Hello Mr. Osei-Poku,
What you have here is not a fact. The fact rather is this.
1. That the GES curriculum makes room for Citizenship Education at the Primary Schools in this country and is been taught as a subject.
2. That, at the JHS level, citizenship and nation building as well as independence and nationhood are all topics under which students are taught about their civic rights, freedoms and responsibilities.
3. That, through the activities of the National Commission for Civic Education, many schools in Ghana have Civic Education Clubs. The commission from time to time organises talks as well as quizes as part of their activities to engage students in civic affairs.
4. That, it is also a fact that at the SHS level, Subjects like Government and Social Studies make room for what you are now calling for.Thank You.

I was about to tell Osei-Poku that I appreciate his observation, but that was not the problem or solution, no knowing that he never stepped in a Ghanaian class or lecture room. Anyway, I forgive him, my problem with Ghanaian culture and attitude is that it is retrogressive, but out of some form of uncontrollable complex, we like to believe in our backward cultures and inefficient languages. Almost all of the deplorable newly crafted Ghanaian attitudes are because of the massive influx of uneducated citizens, citizens who are to hopeless to educated in any form or fashion, citizens who are too backward in their ways to change, 90% of whom speak Twi for various reasons. Until we come to grips with these facts and realities no amount of whining will get us there. See Sir Harry stated the facts, but never an opinion. The smart ones and knowledgeable ones are out there, but they have given up...just watching...

Yes it is true that Ghanaians lack civic education which can easily be tackled making use of the media. Anybody who believes that the NPP can provide free education in the current global trends is completely out of touch. Even the advanced countries are now struggling with such issues despite their superior taxation structure. We need to educate ourselves through the media instead of the daily insults being traded which people seem to enjoy now.

You can try and conceal the facts, but the truth is one dimensional. Look back to the days when Accra was civilized, young respected the old, civil discourse was the order of the day, the streets were clean even if still dusty, you hailed a taxi and waited at a particular spot for your tro-tro. These days, taxis chase down pedestrians, honky indiscriminately at everyone. Loud and obnoxious yells in Twi both from humans and radios. Rash talk permeates every corner of society from the moment the cock crows. Annoying Twi commentary fills the air from the street vendor right into bank lobbies and offices. People are still glued to their TV's inside their offices. I won't be surprised if someone actually confessed to me that the same thing happens in our classrooms and lecture halls...GHANA TV, RADIO...ignorant Akan movies and commercials. WHAT DO YOU PEOPLE REALLY WANT?
