I agree. The laws have to be changed to make more Ghanaians with dual citizenship be able to serve their country. The Americans do it and it's helped built the country. You see Chinese Americans, Indian Americans and others all over the place in various high level governmental positions and the results is there for all to see.

These local professionals and politicians don't give a darn about the country and its citizens, getting rich by any means necessary, only to flaunt it is the "WHATS UP" in Ghana.
Now, let me be frank most of these diaspora Ghanaians aren't any much better, many never gave up the village and unsophistication in them, so much cannot be trusted to them except yes they've been abroad. I have seen some 100% local breeds with much better personality than some "has beens". So to strike a far bargain, let us simply allow every person of Ghanaian origin to contribute to the growth and progress of the nation. It will happen. Lately the nature of the population is changing rapidly, more mixed race and mixed cultural Ghanains are on the rise, and sooner than later all the ugly faces are going to start a class or race war, no more tribalism. Me personally I believe in Eugenics for Ghanaians. Let us force breed smart and beautiful Ghanaians, allow all the stupid ugly villagers to die a natural death...say next 10years? I am inpatient!

When I am despairing at Ghanaian attitudes and losing my sense of reason, then I clutch at straws and think of something along those lines. I laughed when I read yours, thinkingto myself, if ever there was truer statement made. Oops but I am also being glib.

Ask any Ghanaian with dual citizenship why they have chosen that path and the answer is simple: economic security. No Ghanaian with dual citizenship loves Ghana any less than Ghanaians without dual citizenship. I sincerely believe that the legislators are aware of this fact, yet they have designed the laws of the country to deny Ghanaians with dual citizenship the legal right to hold government office because of either short-sightedness, wickedness or insecurity.
Now let me explain myself. Whereas I think some of the framers of the laws may have been short-sighted, I believe others decided to deny Ghanaians with dual citizenship the legal right to hold government positions just to be wicked because they think a Ghanaian with American or British citizenship already has more than enough. I think there are others too who are afraid that if they allow Ghanaians with dual citizenship to serve in the Ghana government many people from America, Britain and elsewhere will come with advanced qualifications and experience and effectually make the competition for government positions tougher for other Ghanaians who have not had the same exposure and experience.
It is about time to change the dual citizenship law in Ghana so that Ghanaians with dual citizenship can bring their knowledge and experience to help shape the country's development. To make the dual citizenship law better I think certain conditions should be put in place.
1. Anyone who is originally a Ghanaian by birth should not be made to lose their right to serve in government when they acquire dual citizenship with certain carefully selected number of countries.
2. Anyone who is not a born Ghanaian but have dual citizenship with Ghana and another country should not be allowed to hold a government position in Ghana until they denouce the citizenship of the other country. Remember such people can however work in non-sensitive government positions but certainly NOT in sensitive positions.
Finally we all need to remember that just as Tetteh Quarshie brought cocoa from Fernando Po to Ghana other born Ghanaians with or without dual citizenship always want the best for Ghana and so with wealth or knowledge that they acquire elsewhere they always think of bringing it to Ghana. Nobody should stand in the way of any born Ghanaian from serving his/her country in any capacity.

But if there indeed is a way where there is a will, I do not see why John Mahama could not get Dr. Thomson and other qualified dual citizens to come take charge of the so-called sensitive areas in question.
In as much as foreign governments have and still send consultants to dictate how we run our sensitive areas of the military, economy including the banking system and the central bank in implicit violation of the so-called law, I cannot see why if necessary, such qualified people cannot be brought in as 'consultants' in de facto control of these positions so that token Muntakas can be presented to the public as de jure heads of such areas

The bastard & NDC stood in the way of this plus fighting against Ghanaians in diaspora from voting---no need to alter it just roll with the punches---56 + years of Independence & 80% of pop. live in squalor--filth all over, no adequate water,electricity,dirth roads,& mosquitoe-infested urban ---areas---yet you've so-called Ministers,Parliamentarians, the rich etc.ride in the latest models of cars in Europe/N.America---as Ghanaians we've not set our priorities right--and if I may add, we seem not to have graduated to a point where we're capable of serve-governance--this isn't to cast any aspersions but to let Ghanaians know the obvious--we simply can't manage our affairs--put the country on Receivership.
I'm optimistically pessimistic that 56 years from now Ghana wouldn't have made any strides in its development and probably worse than it is today--
We can't manage the little things in our environment to make life livable for the average folks--its a shame.

The United States has specific rules governing the loss of US citizenship. Serving in a foreign government position, under certain circumstances could be cause for losing your US citizenship. Below are some of the rules:
1.Obtaining naturalization in a foreign state upon one's own application after the age of 18 (Sec. 349 (a) (1) INA);
2. Taking an oath, affirmation or other formal declaration of allegiance to a foreign state or its political subdivisions after the age of 18 (Sec. 349 (a) (2) INA);
3. Entering or serving in the armed forces of a foreign state engaged in hostilities against the U.S. or serving as a commissioned or non-commissioned officer in the armed forces of a foreign state (Sec. 349 (a) (3) INA);
4. Accepting employment with a foreign government after the age of 18 if (a) one has the nationality of that foreign state or (b) an oath or declaration of allegiance is required in accepting the position (Sec. 349 (a) (4) INA);
I suspect that before one can serve in a high position with the Ghana Government, one would have to take an oath or allegiance to Ghana which would contravene item 4 above.
