I agree with most written in this article. We have one of the best traffic laws in place, but the police is just harrassing people for expired licences, stickers etc. because that is where the money is. they don't check anything about road safety, they don't sack hawkers, allow motorbikes to jump traffic lights, leave trootroo and taxis without side mirrors, allow them to stop anywhere etc. I think we can cancel parlaiment (our lawmakers) because the law is judged and according to the police daily needs interpreted. I think we can also sack half our judges, because the allmighty police officer decides how much your cash penalty is depending on his needs that moment.
Police, lawmaker, law maintainer and judge on the spot.

Johnny. Come to Kororidua and see for yourself. No order no law. Everyone does what they like. U have stated the facts, but we don't have the guts to implement such a plan

Ghanaian drivers in western countries have stellar driving records. They know the hammer will fall on their heads, if they misbehave.
In GH, no one is punished; You're supposed to Give it to God'. Everyone is always pleading for mercy and they are always 'forgiven', and that's the problem.
Punish them disproportionately and this nonsense stops overnight.
Jump a red light, pay 1000 GH. If you can't afford it, the car is auctioned. Motorcyclist jumps lights, pay 1000gh. Can't afford it, bike is auctioned. It will stop in a week!!!

I visited Ghana about 5 years ago. I was in a taxi travelling from Legon to Accra during the rush hour. After we passed under the overpass at Tetteh Quarshie, traffic came to a stand still. Why? The motorcade of the president was coming on the left side from Accra, the side opposite to the direction of normal traffic flow. I could not believe my eyes.

Bro keep up the fight to correct the wrongs of all of Ghana and not Accra and or Spintex road alone. Kudos anyway for the write up.

The City of London generates millions of pounds in traffic fines. Why can't our lazy governments learn from developed countries? The revenue could help develop our third world infrastructure.

Once again we have a police traffic unit which targets easy prey (drivers) to extort money from them. Can something be done? Yes. Is Ghana police ready to tackle indiscipline on our roads? No, what a shame!

I come here to Accra from Australia to visit my wife and daughter and every time I get into a cab I fear for my life. In my country emergency vehicles are given priority not any odiot coming the other way with hazards on and flashing head lights. We have very strict road laws and very strict penalties that govern them. The undisciplined driving habits here are appaling to see and I prefer tostay in my unit than to venture outside and to spend money also. Those embassy people that can secure police escorts so they can rush to their office in their great cruisers driving at speeds on the wrong side of the road their job is so important to risk the lives of others plus waste badly needed police that duties could be performed else where. I was here for the anniversary celebrations and seen the parades of police and other enforcement agencies it was very impressive but not seeing these agencies out on the roads is very unimpressive. It is nothing to put police at traffic lights to do random licence checks and vehicle checks. There will be more and more carnage here unless some one gets up and does something about it and keep doing it. Until that happens road deaths will just become normal way of life here.
