This is a wonderful article. When I read something about counterfeit drugs, my mind races to the innovative work of my dear friend, Bright Simmons. M-pedigree which is an ingenious way of detecting counterfeit drugs ought to have long been embraced by the Ghanaian community and local pharmaceutical firms. The method involves sending a message to a short code on a phone to verify the authenticity of a drug. Just within five seconds, one gets a response in this regard.
According to the authors, "the Ghana Health Service in collaboration with the Ministry of Health needs to embark on rigorous citizen education and sensitization, especially of the uneducated with regards to the menace,". Fair Enough! Indeed, I strongly believe that considering the craftiness and machinations of the counterfeit drug dealers, the sensitization should be technologically based.
Keep the flag flying.

This is a wonderful and insightful piece on the dangers of counterfeit drugs. Interestingly because it is devoid of our politics, tribal bigotry, SC case and certificates or no certificates, our, the serial commentators appear not to have seen it. What are a shame. Together and consciously we are dragging a good country into peril, how sad.

The menace of counterfeit drugs has been with us for a very long time and so far we appear to have done nothing about it.Bootlegging or counterfeitting of drugs and other products has been with us longer than we're prepared to admit.Way back in the 70s I saw an ampicillin capsule that was filled with corn flour. The longer we wait the more lives are endangered.
One thing we need to understand is there are bad guys everywhere who are mostly driven by greed and will do anything under the sun to safeguard their lucrative business. For whatever reason the state agencies and institutions mandated to fight the danger have simply folded their arms and turned the blind eye. This is gross dereliction of duty and the offenders must face the full rigour of the law.
We cannot afford to continuously give out paychecks to people who prefer not to work to earn their living. The problem is more widespread than most people will admit.I'm of the opinion that the state has long been in the business of rewarding laziness instead of rewarding industry and hardwork. Ironically the state is aiding and abetting crime against the state. Our nation's development and growth has been stalled partly as a result of this bad business practice. Enough harm has been done already and it's time to pull the plug on lazy state officials and bring them to justice. We cannot safeguard the health of our citizens if we cannot take a two pronged attack on those state officials who fail to do their work and those bootleggers in the drug industry.

And the main problem in society now is the fact that the very body dress nicely to church or mosque every sunday and Friday to praise, thank, worship and give big offers to God. These are the very people that come back to commit these unsavoury acts from usually starting from Monday-Friday. Everybody look inocent on the surface, but are killers inside!!!
