How come the arable lands of Afram plains in Eastern region that used to be part of Volta region belongs to Kumawuhene?

The final defeat of the Asantes in the VR littoral came with the Sagrenti War. Had it not been for the British, the Akans would have been wiped out from the VR. Where they are now, btw, is not Ewe territory but Buem and tribes territory. Buem and those tribes are not Ewes. In any case, the peace agreement signed precludes the Asantehene from claiming any suzerainty over that area and what is happening now is an anomaly. My own great, great, grandfather was present in prime when those agreements were forged at Dzelukope in 1974. I've the evidence in a sketch I can let you have.

Come and see how she twisted her nose when I asked what about an Asante man in my halting Twi mixed with English! "Annnona the best," she managed in her very little English! So you see, Asante women just prefer to marry now outside the tribe, as they don't fancy their own men, thinking they are second best! My own experiences fully support that view. Years back, we used to say among ourselves, if you wooed an Anlo girl and she agreed to come to visit you, you have to woo her again to stand from the chair or sofa to sit on your bed. Then you have to woo her again to remove her dresses and lie down! By then, man don tired! Try an Akan, esp an Asante, no hassle at all. She comes fully prepared, preventive already even taken care of and heads straight to to the bed! Phew! So there are many dynamics behind the spate of intermarriages since the mid-1980s.

When I said I don't hate the Asantes but only is opposed to the NPP, being an Nkrumaist, he said in much anger that he hated them and I didn't know what the Asantes were like. He mentioned a number tribes that share borders with the Asantes - Sefwis, etc. - and said that if I heard what the Asantes said even about them and I am one, I'd go and hang myself! Phew! He was frothing at the mouth and since customers are always right, and I had sufficient clues as to what he meant, I had to shut up. In fact, I even got a field report of what he meant when I was collecting data for my dissertation and was taken to a branch of the Amanano Rural Bank, Nyinahin, across the Western Region border in Bibiani. Yeah! I heard a bit about the tensions created with its opening and operations, since they claimed they were there to service Asante migrant cocoa farmers there, and what the Asantes thought of the local against people. I'll keep that to myself. And haven't I heard all the crap over the years, since the 1960s directed at Ewes? This article, full of ignorant claims, therefore simply reinforces that crap and grounds for detesting and hating Asantes. It completely negates its objective of decrying and stopping some people allegedly from hating Asantes. It is absolute "crapology", as a friend puts this kind of uneducated vitriol, full of false and inaccurate claims and demeaning references to others. You spread it and it boomerangs on you and you come back to mourn?! Where were you when your Assin-Foso party member was calling on Asantes to do the dirty job of beating up and killing others, specifically Ewes and Gas??? And, I may ask: where was Haruna then? I am not holding brief for him. Did he speak out then in the heat of the Agyapong exhortation to mayhem?
I am on record as having the enviable record of being the first to really confront those Asantes and their hangers-on from other Akan groups when they brought their putrid Ewe demonisation and vilification to cyberspace in the early '90s. But I don't hate Asantes! I am amused by them rather and even pity them! One thing I know is that those who purvey such views are extremely ignorant of Asante history. And I know for a fact that proper Asante royals and others who are informed and knew Asante history and other tribes well don't indulge in that putrid ethnic vilification, esp. of Ewes. Rather, they are embarrassed by it. In fact, some hold out Ewes as role models to their children, like my course colleague who made me to go and greet the retired father in Kumasi when on field work in the Ash/R because he said his father never ceased to tire them about Ewe colleagues from his UAC working days during the pre-colonial days and how they advanced themselves and their children.
I also know that they (informed and enlightened Asantes) don't know how to tackle it, just as the so-called Ewe elite and leaders don't have a clue how to respond to or tackle the demonisation directed at Ewes. I lead in that direction for both - Asantes and Ewes alike! Really? You see, what nobody knows is that, at the time I was writing, I was communicating very closely with my former Legon mate and Univ. of Bergen Dept colleague, the late Dr Francis Kwame Appiah, grandson of the NLM mojo himself, linguist to the Asantehene, Baffour Akoto. That constrained me a lot in what I write, already constrained by the fact that my Anlo history and actions of the past is closely interwoven with Asante history and actions in at least the present VR. When I veered too much into dangerous territory, he'd fired me a mail. If someone said anything wrong about Asantes, I had the task of correcting that too, thus defending Asantes some thought I was attacking. I only stand for telling the truth as it was, how unpalatable that it is, which even some Ewe elders find difficult to say openly. Whenever I dropped into the Dept from my student research assistantship office at CMI, I'd go and sit with Francis to have a long chat about the exchanges on Okyeame. Thus, he was the one who copied the two books of Kofi Awoonor and showed me the long article Osee Poku wrote about why and how Gen. Afrifa was killed, putting the blame squarely on the shoulders of Osahene Boakye Djan. Yes, so the proper Asante elite knew that Rawlings even tried to save the life of Afrifa, as some of us found out a few days after the shouting. The joke on Legon campus was that he was given the chance by the Other Ranks to stand besides those about to be shot that day!
Having written so much so far, I think I should commence with my long delayed exposure of the facts behind the ethnic imbroglio in Ghana. I might even re-write this piece into a full rejoinder to this crap.

Some of us are sick and tired of hearing that Asantes are feeding us and we are parasites on them, as if we don't work, have cocoa farms in the VR too and line up for Asantes to feed us daily and cloth and house us. We are tired of being told daily that we are Togolese (I wrote an article to debunk that but it still continues). We are tired of the daily insults and demonisation for taking all the top jobs in Ghana, all the scholarships, enjoying all the goodies of the state but in the same breath being told that we are inferior and jealous and envious of them - for what, I don't know! That the stats, according to the Regional Director of the Health service in the VR, shows that 70% of the health in the country are of VR origins but even people from the VR refused posting to the region, thereby creating chronic shortage of health personnel in the VR, worse than even the 3 northern regions???

I had written so much about that call to kill Ewes on Okyeame in the 1990s, some of those calls said to my face. I had heard it all in Nigeria in the 1980s, including the ones they thought I couldn't understand! Their mentality was incredible! They even pretentiously tried to seek permission from me to kill some Ewes like Nigerians did to the Ibos in order to remove their dominance in the 1960s. Man Fathers 9 Kids With Daughter, Pleads For Forgiveness
Agbofa Yao Hateka, the 47-year-old fetish priest who fathered nine kids with daughter has pleaded with a Sogakope circuit court to forgive him his sins as he would not do it again.
He has so far made two appearances in the Sogakokpe Circuit Court for having nine children with his daughter, four of whom were dead.
Agbofa Yao Hateka was in the Sogakope court on 12th and 13th July charged with incest. According to the prosecutor, inspector Emmanuel Atsor, the case was reported to the Dabala Police by a certain Torgbey Sekpetey II, chief of Ashagborkope, who is also a tax collector. The complainant told the police on June 7th 2012 that the accused was married to his biological daughter, Baby Hateka with whom he has nine kids. Yao Hateka allegedly impregnated Baby and subsequently had eight other children with her. Out of the lot, there were now five kids aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half old. During the interrogation however, Baby Hateka told the police she had eight other children with her father out of which three died, contradicting the accused person’s narration that he had only a two year old baby with his daughter.
The accused would not allow anybody to intervene as he allegedly threatened people with death if they meddled in his sexual relationship with his daughter. He allegedly threatened to invoke the spirit of his gods to deal with meddlers. The accused told the court that he was both a farmer and a fisherman, although the prosecution witness claimed he was unemployed. Before his arrest, the accused told the police that his daughter suffered from sickle cell anaemia, and had come to stay with him from a cocoa-growing area. Torgbey Sekpetey II had earlier fined the accused a fowl so his daughter could be cleansed before reporting the matter to the police. The case has been adjourned to 20th July 2012 for judgement.**

A 40-year-old welder; Emmanuel Kwesi Yevu, who is accused of defiling his 13-year-old daughter blamed his action on “juju,” (magic) when he made his second appearance before a Circuit Court in Accra.
Yevu told the court that somebody had cast a spell on him because he was getting more customers in his carpentry business.
When the court asked why he defiled his daughter, Yevu said: “My Lord the thing came on me in a spiritual form. I sometimes dream that I am sleeping with my late wife. I took in some alcohol on the day in question before going to bed. I detected that my daughter had placed her legs on mine and I mistook her to be that of my late wife and I defiled her.”
This, according to Yevu, had had happened on two occasions. Yevu, who is charged with defilement and incest pleaded guilty. But just as the court was about to hand down Yevu’s sentence, his brother raised his hands saying he had sometime to say.
Yevu’s brother told the court that Yevu had confided in him that somebody had cast a spell on him and blamed his action on “juju.”
The court presided over by Mrs Justice Georgina Mensah-Datsa however sentenced Yevu to 10 years on each of the charges. The sentences would however run concurrently.
The court told Yevu that it only had power to deal with the charges brought against him adding: “You can pursue the juju case at the juju court.” Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sarah Acquah told the court that the complainant was the victim’s uncle.
Yevu is the father of the victim. Since the death of the victim’s mother, she had been living with the father at Omanjor in Accra. ASP Acquah said during October 2011, the victim was sleeping when Yevu forced her and had sex with her on two occasions.
After the acts, the victim informed her father that she had not menstruated for the past three months.
ASP Acquah said Yevu knowing very well that the victim was pregnant, gave the victim medicine to swallow and insert some of the medicine into her vagina.
Soon after inserting the medicine, the victim began to complain of abdominal pains and she was rushed to the hospital and a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit at the Odorkor Police station.
The victim was issued with a medical form while her father was arrested by the Police and during interrogation he admitted the offence.

Felix Torgbor, the 45-year-old mason who fathered a child with his own daughter.
A 45 year old mason has been arrested in Accra for forcibly having an affair with his daughter and subsequently, having a baby with her.
“You are very stupid! Which is better? Sleeping with my daughter or running after other women who could infect me with strange diseases which I could also pass on to you?”
These are the shocking words of Felix Torgbor, a 45-year-old mason from La, who was caught by his wife having sex with his 19-year-old daughter.
Apparently, Torgbor began having sex with his daughter when she was only 16 years old; broke her virginity and subsequently had a child with her. He is now in the grips of the Odorkor Police in Accra.
Torgbor’s three-year-old sexual affair finally came to an end when his wife caught him red-handed making love to his daughter in an uncompleted building on the dawn of Saturday August 15, at Russia, a suburb of Accra.
Salamatu, Torgbor’s wife, told DAILY GUIDE that she wakes up very early in the morning, goes to work and returns at 7:00pm.
On that fateful day, she returned from visiting her sister at about 10:00pm on Friday night. She called her husband to join her watch an African movie shown on TV, but he declined and kept moving up and down.
She then began wondering what was making her husband so jittery.
According to her, the TV station closed down around 12:00 midnight, so she went to bed.
At about 12:45am, she woke up to realize that her husband and daughter were not in bed so she went out in search of them.
Salamatu indicated that her husband is putting up a building which is just a distance from the family house where they live, so she had a strong urge to go there to search for them.
When she got there, she saw that her step-daughter had laid a piece of cloth on the floor of one of the rooms and she saw a man lying on top of her.
She yelled and held unto the man only to realize it was her husband who was moaning and groaning on top of his own daughter.
Salamatu said she could not believe that this abominable act was going on right under her nose for the past three years.
When she demanded answers from her husband, he called her a stupid woman.
“You are very stupid! Which is better? Sleeping with my daughter or running after other women who could infect me with strange diseases which I could also pass on to you?” he asked, threatening to beat her up if she shouted.
Salamatu says she raised an alarm, drawing people to the scene.
Speaking to DAILY GUIDE, District Crime Officer (DCO), DSP Bafour Appenteng said the affair between father and daughter started somewhere in 2006 when she was dressing after bathing.
Narrating the sequence of events, the DCO said it started when the grandmother of the victim observed that her pubic hair had not been shaved. She questioned the teenager who replied that she was scared the razor blade might harm her.
Her grandmother, thereafter, sent her to buy a razor blade so she could shave the hair off, but by the time she got back, her grandmother was asleep.
On reaching home, her father, who was then eavesdropping on the conversation, asked what she was going to use the razor blade for.
She explained what the grandmother had said.
Torgbor then insisted on shaving his daughter’s pubic hair, in spite of her resistance.
According to the victim, her father laid her on his matrimonial bed and shaved her pubic hair after which he forcibly had sexual intercourse with her.
No amount of pleading could stop Torgbor from carrying out his intentions, and he had sex with her on the blind side of his wife, Salamatu Piaga.
The girl emerged from the room in tears and because her legs were wobbling, her aunties, who lived in the same compound house, asked what was wrong and she revealed to them that her father had just had sex with her.
According to the police, the aunties explained that at the time of the incident, the family was bereaved and so they decided to meet on the matter after the burial of their kin but later forgot all about it, and even though Salamatu was informed about the incident, she chose not to pursue it.
When she quizzed her husband about the incident, he got mad and subjected the child to severe beatings, saying that she wanted to disgrace him.
Later, when the girl turned 17, she got pregnant and left to stay with her biological mother at Osu because her father was furious, claiming his daughter had a boyfriend and subjected her to severe beatings, even though she was pregnant for him at the time.
At Osu, she reported the incident to WAJU but her mother, who did not believe her claims, abandoned the case after receiving a police medical form.
When the teenager gave birth in April last year, her stepmother, Salamatu, went for her from the Ridge Hospital where she delivered a baby girl and brought her back to her father’s house with the intention of caring for her and the baby.
The Crime Officer said when the baby was nine months old, Torgbor, who was eager to re-ignite his sexual relationship with his biological daughter, forced her to stop breast-feeding the baby, which she did.
They continued with the affair until the dawn of Saturday August 15, 2009 when Salamatu grabbed the two seriously making love.
Subsequently, Salamatu packed her belongings out of the house but did not report the matter to the police until her husband was arrested on August 18, 2009, by the Odorkor police who invited her to write her statement.
The victim, who was cuddling her daughter when she spoke to DAILY GUIDE on Thursday, confirmed that the baby, an exact replica of Torgbor, was indeed her father’s daughter.
She told DAILYGUIDE she wishes her father would be kept in jail forever.
Ho, May 13, GNA - Daniel Gadzeti, a carpenter, was sentenced to five years imprisonment by a Ho circuit court on Tuesday for being in an incestuous relationship with his 19-year-old daughter Mabel Gadzeti, a seamstress apprentice.
Mr Frank Owusu Afriyie, the presiding judge, deferred sentence on Mabel Gadzeti until after medical tests for pregnancy and sex related diseases.
Mr Afriyie described the conduct of Gadzeti, a father of four, as "very irresponsible". Deputy Superintendent of Police Kwadwo Nkansah told the court that Gadzeti, who was staying at Nkonya-Ntumda, invited his daughter who was staying with her mother at Nkonya-Tayi to come over and stay with him. He said Gadzeti the n started having sexual intercourse with his daughter. Mr Nkansah said a friend of Gadzeti once visited him and saw him (Gadzeti) and his (Gadzeti's) daughter bathing together and asked him if he was having sexual relationship with her. He said Gadzeti took offence and reported the matter to the chief of Nkonya-Ntumda who summoned the friend before the traditional court which fined him to compensate Gadzeti because the friend had no evidence to support his case. About a year later Gadzeti confessed his incestuous relationship to his uncle, a catechist, and expressed his desire to perform customary rites to marry her and make her his second wife in addition to her mother.
He said Gadzeti's uncle informed the chief of the town and Gadzeti's wife and daughter were summoned before the chief and elders of the town. A fine was imposed on Gadzeti and his daughter which they paid. He said a few days later, information about their relationship got to the police leading to their arrest.Source:

Man Jailed For Impregnating Daughter
An Accra High Court has sentenced Mr Anthony Bleworda to five (5) years imprisonment for having sex with her daughter since she was 16 years old and fathering with her five children, three of whom have since died. Mr Bleworda admitted that he had a strong urge to sleep with his own 16-year-old daughter the first day he saw her after several year’s sojourn abroad.
The daughter, identified as Matilda Bleworda, who is now in her mid twenties, is reported to have later developed mental health problems. Speaking to Peace FM and the Domestic Violence And Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), Matilda disclosed that she willingly gave in to his father’s sexual advances the first day she saw him because her father enticed her with lots of money, but the subsequent encounters were all against her will. An earlier medical report had revealed that Matilda had indeed developed mental problems. She however stressed to Peace FM in an interview that she has now been completely cured.
She added that she did not know in the beginning that Mr. Bleworda was her real father. She believed instead that her grandfather whom she had known since her infancy was. According to her she asked the father to stop sleeping with her but he refused, claiming she was married to him by virtue of their having children together.
In an interview with Peacefmonline, the spokesperson for DOVVSU, Inspector Irene Oppong confirmed that Mr Bleworda has been sentenced for 5 years imprisonment. In answer to querries about why the seemingly minimal nature of the punishment, Inspector Oppong said the court took into account the girl’s admission that she was 16 years old when her father first slept with her and also that she consented to the act for which reason he couldn’t be charged with rape.
She explained that the stipulated sentencing range for incest for which Mr. Bleworda was found guilty is between 3 to 25 years. She explained that it took the court this long to dispose of the case because the man was having health issues midway into his prosecution. Peace FM managed to secure a major scoop and broke the scandal to a horrified country in September of last year.

A 47-year-old farmer who fathered five children with his biological daughter is in the grips of the law.
Yao Hatekah impregnated his daughter, known as Baby, when she was 11 years old and subsequently had children aged 14, 12, 3, 2 and a month-and-a-half-old with her.
Hatekah, who pleaded guilty to the charge of incest on June 20, 2012, changed his plea to not guilty when he reappeared before the Sogakope Circuit Court Wednesday.
According to him, he had one child with his daughter and was not responsible for her other children.
The court, subsequently, remanded him to reappear on July 12, 2012.
Prosecuting, Inspector Emmanuel Atsor of the Sogakope Police told the court that Hatekah began having an affair with his daughter after his wife died.
His alleged incestuous act was brought to the attention of the police by the Chief of Gonu Ashiagborkorpe, near Dabala in the South Tongu District in the Volta Region, TorgbeSekpetey II.
It said the residents of the community had known of Hatekah’s incestuous act all these years but were afraid of him because of his threat to kill anybody who dared to criticise him.**

You forget also that cocoa is grown in the Volta region (you must be poor and naive in Geography)and it was/is even the settlers who did the cocoa farming and not your absentee parents of yours (Read Ahin, the Economic Development). These folks live in the past - a parallel universe filled with tribalism,superstition,ignorance, false hegemonistic sentiments and high resistance to change and new ideas.In essence,they comprise the worst form of paleoconservatives in Ghana and in the continent.
And worse for Ghana/Africa,the educated leaderships are the ones fanning the flames of ethnocentricity,tribal politics and ethnic wars that have devastated or are desrtoying societies in Africa.
If the writer had lifted his eyes further past his nose,he would have seen that there are many Asante families in the metropolitan areas of Accra,Tamale,Cape Coast and Sekondi-Takoradi,who have lived in these places for generations - and also without ethnic wars.Let this tribalistic fool check out Asante MPs from some of these areas.
To set the record straight,Western Region(the richest in Ghana)contributes more to Ghana's economy than any region in Ghana.And the cocoa farm laborers,kayayes,"chop bar" assistants,Wamzams,carpenters and watchmen,have made HUGE contributions to the economic wellbeing and modernization of Kumasi and Ashanti as a whole.

This article, indeed, contains everything why some have a strong detest, and even hatred, for some Asantes of the NLM/UP/PP/NPP tradition, or Asantes in general, as one Nzema guy insisted he does not long ago in an encounter in my shop. When I said I don't hate the Asantes but only is opposed to the NPP, being an Nkrumaist, he said in much anger that he hated them and I didn't know what the Asantes were like. He mentioned a number tribes that share borders with the Asantes - Sefwis, etc. - and said that if I heard what the Asantes said even about them and I am one, I'd go and hang myself! Phew! He was frothing at the mouth and since customers are always right, and I had sufficient clues as to what he meant, I had to shut up. In fact, I even got a field report of what he meant when I was collecting data for my dissertation and was taken to a branch of the Amanano Rural Bank, Nyinahin, across the Western Region border in Bibiani. Yeah! I heard a bit about the tensions created with its opening and operations, since they claimed they were there to service Asante migrant cocoa farmers there, and what the Asantes thought of the local against people. I'll keep that to myself. And haven't I heard all the crap over the years, since the 1960s directed at Ewes? This article, full of ignorant claims, therefore simply reinforces that crap and grounds for detesting and hating Asantes. It completely negates its objective of decrying and stopping some people allegedly from hating Asantes. It is absolute "crapology", as a friend puts this kind of uneducated vitriol, full of false and inaccurate claims and demeaning references to others. You spread it and it boomerangs on you and you come back to mourn?! Where were you when your Assin-Foso party member was calling on Asantes to do the dirty job of beating up and killing others, specifically Ewes and Gas??? And, I may ask: where was Haruna then? I am not holding brief for him. Did he speak out then in the heat of the Agyapong exhortation to mayhem?
I am on record as having the enviable record of being the first to really confront those Asantes and their hangers-on from other Akan groups when they brought their putrid Ewe demonisation and vilification to cyberspace in the early '90s. But I don't hate Asantes! I am amused by them rather and even pity them! One thing I know is that those who purvey such views are extremely ignorant of Asante history. And I know for a fact that proper Asante royals and others who are informed and knew Asante history and other tribes well don't indulge in that putrid ethnic vilification, esp. of Ewes. Rather, they are embarrassed by it. In fact, some hold out Ewes as role models to their children, like my course colleague who made me to go and greet the retired father in Kumasi when on field work in the Ash/R because he said his father never ceased to tire them about Ewe colleagues from his UAC working days during the pre-colonial days and how they advanced themselves and their children.
I also know that they (informed and enlightened Asantes) don't know how to tackle it, just as the so-called Ewe elite and leaders don't have a clue how to respond to or tackle the demonisation directed at Ewes. I lead in that direction for both - Asantes and Ewes alike! Really? You see, what nobody knows is that, at the time I was writing, I was communicating very closely with my former Legon mate and Univ. of Bergen Dept colleague, the late Dr Francis Kwame Appiah, grandson of the NLM mojo himself, linguist to the Asantehene, Baffour Akoto. That constrained me a lot in what I write, already constrained by the fact that my Anlo history and actions of the past is closely interwoven with Asante history and actions in at least the present VR. When I veered too much into dangerous territory, he'd fired me a mail. If someone said anything wrong about Asantes, I had the task of correcting that too, thus defending Asantes some thought I was attacking. I only stand for telling the truth as it was, how unpalatable that it is, which even some Ewe elders find difficult to say openly. Whenever I dropped into the Dept from my student research assistantship office at CMI, I'd go and sit with Francis to have a long chat about the exchanges on Okyeame. Thus, he was the one who copied the two books of Kofi Awoonor and showed me the long article Osee Poku wrote about why and how Gen. Afrifa was killed, putting the blame squarely on the shoulders of Osahene Boakye Djan. Yes, so the proper Asante elite knew that Rawlings even tried to save the life of Afrifa, as some of us found out a few days after the shouting. The joke on Legon campus was that he was given the chance by the Other Ranks to stand besides those about to be shot that day!
Having written so much so far, I think I should commence with my long delayed exposure of the facts behind the ethnic imbroglio in Ghana. I might even re-write this piece into a full rejoinder to this crap.

BTW, if we take out the 33% estimated to be of slave origins amongst the Asantes, there are more Ewes in Ghana alone than Asantes in the world! If you include the people of slave origins, the total Asante pop. is just about 2% more than Ewes in Ghana alone, not counting Togo, Benin and Nigeria!

I must commend the NDC propaganda machinery though, because of the way they have managed to break the Akan front, in their effort to pitch other non-ashanti Akans against the ashanti. They knew they could never win elections with only volta and the north. so they had to find a way to break the akan front. and the only way to do it was to trumpet ashantis as all the usual insults you hear. In akan, we say "Onipa mama ho ye ahi" to wit a noble man exhudes envy. And that is exactly what is happening. As you work hard trying to improve your lot in life, others are sitting down planning how to destroy you. And take it for a fact, the Ewes and Northerners themselves are afraid of their own kith and kind. They will get rid of you as soon as they see you making any meaningful progress they cannot make. That is why they choose to settle in Accra and Kumasi when they become a little prosperous, intead of going back home to help their own people. How else would they need to enjoy free education for over 50 years. And still have nothing to show for it up north. Still depending on Government hand-outs. The truth is hard to hear. I have lived and taught in many African countries. Each country has a tribe or a class that emerges outstanding out of the rest of the different tribes, class or groups.
In Nigeria, the tribe 'Yurobas' are dis-liked by most Nigerians. They are said to be arrogant and stubborn.
'The British' are also described as arrogant by the rest of the world.
I have realized that most of these unfounded accusations stem from the fact that, these group of people , class or tribe, have a rich history and the envy and jealousy from others, who do not, breed these hatred and animosity.
Asantes are of no exception.
I will not agitate for war and neither would I suggest reciprocity nor retaliation.
what I can deduce here is the hidden unfathomed wisdom of our old political leaders and fore-bearers, who for-saw what the future had in store for the Asantes, and were therefore, calling or agitating for 'Federalism'or 'federal state' for Asantes as opposed to 'unitarianism' or 'unitary state' and which people at that time of corrupt minds mis-interpreted it to mean UNITED PARTY (UP) which stood for 'Matemeho'.
Besides what I will suggest is to forgive but not to forget, because it is only a fool who will easily forgive and forget, but rather, to 'wet our sponges' with the admonition that all Asantes and Akans for that matter, should try as much as possible, to educate all their children, because, it is only 'Knowledge that wields power".
After-all, we are all Ghanaians with one destiny.

My brother, the problem with us (Asantes) is; we haven't had a leader since the 1950s and at the same time had been sleeping at the wheel - we have to blame ourselves for our stupidity.
While the marginal tribes like the Ewes have been planning for decades to form alliances with other minority tribes for political power, and thus economic ascendancy through the centralization of the nation's resources, Asantes in particular and Akans as a whole did not see the need to form our own political groupings. We just accepted the central government concept as unifying, believing that any government of the day would be fair.
Whilst the Awoonors, Tsikatas and Rawlings were planning their take over of the country, Asantes and other Akans like PV Obeng, Boakye Gyan, Tony Aidoo and others were foolishly following them and were being used to further their motives. The end result culminated in the 1979 coup and the AFRC era that systematically sought to purge Asantes and Akans from higher hierachies of decision making in the country.
With the targeted killing of Asantes and Akans judges and destructions of Akan businesses, we should have alerted ourselves and see what was coming. But as I speak there are prominent Asantes and other Akans who are still giving comfort and encouragement to these guys whose main agenda is to reduce Asantes and Akans to nothing.
I was very appalled to see the Asantehene honor Rawlings at Kumasi during a cultural festival some few years back. I thought honors go personalities who have had positive impart on society, but not on a sworn enemy of your people. That act was a betrayal of all Asantes. Here is a guy who because of jealousy and hatred for Asantes intentionally murdered Akwasi Amankwah Afrifa just to instill fear in Asantes and to brag openly about it. Note, Afrifa was bestowed the title, "Katakyie" by Asanteman and the Golden Stool during the reign of Opoku Ware II and to see the current Asantehene using his position as occupier of the stool to honor this human trash(rawlings)was dispicable.
One day the Asanteman Council and Otumfour would have to account for that traitorious act.
These kinds of action by our leaders have given courage to people like Rawlings, Koby Acheampong, Iddrisu and the likes to spew all these trash about Asantes and Akans in general.

You rightly point out intermarriages and the "bond resulting from our boarding school system". I am not Asante but attended boarding school in Asante and still have some of my best friends from the region. I have also worked (and continue to work closely) with Asantes I hold dear as friends.
The trouble with some of you is that you cannot accept defeat in anything be it sport e.g. Football or political elections. Your equivalent are the extremist right wing ignorant rural dwellers in the US who for some reason think their country has been invaded and has lost its very nature, just because a "black man" is now the president.
What has happened recently in Ghana during the period leading to, and after the last elections has been name-calling, insults and tribal bigotry perpetrated by both the NPP and NDC parties who should know better. If anything, the leadership of both major parties need to rein their supporters in and stop this nonsense.
The president only last week showed leadership and came out and called for the insults to stop and for us to move forward as one nation. For your selfish convenience, you completely 'missed' the president's admonition and could not even muster the humility to acknowledge nor praise his call for all supporters and politicians to stop the insults. Yet you write an article meant to raise the tension and incite ill-informed people to start behaving badly.
I don't know the context of the minister Harunah's question in parliament , nor do I condone irrelevant and stupid questions of that kind. But in the last few days, your ilk, led by Rockson Adofo and Justice Sarpong have been trying to raise the ante on this non-existent problem of hatred towards Asantes.
We cannot allow you to get away with this nonsense. You must start apologising to Ghanaians for this ridiculous nonsense and incitement which if anything, only betrays your hypocrisy, having spent lot of your time trying to describe others as latrine carriers, watchmen, cleaners, farm labourers and what have you.
Your problem is that you cannot accept that the children of these very people too somehow took up the opportunities presented to ALL of us to go to school, study hard and make something good out of their lives. You even miss the fact that for people like president Mahama, he was more privileged than many others in that his father was a government minister and politician.
Most of us (you, me, Adofo, justice, Ahoofe included) came from villages and very humble beginnings. Don't you think it is time we celebrated our collective and individual successes in life instead of come ting this tribal. Ivory Nd nonsense? Why can't you write positive things about how we can come together as one nation? Or you want a federal system and breaking away from the rest of the country?
What is it you are looking for? And by the way, if your party the NPP were to win power, will you expect it to rule across the whole of Ghana or only in Asanteman? I do not share Katakyies insinuations that tends to be insulting to other tribes in Ghana, but unfortunately, that is what Ghana's politics has been reduced to now, Thank to the Babies with sharp teeth who have become the pundits for the NDC on our electronic and print media these days. It is easy to rubbish katakyies allegations because you may not be Ashanti. but if you are, you feel it everywhere these days. Even in the workplaces, your chances of natural progressin is curtailed. Both sides of the political divide are guilty of this insulting behaviours. I do not think that supporters of NPP are opposed to a Northerner becoming president per-se. Afterall, Dr Hilla Limmahn was our president, and we all respected him. It is this same Dzelokope Mafia that refused him the opportunity to complete his term. Check the records again and you will find that, in Ghana's 56 years of existence its only 8 out of the total that we have had an Ashanti president in Kuffour. Nkrumah, Rawlings etc were non-Ashantis, and no one had any problem with that. Mahama as a president by itseld should pose no problem to no one. But Who ever seeks to rule our beloved Ghana must have the requisite legitimacy. If one party in the elections feel agrieved, our constitution provides a means for them to seek redress. And that is exactly what the NPP is doing. Our constitution requires that electoral grievances are resolved through the appropriate channels instead of resorting to violence and that is exactly what the NPP is doing. Let us all allow the courts to examine the evidence and pronounce an unbiased and an uncoerced verdit and we will all give the respect and legitimacy to whoever should be our leader. It is unfortunate that our politicians on both side have tried to play on tribal sentiments to win in the court of public opinion. This indeed is dangerous for our country. But The court case sets a very good precedence for Ghana that if politicians want to continue in power , they need to do acts that alleviate the sufferring of the people rather than resorting to propaganda as a tool of misinformation and control. If you are a regular contributer to this forum, you will see the mountain of insults that have been heaped on Akuffo -Addo and all others who subscribe to his ideology. All this for simply seeking redress for a perceived wrong. You and I cannot and should not presume the veracity or otherwise of the allegations as yet. We can only wait for the court ruling. Until then the legitimacy of Mahama remains questionable.
I am an Ashanti, and a proud one at that. I have very good Northern and Ewe friends as well, but that should not blind me to partern of antagonisms that may be exhibited against my kinfolks. Nazi Germany had many good hearted people at the time Hitler was sowing the seeds of hatred and antagonism towards the Jews in Europe. But when good men turn a blind eye to budding evil, that is when it is allowed to germinate to produce fruits which no one anticipated or desired. So it is not simply in the dream of the write. Brigadier Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa (24 April 1936 – 26 June 1979) was a Ghanaian soldier, farmer, a traditional ruler (king) and politician.
He was the head of state of Ghana and leader of the military government in 1969 and then Chairman of the Presidential Commission between 1969 and 1970. He continued as a farmer and political activist. He was elected Member of Parliament in 1979 but was executed before he could take his seat. He was executed together with two other former heads of state, General Kutu Acheampong and General Fred Akuffo and five other Generals (Utuka, Felli, Boakye, Robert Kotei and Amedume), in June 1979. He was also popularly referred to by his title Okatakyie /?o?kætæt?i?/ Akwasi Amankwaa Afrifa and was in addition the Abakomahene of Krobo in the Asante-Mampong Sekyere Traditional Area of the Ashanti Region of Ghana

Sure there some regions that probably due to their location and MAYBE because their families may be split by borders see themselves as foreigners and act as such. In a gathering they will deliberately begin to speak in their language to exclude everyone else no matter how rude, they will give better service amd opportunities not on merit nit on the favt that one is from the same region as they....this has always been the case but seriously such people are in the minority. Amd rational thinking Ghanaians must continue to frown on their attitude and educate them on how to stop such acts. Of course it does not help that we have a President who has by his words before elections that Northerners were tied of playing second fiddle( Mr. president, you owe us an apology for making such a statement) and by choosing so many Ministers obviously for tribal reasons may be fanning the flames of the otherwise small fire of tribalism that could so easily be quenched. Is was no surprise at all the Boakye Gyan and Nana Adomako Nyamekye who led the coup and even fought to take J.J Rawlings from PRISON became enemies for JJ and the Ewes. They had no other chance than to ran away the country until recently. From then, these Ewe bastards have tried all that they can to fiht against the Akans more especially the Asantes in sprit, economic, emotioal, phisical, and politically.
You know our brothers and sisters from the North are very easy to "buy" because of the strong econimic harchip in their area. So Rawllings(EWEs) took avangtage of that to woe their support in fighting against the Akans. That is where all the nonsence began.

My strong view, however is that Haruna's poor judgment should never be used as a pretext for the kind of bigoted and disparaging comments as made in this piece. As far as I am concerned, the language used here is as guilty and reckless as the conduct of Haruna and it must be roundly condemned by all well meaning Ghanaians. Ghana is a unitary state today and no Ghanaian should be made to feel any more or less Ghanaian anywhere on our national territory and that is the way things must remain.
