Much as I support national integration I think it is not sound to use establishment of universities as a cohesion medium. There are so many illiterate graduates who can’t find work; partly because they did not acquire any employable skills like problem solving, analyzing, communication, interpersonal, etc., skills. Some even don’t know the subject matter of their majors. They just bought some photocopies of some old notes of disgruntled lazy professor (or at best instructor) lacking knowledge of the trend in his field.
The government should use the funds to support or develop some industries in the regions not producing some unemployable graduates.

It is clear from your piece that you are the preacher of ethnocentrism. Apart from a cheap talk that some (not all) universities are cited in regional capitals and so the new ER university must also follow same you offered no tangible reason for your noise. It is even laughable that you ended suggesting Abuakwa or Akim Oda. Are these towns Koforidua?? Clearly what you did was to defeat your write-up and expose your tribal painted little mind. If you dont know anything about the stretch of the Accra plains dont deceive any one that because Somanya is found in the Accra plains so it is just an extension of Somanya. Check the distance between Accra- Somanya, Accra-Koforidua and you will not be making such a mistake. GIVE GHANAIANS A BREAK

Nothing stops Koforidua and other so-called traditional Akan dominated areas in the Eastern Region to offer the government many more sites for many more campuses for the same university. What a puerile write up! I am not from Koforidua but I have been in negotiations with some chiefs and financiers to establish a higher institution of learning that is usually only seen in the developed world. Should the government do everything? What are the citizens of Koforidua/New Juaben doing to uplift the town or to make it attractive to investors? I am not from Koforidua and neither am I an Akan but I do not allow tribal considerations influence where I consider for my proposals. This type of provincial mindset of the writer is the reason we are still stuck in under developent.

Fire will rather burn you idiots --Kwame Asem and Akumah! You two have rather shown what foolish tribal bigots you are. The writer gave cogent reasons why he thought Koforidua should be a better site for the university as compared to Somanya. Instead of countering his arguments with intelligent reasoning, Kwame Asem would rather have the public to believe that Ex-Prez Kuffour did nothing for the Volta Region. To his warped mind, even constructing the Tema-Aflao highway amounts to nothing! As for BroAkumah, the least said about him, the better. He feels good turning history upside-down in his postulation that Ashanti migrants came to settle on Krobo lands! He should take a trip to Ashanti, Akim-Abuakwa, Brong-Ahafo, etc to see for himself the population of Krobos occupying Akan lands and earning a living as farm labourers. It is an incontroversible fact that Mahama and his NDC government want to site the Eastern University in Somanya purely on the basis of political bias. The issue is all about compensating the Krobos for being the only NDC enclave within the Eastern 'Block'. There is no other reason why Somanya should be chosen ahead of the regional capital, Koforidua.

I am an Akyem guy living in the States right now since then, and I will support where ever they build the University. Yet Somanya is as good as any other district town in the Eastern Region. After all, the people are friendly as long as you respect their elders like yours. Somanya is also centrally located to all parts of the Eastern region. Guys from all over the country will enjoy the Yilo hospitality. I hope all my friends are still living - from Ogome, Sra, Somanya and Odumasi. I hope you get the University built, surrounded by the mangoes and pineapple farms. From Somanya all the way to the mountains. I still love you all. Long live Yilo Krobo, Long live Akyemlands, God bless United Ghana.
