food for thought. i agree with you on many of the points but i think kwadawo asamoah was comfortable playing at that position.
certainly this should be the last tournament for paintsil, asamoah djan, derek boateng and even akaminko and afful.
i think the style of play did not help adomah and atsu and i blame it largely on the ineefectiveness of derek boateng.
in 1982, ghana's first match was a 2:2 draw with libya. the drab match against cameroun was the second match. two opening draws but we went ahead to win the cup.
i can't stop reading the following paragraphs:
John Paintsil talked himself back into the team and talked himself into a less than average performance.
Derek Boateng, along with Agyemang Badu, has, since the appointment of Kwesi Appiah, turned himself into an unofficial spokesman for the Black Stars. I thought he would transfer that into his performances on the pitch. While Agyemang Badu did well and even got a goal, I think Boateng should be retired to stud duties. He has done his bit for the nation. He must now admit he lacks the legs for top level competition
Poor Asamoah Gyan! What can I say? When this guy decided not to play for Ghana again, Kwesi Appiah, keeping to his determination to instil discipline and treat all players equally, went round the world at tax payers’ expense to plead with him to come back into the team as captain. I have said before, that players who play in places like the UAE lack the fitness and pace to perform in top level competition. I hope he proves me wrong and performs better in subsequent matches, because in the absence of Jordan Ayew, we do not have any better alternative, thanks to our disciplinarian coach.
Is it just me or did our players look out of breath and out of sorts in the latter parts of the game? Do we have a proper trained fitness coach in the team? Just a thought.
We can do better. I believe Atsu and Wakaso should be given a second chance in a 4-2-3-1 formation as follows;

Hmmm? Many many angles if you ask me......of looking at the Black Stars' performance on Sunday. I find it very amusing for those still complaining about K. Asamoah's positionin that match. Must we do what everyone is doing so we can be read easily .. For Christ sake, whilst at this same position Kwadwo created the first goal of the tournament and scored another goal ( the 2nd goal of the tournament? yet people are complaining?... Have we so soon forgotten what one German coach, Burkard, did to our national team players which turned round the fortunes of Foyoo and others????? Hey? We need to know the rules so well that we can break them to create new techique or innovations that will help the society or for this matter the team. Thanks to Coach Arday's multi system which won him a world cup in Equador2005 and later many accolades including FIFA sending him to many countries including Brazil to give lectures on his multi system in soccer!!!! Think about it, if he had used what is already in use who would have recognized him?

just like most, I was not impressed with our performance in the DRC game. Having said that, there were a few positives. We have a good goalkeeper in Dauda, K Asamoah influenced a competitive game for the BS for the first time as he created and scored one goal for us. At least we have goals in the team. Now the negatives. Our defense was not tight enough and our midfield was not very mobile. D. Boateng was pedestrian and Gyan did not stretch the opposition defense much. But then, this is only the first game in the tourney. I expect the Stars to perform much better against Mali, a game we need to win to secure a foothold in the group. Lets judge the team after the second game. I think this team has something about it that was not exhibited yesterday. There seems to be a lot more in store. They have to bring it out in the Mali game surely.

I guess you have given a fair assessment of the game and your rating on the players as you saw it.. That is the kind of comments that we love to read, that turns to build the national team rather than the INSULTS and character assasinations!!! Frankly speaking Kwesi met a match in Leroy who was his assistance in CAN 2008. Leroy have certain advantages that Kwesi did not posses.
1. He has coached Ghana before and so have first hand knowledge of our players which Kwesi can not boast of theirs...
2. He has more experience in Nation Cup champioships than Kwesi who is a debutant irrespective of his assistanship where he now calls the shots!
3. About 4 or more players including Atsu are all debutants so we do not expect them to be instant heroes.... Such players are introduced gradually but I am surprise how all the debutants gave a good account of themeselves and that gives me much hope for the future if this team is maiatained for long to gain the telepathy play which was lacking yesterday.. I know this comes with time... Unlike Ghana the Congo team benefited a lot from their tele-pathic play especially the goal that Mutu scored which is very similar to our first goal ( which involved K. Asamoah and Agyeman Badu.. check how many times they have played together)

Derek Boateng played a great game but it seemed to these wanna be soccer analyst like he played bad because our holding Midfielder, Atsu did not play a good game in this matc so our defensive midfielder, Derek Boateng was made to work overtime doing some of the work Atsu should have done.
It was only Derek who was able to match the Congolese strength. Annang came to the game and w were lucky we did not concede another goalbecause he lost every ball that was passed to him. Annag to me should not start any game because he is weak in the middle.

As a result he is a major focus so his good plays and bad plays are always easy to see. It is easy to forget bad plays from certain players who do not get as many touches. Can our Blackstars also play like the Zambians? Our football is bereft of the qualities I witnessed from the Zambians. These Zambians want to really defend the title.
In my view oor football can be uplifted if we learn to play as a team and ensure we create space in the game. The splendour with which we played in the past has been lost and it will take much commitment and determination.
