Naa Wellington was one of the few ladies who wrote articles for ghanaweb. Some of us got to "know" her through her articles on these pages. The ghanaweb forum has become quite a social meeting place for the regulars. That was why it was a shock to hear untimely death last year. It felt like losing a member of your extended family. Her Facebook page was left empty. There were no updates from her until someone informed of her death whereupon the condolences started pouring in. But she was not there to acknowledge them... How cruel death is! MAY SHE CONTINUE RESTING IN EVERLASTING PEACE IN THE BOSSOM OF THE LORD. AMEN.
Her articles can still be read on the archives of Ghanaweb. The last one was posted on October 11, 2013.
As for her degree, if she completed the requirements before her death, then she should surely be awarded the full degree. If not, then it can only be an honorary one posthumously granted. Of what use will that be to anybody?

Yes, Kela was a Ghanaweb.com columnist, and I should have emphasized that aspect of her beautiful life as well. I was more concerned, however, with arguing for a posthumous degree for her, since she undoubtedly deserved one.
While Kela is not here to personally receive it, it would be an honor to hand it to her children, via a short ceremony on the campus of AUCC! I hope Kojo Yankah is reading this piece.
Please see below the link to a similar story of a Vietnam veteran who was awarded a doctorate posthumously. Yes, Kela ought to receive the real thing, not an honorary degree.

Danny don't do this again - keeping me suspense; my young heart is weak for that. I have never ran through an article like this, never, ever. I had goose bumps all over me while running through the article to see if it was Naa Wellington who used to be a columnist here. Oh God, life is not fair. Oh, my Lord. What happened!
I remember those times I used to come here to read great articles by yourself, Lola, Nana Amma, Afreh Bernard and having healthy debates going on among Asante, Sarpong, Beautiful North, etc. Oh my lord!
Such a talent; I did not even know she was trying to get her degree. This makes me to respect her more. So we were unlucky to read from her "more advanced" mind again. I thought she just stopped writing because of what this place has been reduced to.
So sorry, May the good lord take care of the family. May he grant the love as Naa would have done. May the Lord grant the family courage to carry on.
Please, send the request to the school, but find out from the family first if they are willing to go through it emotionally.

Sad. I never knew she is more until I read this piece. Then I visited her Facebook wall and I couldn't hide my tears. It is almost a year now since she passed away.I never met her but she was a good friend and I always got encouraged whenever I had a chat with her. I remember during one of our chats, she told me she wanted to stop sending feature articles to Ghanaweb because of criticism from some readers but I encouraged her to continue her good work. She was just a great person.
Thank you Dan for this great piece for our dear sister. May her soul rest in peace!
