Most of us want to go thru life pretending what we are really not.
We're really sick and need some form of psycho analyses starting from the fake pastors to our politicians.

We hurriedly gained independent from the British but later, find out that ruling a nation requires more than just chest pounding and comical speech about taking our destiny into our own hands.
Just look at us and tell me if we are really independent.

To the writer of this article: I have been asking myself the same question concerning development of your country. It seems very true that your country is so full of natural resources and yet your population, your infrastructure, and yes even your schools are not up to standards as where you should be in a developing country. Is this because you are looking to government for the answers? From the outside looking in I see where your leaders cannot make up their minds if Ghana is going to follow a socialist path or a true democracy? Even here in the states our current President is trying to quote"Transform" America into what he believes we should be. I am sorry but I am not a socialist so I will never set still for this. If it were not for our Constitution, that this idiot we call President always tramples on, he would have succeeded. I digress but you see my point. Do you want free health care? Or could this be handled through private companies? Do you actually want the government to take care of you from the cradle to the grave? These are important questions and they need to be answered by you the people not your so called leaders. Remember, whatever you let the government do for you, later they will change it and do little of what they were suppose to. Rise up take control and start with schools. You were so right in what you were leading too in one statement of your article. Do not give them fish, but teach them how to fish and they will never go hungry. I wish you the best and I hope someday to visit your country. I love your women and I love what I have seen online with all the opportunities I see there. God Bless!!!!!

In as much as the Ewes have been mislead into committing various acts of atrocities against their fellow Ghanians mainly the Akans and therefore have become the curse of Ghana equally so have the Ashantis become the sorrow of the Akans with the likes of tribalist General Acheampong and kuffuour in their selfish greed and blatant disregard of the welfare of the rest of the non Ashanti Akans . we see the future in a confederation of 5 regions of Ghana with the fanti speaking central and western region being one entity , ashanti region another and the 3 northern regions a third and so on . these same ashanti boys were the ones who brought rawlings in 79 and 81 and today hold the country to ransom because of a conflict with the ewes about how much they could loot and steal from the rest of the nation . this conflict reflects in the perpetual antagonism of the npp and ndc denying us all the right and possibility to develope a country we can all be proud of . if the confederation doesnt work then we should all have the option of going our separate ways. today we see npp and ndc openly quarreling while the gurus continue behind the back door and under the table business as usual plundering the little that is left together with their corrupt civil service , a very sad situation indeed .

EACH NDC MEMBER IS ONLY OUT TO DUPE GHANA THRO FAIR AND FOUL MEANS WHENEVER POSSIBLE...WE ARE DEAD IN THEIR HANDS... Ghanaians have really become slaves in the hands of our own leaders. They think mainly about themselves and their families and not mother Ghana. What a pity!

@ Peter - you may be right: perhaps revolution is what Ghana needs. Demonstrations against the continuing plight of the Ghanaian citizen.

Thank you very much my brother , please send copies to Mahama and all the so called ministers and please add that if they don't wake up, the second coming of Rawlings would be worse than the first.

I wondered the same thing, after 56 years of independence what is there to celebrate... Absolutely nothing! Thanks for a good article Mr Oduro-Kyeremateng. You have said it all.

Brother Kofi, congratulations on your article. In fact you touched on some of the issues affecting the nation. There are others you did not mention and that is the culpability of Ghanaians themselves. They have caused this intentionally and unintentionally.
Intentionally because they see nothing wrong with doing the wrong things all the time; voting into office these crooks, thieves, heartless politicians who come around every four years and offer them bribes for votes and failing to think in the long-term.
Ghanaians have brought these calamities on themselves. About 98% of political leaders since 1981 have been heartless and useless; first among them were Rawlings and Kuffour who have plundered the nation of its resources and potentials. Professor Mills, to me wasn’t a politician; he was an academician and should have stayed in the academia. He wasn’t corrupt but weak and had no qualities of a politician.
Added to the above are our inability to see the machinations of the IMF World Bank and colonial powers to keep us impoverished by pretending to offer help but in disguise pushing us into further oblivion. Our educational system and exports have been rendered useless. Almost 95% of graduates of our institutions (JSS-University) are illiterates; cannot comprehend what goes on around them let alone see what is being perpetrated on them. Who caused this? The IMF and World Bank with the help of our ignorant leaders (Rawlings, Kwesi Botchwey, Joe Abbey etc) started the destruction of our nation. What did Kuffour do? To continue from where Rawlings left off; continuing the destruction of our nation. If Kuffour was a true patriotic Ghanaian he wouldn’t have sold certain institutions and not duped Ghanaians with his EO group of what belongs to the people. Our gold and oil have virtually been given out getting 3-5% from gold and 12% from oil. That is a big SHAME. Yet Ghanaians lack the temerity to bring our leaders to book. They rather reverence them. Ghanaians are even afraid to criticise leaders; from religious leaders to political leaders. Ghanaians should move away from NPP/NDC nonsense and vote for true leaders irrespective of political affiliation. Unless a political tsunami takes place in Ghana and institutions strengthened and empowered, the country will collapse in the next 8-12 years.
There is more to write but the more I write, the more I get sick and cry for my country.
