Killing of “spirit children” abolished in Upper East Region
From: Ghana|Myjoyonline.com Published On: April 28, 2013, 14:33 GMT
The practice of killing children believed to possess spirits, has now been formerly abolished in seven communities of the Upper East region.
The chiefs, opinion leaders and people of the seven communities which are in the Kasena-Nankana East and West districts, have publicly announced the end of the spirit child phenomenon.
Myjoyonline.com published a report on April 1, 2011, on the chilling practice of cultural murder; the killing of babies who are born with deformities, or whose birth coincide with a tragic incident in the family, such as the loss of a parent.
In that report titled "SHOCKING!… Ritual baby killing
in Northern Ghana", Joy News Seth Kwame Boateng visited the “Sirigu” orphanage to uncover the chilling practice of cultural murder; the killing of babies who are deformed at birth.
The Seven communities, known to be practicing the killing of alleged spirit children, held a grand durbar on Saturday, to announce an end to the age old barbaric practice.
The declaration followed 12 years of intensive education against the practice, by Afrikids Ghana, a Child Rights Non-governmental Organisation.
Meanwhile, the 30 elders (concoction men), who brew poisonous liquid from local roots and herbs and force-feeds the alleged spirit children until they die, have been presented with four goats, a bicycle each, food items and have been registered under the National Health Insurance.
They are now to be called “Life Promoters” and have been tasked to promote the life of hitherto spirit children.
As part of the package, the former concoction men will be taken on a trip to schools in the communities to interact with pupils on specific issues affecting them.

Tsatsu's supporters will tell you he made a first class at Legon and went to Oxford. That's all his achievement. The funny thing is there are many other Ghanaian first classes and Oxbridge (Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard) been-to's, who together don't create half the noise Tsatsu and his supporters create about himself. Yet, what are his real achievements? Nihil! If we had allowed to be in charge in GNPC, this institution will be farming rather than looking for oil. Tsatsu is a Paper Tiger, period!

Tsatsu (Tincutter) squandered hundreds of Thousands of Dollars of our Money that had been earmarked for the Oil Exploration. And when he was found GUILTY by almost every Court in the country, he resorted to APPEALS like from here to ETERNITY.
In fact I personally got so brassed off as to why the Kuforu Administration had given so many privilleges to this man when a petty thief can easily go to jail for stealing a mere chocolate.
Now, at the time that he had axhausted all the avenues from the Ghanaian Courts, he appealed to the African Peer Review Commission who also found him GUILTY.
In fact Tsatsu was as GUILTY as a SIN, and I still detest Kufour for giving him an amnesty.
He is also a Wife Snatcher. His wife, Esther Cobber, was someone else's wife.
The fact of the matter is, most of all these NDC Lawyers and their few intellectuals are simply BRAIN DEAD.
They went to school just to take Exams
instead of Studying. So that when Tsatsu Tincutter scores a small victory then the world should know about it.
Well, let him show his Legal prowess if he could save his NDC CULT/EC from an EMBARRASSING DEFEAT FROM THE SUPREME COURT.
IT IS NOT OVER UNTIL IT IS OVER!!!!!

Tsatsu also told us at the beginning of the trial the petitioners and their counsel are arithmetically challenged. Now, we know it's Tsatsu and his team who are arithmetically challenged. They can't even do simple addition on the pink sheet, forcing the judges to occasionally step in and call their bluff.

There are no controversies surrounding his certificates because, unlike the NDC, the NPP doesn't believe in stupid propaganda. If someone in the NPP had raised questions about Tsatsu's qualifications, Nana Addo would have been the first person to ask them to cut the crap. Indeed, when the issue about Nana Addo not being a lawyer was first raised, Atta Mills was so embarrassed he stepped in to cut the crap. But as soon as the man died, what did the NDC do? They brought their evil propaganda back, with leading NDC gurus like Tsatsu and Kpegah lending it their weight. That's the difference between Nana Addo and Tsatsu.
But is all this surprising? No. While Nana Addo was fighting the human rights abuses of military regimes, Tsatsu was busy aiding same with Kangaroo Courts! Whereas Nana Addo used his Third Class in Econs and subsequent professional legal training to create businesses and fight for justice for the ordinary man pro bono, Tsatsu was using his acclaimed First Class LLB and BCL to support human rights abuses and run down state institutions like the GNPC. You dare compare Tsatsu's achievement with Nana Addo's?

Yes, we admit that he quit Oxford only after one year. We also admit that Nana Addo made a Third Class in Econs before he went to train as a lawyer in the UK. In spite of this checkered background, Nana Addo worked hard as a lawyer to distinguish himself, and his record as a lawyer and a businessman is there for all to see. Goodness, Nana Addo even instigated the current telecoms revolution we're enjoying today by bringing in the first mobile and express mail services in Ghana.
When Nana Addo was using his Third Class to expand the frontiers of freedom of speech and enterprise, Tsatsu was using his First Class cunning to set up Kangaroo Courts and run down state institutions. If you disagree, please tell us and stop beating about the bush.

"Tsikata held a Junior Research Fellowship at Corpus Christi College, Oxford where he also served as a tutor. On his return to Ghana in 1974, he was appointed a lecturer at the law faculty of the University of Ghana. Some of his students included Kwamena Ahwoi, Alban Bagbin, former majority leader in the Parliament of Ghana and Freddie Blay, former first deputy speaker in the Parliament of Ghana.
Tsikata has served as counsel to a number of notable personalities over the years. These include Captain Kojo Tsikata, his cousin and Kofi Awoonor. During the era of the National Redemption Council/Supreme Military Council military regimes of Acheampong, he defended Samuel Okudjeto and William Ofori Atta who stood trial for political reasons. After the May 15 uprising in 1979, he was counsel for Jerry Rawlings during the treason trial that came to an abrupt end when the SMC military government led by Fred Akuffo was overthrown on 4 June 1979."

Oil Find In Ghana: Sam Jonah Praises Tsikata/GNPC
======================================
16 September 2009
Sam Jonah
I have followed with keen interest the news of a commercial oil find in Ghana and the optimism that it has engendered in the country. There is a welcome buoyancy in the mood of many Ghanaians as they look forward to being an oil-producing country. There are many people and institutions that deserve credit for the oil find — members of staff of the GNPC through to its present staff and of course to the public that patiently supported the difficult, protracted but unavoidable exploration effort. There is indeed enough credit to go round.
I cannot therefore help being disappointed that amidst all the celebrations, no mention is made of the pioneering role of Tsatsu Tsikata. When I compare the exciting prospects generated by the discovery with the state of affairs 20-odd years ago, I am reminded of the contrast between the situation of the mining sector before and after the implementation of the reforms of the mid-1980s. I first joined the board of the Minerals Commission in September 1984. At that time, the mining sector was in a parlous state. As a result of the work done by a few dedicated people under the leadership of Kofi Ansah, the sector was completely transformed in less than a decade.
In the mining sector, we at least had the benefit of over 100 years of mining and considerable technical expertise. The oil sector in the early 1980s did not enjoy any such stature. I recall the scepticism with which prospects of Ghana finding oil in commercial quantities was greeted at the time. I remember in 1985, while on a trip to the U.S., asking a chief executive of one of the major oil companies why they were not showing interest in searching for oil in Ghana. His response was that their geophysicists had told them that our geological structures were too tight and too badly faulted to host significant reservoirs. Today, we know just how wrong those geophysicists were. One man who defied the prevailing scepticism of the time and, with a persistence bordering on stubbornness, led the efforts to get us where we are today, is Tsatsu Tsikata.
Indeed, when I shared with him, shortly after it was made, the observation by the chief executive of the oil major, Tsatsu’s response was: “Let’s all wait and see”. Tsatsu led in the rethinking of petroleum sector policy. He led in crafting the petroleum (Exploration and Production) law that was the “investment code” for the oil sector. He led in drafting model exploration agreements including fiscal regime and Accounting Guide that is still state-of-the-art 20 years later. He led in the development of a specific Petroleum Income Tax Law. Beyond this intellectual and professional contribution Tsatsu emerged as a corporate leader — building GNPC itself from the ground up. His vision was sufficiently infectious to attract even hard-nosed oil men to work on Ghana’s potential, often with very little reward. However, it is in his identification, recruitment and promotion of local talent that
Tsatsu truly excelled. He was truly passionate about building the capacity of Ghanaian professionals in the sector. Companies and government’s that had dealings with GNPC were pressured into funding scholarships and providing or funding attachments for GNPC staff and even staff from related MDAs. Tsatsu foresaw that this investment would in its own way be as valuable to Ghana as any oil find. And history has proved him right. Today, even before the first oil has flowed, Ghana has a solid cadre of industry professionals ready, given the opportunity, to lead us into the next phase of oil industry development.
We have seasoned exploration geologists and geophysicists, drilling engineers, field development engineers. We have specialised market and financial analysts and lawyers.
In the late 1980s GNPC was already developing boat and helicopter services expertise for production operations. In the 1980s (20 years before the West African Gas Pipeline and before climate change became a global preoccupation), GNPC was training staff in the economics and management of natural gas. Tsatsu was relentless, even obsessive, about the meticulous exploration of Ghana’s oil potential. He recognised that geological and geophysical data were essential preconditions for any serious effort to attract private capital into exploration efforts. He thus focused GNPC’s meagre resources on an ambitious data project.
GNPC scoured corporate and public archives around the world collecting geological and seismic materials, data and analysts from earlier exploration efforts. GNPC then constructed the most complete database of seismic information about Ghana anywhere in the world.
Then through a joint venture with the Norwegian state oil company, GNPC seismologists began to reprocess and re-analyse this data using new technology. Tsatsu did not stop with old data. He worked with state oil companies from Canada (Petro-Canada International), Norway (Statoil) and Brazil (Petrobras) and Nigeria (NNPC’s seismic subsidiary) to acquire new data.
Through these bilateral arrangements GNPC staff became familiar with modern technology such as “3-D” seismic surveys.
Eventually, Tsatsu persuaded these collaborators to support GNPC’s acquisition of the expensive computer technology to enable her Ghanaian explorationists to undertake much of this analysis in Ghana. This in turn provided a platform for a massive upgrade of GNPC’s computer technology with positive impacts on all other sectors of its work and with distinct benefits for example for Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. It was the availability of this extensive database and the challenging analyses of old data by Ghanaian geophysicists working under Tsatsu that made Ghana such an attractive exploration destination in the mid-’80s despite earlier scepticism. It was the ceaseless interpretation and re-interpretation of the GNPC’s growing geological and geophysical database inspired by and supervised by Tsatsu that identified many new prospects.
Tsatsu literally set the course of Ghana’s exploration drilling for an entire generation. Those who worked with him in the sector are in a better position than I to give further details. But I saw enough to be able to say that his investment in institution building and in exploration have contributed immensely to the recent discoveries at Cape Three Points. For the health of our nation, for the sake of posterity and the development of a culture that recognises selfless and dedicated service, we must all acknowledge the immense contribution that Tsatsu made to the development of the petroleum sector. It is not too late to do so.

Many viewed the charges against Tsikata as politically motivated and an attempt by the Kufuor government to tarnish a key member of the opposition. The late President Mills agreed, saying that Tsikata deserved a national award not prison.
Mr. Tsikata holds an LLB first class honours from University of Ghana; Bachelor of Civil Law, first class honours, Oxford University and was Junior Research Fellowship, Corpus Christi College, Oxford University.
He was a law lecturer at University of Ghana Law Faculty, 1974-88; Advisor to Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings (then Chairman of the Armed Forces Revolutionary Council), 1979 and 1982; Legal Representative, Jerry Rawlings, May 15 uprising treason trial, 1979; Chief Executive Officer, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), 1988-2000; advised Equatorial Guinea on the formation of national oil company GEPetrol; advised Benin on developing the Seme oilfield.
He also provided some expertise on the construction of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, the floating production storage and offloading vessel at the Jubilee Oil Fields in the Western Region. This was after years of working tirelessly to enable Ghana find crude oil despite doubts even from within the Rawlings government.
He is also credited with bringing to Ghana, the now famous ECOBANK. Brought Westel an American telecommunication company, which was later sold by the Kufuor administration to Mo Ibrahim’s Zain now called Airtel after it was sold to an Indian investor.

In Ghana, we've lived to worship our so-called educated and in the process failed to distinguish between dishonesty and principled stance. Here is Divine Nkrumah, a PPP national youth coordinator who would write an article that is a tribute to political foolishness and gutter intellect. I am of the opinion that it is better for a common criminal to steal from one person even if in the process the victim dies and society gets to decide the fate of the criminal (death or imprisonment without parole) than for white collar criminal whose act almost always has the potential to slowly kill, maim and alter life expectancy of thousands of people who gets light treatment because society assume no one got killed.
I personally do not know Tsatsu Tsikata, never met him and could care less about his politics, but I will take the Tsikata's of Ghana anytime and anywhere over the Kufours and the Rawlings of Ghana. Tsikata has not been elected president and or leader of Ghana but Kufour and J.J. Rawlings have been.
I am here to tell Ghanaians that we have finally shown that we have a meaningless educated elite group. Dr. Bawumia took post graduate studies in economics which includes application of statistical analysis and modeling; he is however not a statistician. To have a so-called mostly educated NPP party imply that Dr. Bawumia is a renowned expert in statistics boggles the mind. But then Dr. Bawumia is the ultimate example of our worship of educated fools. I dare anyone to ask Dr. Bawumia what data sets he used for his so-called statistical sampling that supported his conclusion that the election was either stolen or rigged in favor of John Mahama? I remind readers that under cross examination Dr. Bawumia has been forced to acknowledge error and thus paired down the number of polling stations suspected of being prone to over counts or over votes.

Akadu Mensema what have your brought to the Ghanaian table, Tsatsu Tsikata brought GNPC and MILICOM to the table.
What have you.
Why is NPP so scared of Tsatsu? Suddenly, the whole NPP party is talking and demonising Tsatsu. I think they are thinking that he is the man to beat so they are turning their attention on him.
Because the whole NDC was claiming Tsatsu is a legal wizard gone to shred the NPP legal team into pieces. Yet, we're not seeing it. Instead, hiding behind his seniority at the bar, he has resorted to insulting counsel for the ...

Yes, the overseer of the Kangaroo Courts is now talking about ethics, natural justice and human rights. The cheek of it!
Yeah right. But he lectured most of those lawyers sitting in that courtroom in the University, right?
Some of you have NO understanding of what goes on in a court of law,so just stop displaying your ignorance here.
By your logic, merely having taught great men and women also makes you great. In fact, you're saying makes you greater. Tsatsu's primary school teacher is therefore greater than Tsatsu. Is that your logic?
GODDAMMIT !!! This is the fourth article on Tsatsu today from the NPP goons. The Great man is yet to open his mouth in that courtroom but NPP goons are already catching cold without him sneezing.

Despite being "first class" in anything including stealing, what are his achievements? Nothing. Nana is not educated but with commonsense, he is able to set up a law firm that trains lawyers. That only is an achievement.
I think it too early to assess Tsatsu. The man has not started his main job yet so lets cross our fingers.
WAIT FOR TSATSU TO HAVE HIS TURN. WHAT TONY LITUR DID TO BAWEUMIA IS JUST A TIP OF THE ICEBERG. THEY THINK THEY CAN INTIMIDATE TSASTU TO TONE DONE BUT HE WOULD NOT
