national security is always at risk when the govt of the day is tribalist , amateur , incompetent , corrupt and doesnt have the confidence of the majority of the people as is the case today because of election engineering and rigging. however if they are able to reaffirm that they are willing and able to adhere to the interests of the people instead of this attitude of my time has come so now i go chop some . the govt is supposed to serve all the people and not ting that the people are to serve their selfish evil motivated agendas. the unity of the nation is in jeopardy due to the ewes , northerners, gas and some ashanti retards and the best way is to after over 50 years call for a referendum as to determine which regions wish to remain in Ghana as i am sure most Akans no longer wish to be part of this nonsense. without unity and a general awareness with integrity the country can never develop

Was Dr. Okoampa-Ahoofe not expecting any development since the inception of independence?
Dr Okoampa-Ahoofe’s premise must be scrutinized further: that “the cause of such lack of ideological diversity and rhetorical liberty is not far-fetched; and it is, of course, the fact that the government of the day controlled the overwhelming majority of media facilities in the country” and that “while, for instance, there existed a few privately owned newspapers, no private individual or citizen owned and operated either a radio or television station. The reason given for this dull state of affairs was "national security."”
Much as this premise used for this text might be weak, I do not equally agree with the reason that Dr. Ahoofe gave as responsible for this dull state of affairs - National Security. Given that the media is the fourth in realm in most democracies, it is only prudent and in the right scheme of events for the media to take their rightful place and play the role they are supposed to in the dissemination of information for the consumption and education of the general public.
So, it is difficult however to dissociate state media from incumbent governments. In some democracies, media houses align themselves and sympathize with a particular political ideology and might emerge aligning with a particular political party and hence the incumbent government granted that the party wins elections. A glance at the American democracy reveals so many media houses: FOX, CNN, NBC, CSPAN, ABC, to name just a few, and yet some of their reportage are skewed toward a party affiliation? Do you think that Government controls these media houses?
Now, bringing the issue home, Ghanaians need to thank Dr. Wrekko Brobbey and the current President Mahama for the various roles they played in liberalizing Ghanaian airways. Dr Wrekko-Brobbey had his Radio Eye dismantled, disbanded and terminated. Of course, we were then a fledgling nascent democracy at the time and these unwarranted events were/should be expected. But we then learnt our lessons and grew as there emerged numerous print and electronic media; the Statesman, the vociferous NPP Ghanaian Chronicle, the Daily Guide etc Today, Ghana boasts of a bevy of print media outlets. We are doing well with regards to independent TV stations too. Yet, I have my doubts if these media houses have been kowtowed to government dictates. I do think that all these media development augur well for the nation. The media outlets provide for dissemination of information, a contest of political ideas which is good for our democracy. As long as these fiercely contested ideas do not lead to war, they are good in nurturing our democracy.
Dr. Okoampa-Ahoofe then had cause to link his text to President Mahama indicating that “At any rate, when he exhorts radio talk-show hosts and their directors to "cut down on the amount of politics discussed on the airwaves," Mr. Mahama ought to be envisaged to be shamelessly pleading his own cause.” It is unfair to characterize this way, what the President said. I do think that what the Commander-In-Chief said was for the media to concentrate on issues of national concern and development. Being a media expert himself, he would have been shooting himself on the foot by trying to control media as per the assertions of Dr Ahoofe.
Criticizing the appointments the president made at this point in time is baseless and unsubstantiated. We need to have a span of time to evaluate his appointees…but to jump to conclusions is like shooting before aiming.
