You got it right. Corruption, mismanagent and incompetence as well as lack of proper understanding of the airline industry led to the demise of Ghanair. A flight attendant on Ghana airways once told me most of the females had to sleep with anybody who was somebody in Ghana airways in order to get the job. You have government officials and their numerous girlfriends and cronies flying for free; relatives and friends of Ghana airways employees flying for free. I took a Ghana airways from Baltimore to Kotoka and excess luggage fees were collected with no receipts issued. The workers simply pocketed the amounts they collected. Ghana airways did not build any meaningful relationships with major international carriers like BA, KLM etc. The concept of service in a modern economy was not part of the vocabulary of employees of the defunct national airline.

The comparison of Ghana Airways to Ethiopian Airways is dumb. I agree Ghana Airways was mismanaged but Ethiopian Airways is surviving only because of the African Union. Hundreds of their staff fly Ethiopian Airways around the world for flimsy excuses and at any cost to the so-called Union. Delta is not breaking even, even with the stupid charges on airfares to Ghana and Africa.

Yes, Ethiopian Airlines you are the BEST in Africa. SA and Kenya Airways don't even come close considering war and famine years ago. The late President, Meles Zenawi was a visionary and a strong leader, though he had his faults. He reminded me of our own, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of blessed memory.
However, with strong teamwork, dedication and hard work among all the 6,300 brave men and women of the airline, it has made a successful financial year.
Captain Amsale Gualu, is the first Ethiopian female pilot. Very impressive indeed. Check this out, the airline flies to 41 cities in Africa. They also fly to Europe, USA Brazil and Asia. Total Operational Fleet=48 Aircraft. Fleet on Order: 42 Aircraft (2 Boeing Dreamliner787 in service, but grounded by FAA)the third Dreamliner787 to delivered in June 2013.
I hope we can all learn from the Ethiopian Airline experience. It takes a village to make anything work in Ghana. The culture of corruption, thievery, laziness and incompetence must stop.

Complete and total BS!! ET is fully self funded. In fact, every year its coffers are under attack by the government who wants to use the profits (over $100M/year) to fund development. And then ask any financial institution if they are willing to lend it money and you will see the answer. Sure, if it were to run into trouble, it *may* get bailout from the Ethiopian government, but currently, it is a huge profit center.
So you are wayyyy off on this one.

ALL OTHER LEADERS WHO CAME AFTER HIM HAVE PROVEN WHY GH ELDERS DONT DESERVE AN IOTA OF RESPECT OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM ME OR ANY OTHER GH YOUTH, WOMAN OR CHILD. TODAY, LOOK AT THE LACK OF OPPORTUNITIES, LACK OF JOBS, TERRIBLE LIVING CONDITIONS FOR US THE YOUTHS, WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN GH? WE DONT EVEN HAVE A WOMEN OR CHILDREN HOSPITAL IN ANY PART OF THE COUNTRY. WAT DOES THE FUTURE BEHOLD FOR THE UNBORN GH CHILD?
NO ELDER, LEADER DESERVES AN IOTA OF RESPECT IN GH. THEY HAVE ALL FAILED US. TO THE YOUTH, WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN GH. I SAY SHAME THE ELDERS. SHAME OUR FATHERS. FOR THEY HAVE SOWN BAD, IRRESPONSIBLE ND UNCOUTH SEEDS NOT WORTH EMULATION. From 1957 independence to 2008 Ghana owed $9.5 billion in loans.
Within the last 3 years alone Ghana's debt has increased to $21.7 billion !!!
HMM HMM, Where did the $12.2 billion go? JOHN Dramani Mahama has used the nation as a security to purchase an Aircraft at the expense of
Tax Payers.
How can Dramani go out to borrow money $3 billion dolla
rs from the Chinese Government and use the money to buy an aircraft
for himself when our nation is suffering? SUCH PPL DONT DESERVE MY RESPECT|||: JJ RAWLINGS, AKWASI NYANTAKYI, HANNAH TETTEH, NANA KONADU, BETTY MOULD, KUFFOUR, OTUMFOUR, WOYOME, MAHAMA, ATO QUARSHIE, PV OBENG, TSIKATA, THE AHWOIS, KWADWO MPIANI, DUFFOUR, AFARI GYAN.....YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF USELESS MORONS. CANT U SEE THE DAMAGE YOUR GREED, SELFISHNESS AND LACK OF VISION AND INNOVATION HAS DONE TO OMAN GH? LOOK AT THE DESPAIR AND DISAPPOINTMENT ON THE FACES OF THE ORDINARY GH WOMAN, YOUTH AND CHILD? WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE UNBORN GH? YOU FOLKS OUGHT TO BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES.
Who APPOINTED AFARI GYAN?
With the exception of the NDC, did any other political party in the country had any hand in the selection of the composition of the Electoral Commission ?
I REFUSE TO RESPECT MY ELDERS. I DARE THEM TO TAKE THEIR STOLEN WEALTH TO THE GRAVE WITH THEM WHEN THEY DIE. USELESS BUNCH OF FOOLS! U PPL DONT DESERVE MY RESPECT OR THAT IF THE YOUTH AND CHILDREN IN GH. SHAME IN YOU!
WHEN YOU BELIEVE IN THINGS YOU DONT UNDERSTAND. THEN YOU WILL SUFFER FROM SUPERSTITION!

I MYSELF WOULD HAVE DEADED HIM A LONG TIME AGO.
The NDC government through the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) has dished out GHC15 Million to a privately-owned-and-managed Asongtaba Cottage Industry situated at Sumbrungu,
three kilometres from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to undertake Guinea Fowl project. As we speak, they have spent all the money but have only a total of six hundred (600) live birds plus
twenty (20) eggs, two old double-door-fridge-size incubators, a funny structure on a 200 x 300 feet piece of land to justify that horrendous capital outlay. What nonsense is this? What are
John Mahama and his government telling me? Are they that incomparably idiots and do they take all Ghanaians for imbeciles? Yet, we have some NDC activists residing overseas,
people like one Frank, Sly and Oboshie Trantram in London, always on air defending such obnoxious acts by their ignoble President and aimless NDC government.
this is who ghama is at 55 yrs:
OMAN GH IS LIKE A SON WHO LIVES IN THE BUSH, AN ALCOHOLIC WITH ONLY THE CLOTHES ON HIS BACK AT HIS PALM WINE TAPPING BUSINESS. WHO STILL EATS FROM HIS MOM'S HOME.
IS THIS A GH YOU WANT YOUR DAUGHTER TO MARRY? IS THIS A GH YOU WANT TO INVEST IN? IS THIS A GH YOU WANT AS A BONAFIED FRIEND/PARTNER IN CRIME? HELL NO!
WE MUST CHANGE OUR PRIMITIVE HABITS AND CHANGE IT FAST!
Professor James Tooley, Chairman of Omega Schools in collaboration with Ken Donkor, now runs low-cost private schools in Ghana.
It all sums up to the fact, that in the Absence of a Federal System where the individual states and the people are free to elect their Regional Ministers and
other Regional representatives to plan for their own Regional development without inferance of the President and the Central Government, anarchy and Bad governance
is the result and a reward for all.
WE NEED FREE BASIC EDUCATION IN GH FOR THE KIDDIES:

My intention was not to compare a dead Ghana Airways to Ethiopian just like that but to generate public discussion on our collapsing public institutions in Ghana! I believe Ghana Airways can be revived to do a better job if the government is serious and corruption as well as mismanagement of our public institutions cease! Today it is Ghana Airways! Tomorrow it may be Electricity Corporation or what have you!
Let's wake up to hold our governments responsible even about how they privatize our public institutions.
Thanks
