Why not build it along the coast in the Fanti Region about 50 or so miles away from Accra? Doesn't that make more sense ? Aside frm Nkrumah, none of our leaders are worth a pesewa.

I find it so disheartening that we still people like you in Ghana . You are one of them people so blinded by deep seated hatred for other tribes that you fail to think with your brains.
What is wrong with the writer's suggestion? Don't forget Accra is not Ghana and Ghana is not Accra.
There should be uniform development across the country irrespective of who lives where. That is the only way forward. Major economic project should be spread across the country in a strategic sense.
Have you ever travelled across the Atlantic and the Mediterranean before? Just have a look at how project sprinkled all over the big cries. Can't you fathom they have reasons for doing that? Well, I will leave that to you.
Accra cannot be the administrave politics, industrial and commercial capital at the same time. What happens if disaster struck? Let me enlighten you a bit here from your ignorance mr shak. In Countries like Switzerland , Holland, Germany, Japan,America and Canada their Capitals are purely for administrative purposes. They have therefore made sure of sound infrastructural, industrial development of their other regions to ensure a well balance development of their country and people without recourse to tribalism and all that nonsense postulated by you and some people. Of the same tribal bigotry .
Mr Shak if you think of the total development of motet Ghana , then have the decency to congratulate the writer for highlighting some shortfalls of our leaderships rather than insulting him.

First, Kufuor I congratulate you on your excellent write up. However, by bringing in tribal sentiments you spoiled a very fine article. Unfortunately you were joined by others who have not got the facts of Ghana's history on planning.
I am pretty sure you may not know the existence of Ghana's initial 7 years Development Plan, put into place by the very first Government just after independence. Which has woefully been ignored by successive governments after Dr Nkrumah was overthrown. This aided by the so called Danquah/Busia tradition, which is NPP now.
I want to take you briefly through history. When Dr Nkrumah came into power, he embarked on industrialising the whole country. He thus built whole lot of industries around the Regions, with no part left out. The first government airports at Accra, Kumasi, Takoradi, Sunyani and Tammle. And indeed many factories in all these regions.
Not only that but he built Housing Estates too in these regions and schools, colleges and hospitals. Also including houses for the Security Services. So can we both ask ourselves where all these infrastructures gone? If you can assiduously trace all previous governments actions and inactions, I am certain you will find to your amazement what has happened.
The African problem is that when they are in opposition then they have to oppose everything or projects the Government in power proposes. Yes, you clearly shared your anxiety because it is not proper for a good graduate like you after hard work to come out without a job waiting for you. The real fault lies with the past Governments with vision less leaders. Looking around the whole country you will realized that all the existing infrastructure were built by Dr Nkrumah in his time. Of course with exception of few new roads constructed when Rawlings was in power. Ashanti and other Regions had their fair share of development projects. If Nkrumah had not fought the then Opposition, which is NPP now to build Akosombo, VRA, Job 600 and other heavy projects how will have Ghana succeeded now.
Turning to the 7 Year Development Plan put in place by Dr Nkrumah, there were Bui Dam project, Prampram International Airport, River Volta Transport projects and others which you can find out if you so wish to. I must emphasis here that due to lack of infrastructure in Ghana, International investors will not come into Ghana to create urgent needed jobs that Ghanaian graduates like yourself so much deserve. The one main project that the country needs urgently is the Prampram International Airport. The obvious reason is that Aircraft sizes have increase immensely and therefore serious businessmen or investors most of the time heads to countries that accommodate their needs.
A typical example is Ethiopia, where their international airport has been enlarged to take on larger crafts. Besides the country has an efficient running Airline. Now the crucial question I want you to ask yourself and others who are questioning the siting of Prampram airport, why has Ghana after 56 years of independence cannot boast of an airline? And just to compare itself with Ethiopia? What a disgraced country.
Did not Dr Nkrumah left the country Regional Airports, Ghana Airways, Ghana Shipping Line, Ghana Railways, State Housing Corporation, State Transport Corporation, GIHOC, Ashanti Gold Mining, Bauxite Mining company, and many other factories for any other manufacturing you can think of. Oh do not forget TV and Textile factories. You see my dear Kufuor, the NPP and their co-opes in the Military just destroyed everything Dr Nkrumah did for Ghana, no amount of cries NPP executives will cry out the Ghanaian now is highly educated and they cannot be continued to be fooled any longer.
When Ghana had independence, countries such as China, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, India, Indonesia and many others cannot be compared to Ghana. To confirm everything I have said I personally had Uni education at KNUST. What happened, two weeks I finished writing my my papers I had a job and no where else than Kumasi, Asukwa, though I was only in Ghana for my Uni education. This particular company was a foreign one.
My last word or advice to you is unless Ghanaians start thinking about what we in the developed countries called BIPARTISAN the country will remain as it is. Remove all tribal sentiments from your conversations and discussions as always happens on Radio with panelists.

We need an independent organization to do a feasibility study to determine the best location for a new international airport. The local airports such as in Tamale, Kumasi etc. should certainly be further developed if not adequate; for easy access to the North and the interior parts of Ghana, not sure though without a study if any of those local airports need to be expanded for the purpose of international use.
My personal opinion and no I am not from the area is that the Western region seems to be growing very fast in terms of investments due to the oil and so may also be a good site, but again I am saying this just as an observer without proper data or a study, so really means nothing.

I agree somehow with the writer about the urgent need to decentralise but certainly Kumasi airport will not be my choice as the alternative to KIA.Kumasi airport hasn't got enough space if we need to expand it.The present location is just like KIA - in the middle of the city. In most advance countries new airports are located away from residential areas. My ideal location will be Kintampo, Sunyani or Mampong whilst we refurbish the Kotoka,Kumasi and Tamale airports to take care of domestic flights. It is very disapponting that at this age of our development we have to locate every government project in Accra. The Nigerians saw the problem in the 1990s and relocated their capital to Abuja. If we cannot do that then there is the urgent need to relocate some of the ministries and other government establishments to the other regions to relieve Accra of its numerous problems.
I totally disagree with the writer of his federalist ideas. Please don't go there.

Strategically located? Are you serious? Tamale International Airport doesn't make any economic sense at this time of our development. Nobody from Ashanti Region, Brong Ahafo region and parts of Central region are going to travel to Tamale International Airport. More than 60% of all international travellers come from Ashanti and Brong Ahafo region with less than 5% coming from the three Northern regions. Tamale International Airport if constructed will be a failure because only people from the three Northern Regions and a small percentage from Brong Ahafo will go through that Airport.
Tamale International Airport might be politically correct but it will be an economic disaster.

Tribal politics is not new to Ghana and it will forever stay this way.It takes courage for any leader to distribute the national reshen oures equally because the party in power turns to favor its constituency but then turn their back on their world bank[AshantiandVolta] hence the parallel distribution of scarce resources.I beg to differ here i domt think Kumasi need an international airport but Accra does then kotoka will become a national airport.Kotoka in its current form is below international standard.I think what Ghana need is a blue print will guide the country to prosperity barring who is in office with specific goals either than that we are joking.Hope Ghanaians will challenge their government.
