He has hit the nail right on the head. You can actully see a deliberate effort by the NDC to destroy Kumasi through neglect. cautiuosly speaking, with the help of some of the elders in Kumasi. How else could the NDC leave the NSAWAM -SUHUM stretch of the Accra - Kumasi road in such deplorable condition while they dole out millions to Wayome and their croonies.? They forget the economic importance of the road to the whole country seeing that land-locked countries in Bukina Faso and Mali now use the port of Tema for most of their imports and their haulage trucks use the road to transport goods to their respective countries. They are now concentrating on the eastern corridor because they want to bypass Kumasi in going to the North. But while they think they are punishing Kumasi, they punish their own people even more and sabotage Ghana in its competetion for Port business with Cote d'Ivoire. Most people going to the north go through Kumasi. It should be a journey of only 3-4 hours. But today it takes nearly 6 to 7 hours. Most affluent people in Kumasi fly there these days because of the nature of the road. I pray that which ever political party is in power emulates Kuffour's all inclusive agenda of national development rather than this ethnocentric approach fuelled by ethnic hatred and envy. The Leaders of Ashanti also need to sit up. Stop the grabbing and leave a positive legacy for posterity to be proud of. Let us not be like the provebial Ostritch, living in our past glories. Let us rise up and build on what our fathers left for us. So our children can come and praise us intead of condeming us. God help Kumasi. God help Ghana.

When news first came up that the Kumasi Asantehene had bought a 4 million dollar house in London, we discussed it.
'What is 4 million dollars? The Obuase gold mine alone can pay for that,' one Kumasi diehard retorted.
Erskine is a probing, thinking soul--the type Ghana needs.

As for the NDC 'punishing' Kumasi through 'benign neglect,' I do not know what to say. We have to look into that and find answers.

Most of the structures you see in Kumasi are owned by individuals and not gov't because they don't place their destiny in the hands of any gov't or the Asantehene. That is why you can find many talents from the region. Talk about musicians, sportsmen, movie artists and producers, businessmen, craftmen, academicians, you name them. As some of you insult them today, Kumasi is the powerhouse of Ghana Movie Industry. Kumasi and the Cape Coast are two of the most important tourist areas in Ghana, Many Africans in the diaspora consider these areas sacred, another area of interest is the Volta Region where many Africans born in the diaspora are also paying attention to.
Ghana needs a Political party with a solid PanAfrican ideology that eliminates tribalism, and has an all inclusive national 7, 8, 9, or 10 year development program, the politicians in this party must be prepared to tighten their belts and sacrifice with the people till the people's programs are completed.
The blindo politicians that make up the NDC/NPP revolving door parties, are pathetically bankrupt in terms of creative thinking, they are excellent at creative insulting, and saber rattling. THAT'S IT!!!
Beloveds, I'm not Ashanti, NDC, NPP nor am I a cocoonized tibalist, I have too much love and respect for Ghanaians to be anything other than a PanAfricanist/Nkrumahist. Government has a responsibility to develop the entire country, but focus on the key areas first.

Did all these troubles occur within the last 4 years of the NDC administration? The answer is a big NO! Who sold the greatest part of government lands in Kumasi and its environs? Be man enough to mention or point your fingers at the erstwhile Prsident Kufours's NPP administration. It is in the public's domain that even your King- The Great Asantehene had two plots of such once government lands registered under his name without his asking and even paying for them. To date, he still does not know who had actually purchased it for him... this I strongly believe occurred during the Kufour's era.

The irony is that,all the Kumasi MPs prefer to stay in hotels(for obvious reasons)when they return to the "Oseikrom" for the weekend 'funeral ritual'. I dare say that things were far better even when the eccentric Nana Akwasi was in charge! And judging from the tone of this write-up, I would`nt be surprided,if this 'City/Urban planner' extraordinaire now resident some where in the Garden State,has been a beneficiary of the "wonkyendi" he is lamenting about. Until Kuffour brought him back to Ghana from his "daily grind",was Kofi Ghana not living in Newark, NJ? What improvement did the NPP administration bring to Kumasi Metro, when they came to power?
If Kumasi becomes "A big village", it is because the indigenous people want to see it that way! Otherwise, how can anybody distinguish between those who live the 'good life' from the rest of us in the 'ghettos' we all all too familiar with?

But, Kwamina other than posting this article on the web, did you try to contact some powers that be to pose those same questions to? If not try to do that as a pilot project and see the outcome, you will be surprised. Also we should try our utmost best to refrain from the culture of tribal denigrations, they only fuel hatred and retrogression. Let's always have for our lessons what happened in other African countries when other tribes were denigrated. It caused bloodshed, chaos, civil war, destruction,economic retrogression, fear, pain and suffering, and permanent scars and trauma. We don't want that we want tolerance and understanding as one people indivisible under One God.

For Akan supremancy, Kibi should been one of the largest cities in the country. Kibi and Kumasi started on the same level but for the hate of alients and atrocities against other tribes Akyems alone could not develop Kibi unlike Kumasi that opens its hands to strangers.
If you care to know during NPP era, Ashantihene got a loan from IMF/World Bank to develop Ashanti through govt support. What is there to show for those projects, who pay back that loan? how many tribes got such opportuniteis?. Ashantis by nature are greedy than any other tribe in Ghana even in Africa.
