elections. The introduction of BVD machines was designed bcos of rigged elections.
We do not have to accept a fraudulent electoral system. If the NDC were declared as losers you would ask for audit swell. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

For the amount of money spent on the election to have this outcome causing the whole country to stagnant is no fun at all. Just look at Mahama, no one really cares about what he is doing, affecting his ability to focus on the problems of the country because he and most of the reasonable people know his legitimacy as a leader has been tainted. Is anybody checking other sources for the definitions of 'Over Voting' . Wikipedia gives a definition that emphasizes 'Voting for more than one candidate' as the real meaning for Over Voting! That may not apply in the Third World where political players are only concerned about ballot stuffing which is a rare occurrence in the First World where the language of English originates! That explains our difficulty of reconciling with The Afari-Djan or Bawumia definition.
And what is the hullabaloo about the Afari admission to allow 'well known personalities' to vote without finger print verification? Oh Ghana, what is this near meanness?! The sole purpose of a BVD machine is to unequivocally identify an individual. The next purpose may be to minimize or eliminate multiple voting. A swipe of the biometric voter's card should reveal the picture and confirm the data on the person - not so? If the finger verification is challenged and all agree that person is as he holds himself should that be inferior to the BVD machine?
On the serial numbers: yes the BVD machines and the ballot papers must have these for proper identification. However, the insistence for 'Pink sheets' to have serial numbers only belies ones inexperience on elections. Polling Centre codes should be the 'serial numbers' for the Pink sheets if one wants to call them that. These codes are unique and serialized!
Please, let us all try to manage the current situation with equanimity. Some countries have flared up because of slips in handling such situations. Thank you all!
