Sorry about your horrible experience. I think your father should not have been referred to Korle Bu in the first place. If he had lung cancer and was such that he couldn't even sit, then I believe you should have been told the plain truth that he was moribund and that going to Korle Bu wasn't going to change a thing. Such are some of the reasons why Korle Bu is congested.

Once there lived a family of a: wife, husband, son, daughter, and a cat. One day there was a man who was having trouble having sex with his wife, so one day he decided to call the doctor and get an explanation. The doctor told him to take two of these red colored pills a day and call him in a week. So he took them and to no prevail he still could not get it up. So he called the doctor and this time the doctor told him to take four pills a day. So he did. Still nothing. So the man decided to take the whole bottle. Later that week the doctor received a phone call, it was the man's son. He was screaming and yelling"Help! Help! My dad has gone crazy, my mom is dead, my sister's pregnant, my butt hurts and my dad is going around saying here kitty kitty.

Benedicta, I, like many others, sympathise with you for your sad loss. Clearly in the case of your father he had a terminal illness, and especially in such cases, we need to be more caring. I also agree that patient treatment is not always optimum in our hospitals (not just in Ghana but even in the United Kingdom). Recently, it has emerged that thousands of patients were ill-treated at a number of hospitals in a single health authority in England. Sure, health workers need to be more humane in their treatment of patients and their relatives, despite their heavy workloads and limited resources.
However I would caution you against taking anything you hear on radio or the media e.g. the Joy News story as the "gospel truth". The majority of our health workers do a fine job and are not paid nearly enough for all their hard work and we must applaud and support, instead of generalising about their failure to meet our expectations at all times.

The mafia NDC government in association with their Chinese and India criminals have taken control of the drug market with fake drugs and with criminal intention collapsed the once enviable NHIA system that the majority poor will have no choice but to go for the fake drugs that eventually kills the patient.
We really have demons and monsters in government right here in Ghana where nothing seems to work.
Ghana has become like a home without fatherly care and protection. Period!

Perhaps ambulances and personnel should be equipped to take care medical emergencies in every neighbourhood. People in the diaspora have the resources to initiate such moves. Remember your relatives.

Benedictta,
Thanks for sharing your experience with us, and am very sorry for the loss of your dad.
I live outside the country and have witnessed several deaths that shouldn't have occured. What I truly believe in, is each one of us, taking good care of ourselves by eating healthy food and excersice a lot, hoping that will prevent some of these unfortunate illnesses.
Trust me sometimes these doctors do not even know what they are doing and it's a matter of trial and error. I work in the healthcare field and have seen a lot of murder going on out there. Just a few days ago, on the news in the (US) there was a documentary on one of the diabetics medication that has ended up in giving hearth attacks as a side effect. The company producing the meds knew about the side effects and kept quiet about it due to profits. You can imagine how many deaths has occured.
But what can you do, patient are in so much pain they will take just anything to relief the pain. Due to what I have seen, I would rather die peacefully than to go for all these drugs, and end up dying anyway. What's the point.
I walk a lot and just ask yourself, if what you are about to eat will help give you the nutrition and energy that you need. Just think before you put anything in your stomach. It is very sad, I see people paying an arm and a leg for treatment and ending up loosing their lifes. It's all about excersing and eating healthy food with lots of plain fluids.
Doctors are not Gods, they can help out at times, but we need to take our lives in our hands by making healthy choices or we end up paying for the consequences
Anyway, thanks for sharing and lets hope for the best.
Regards,
Ebony
