Great idea about the coaching college but you had no suggestions as to who should build it. I suggest that CAF should build each such college in the north, west, east and southern sections with some help from the national Organisations. Alternatively they could build one each for English and French speaking nations.
I agree with you that it was luck rather than localness that made Ghanaian coaches win the cup for us. Any local coach must be as experienced as any foreign coach we could have had. Unfortunately not many of our professional players are turning out into great coaches. Too bad. In Europe many of the clubs offer opportunities to the professional players to attend coaching courses while they are still active and when their careers end they already have coaching licenses - Rudi Voller, Klinsman, Gullit, Rijkaard, Koeman, Lothar Matteus and a whole host of others. Where are the Ghanaians in their ranks after more than 20 years of playing professional in Europe?

Quarshie was not a professional in 1982. He was with Sekondi Hasaacas. He played in Zamalek 83,84,85.

1978 was the third time Ghana won the trophy in Accra, not the fourth time. That was the time of Razak Abdul when Black Stars beat Philip Omondi's Uganda in the finals. And the 1982 squad was captained by Quarshie in Libya. Incidentally, that was the last time we won the trophy. We came near again in Dakar 199? but lost to Cote d'Ivoire on penalties. The Black Stars won their then all-white attire with a huge Black Star behind in which the player numbers appeared.
Good to have the facts correct but I think Papa Appiah wrote a nice piece.

By the way, what is your point in stating that there were foreign angles to all our championship years? Denigrating our contributions to the games?

A MENTION OF EGYPT WAS MADE FAIR ENOUGH. LOOK AT THE HOW THE GAME HAS GROWN LOCALLY AND LET US COMPARE THE SAME THING TO THE GAME IN SOUTH AMERICA. OUR COACHES ARE JUST SPINLESS AND CANNOT CAME AND SAY WHAT IS REALLY HAPPING BETWEEN THEM AND THE GFA POLITICS OF MAFIA. THE LASS COACH BROUGHT SOMETHING OUT AND WE HAD HIM ON THE GRILL. THIS IS A A CURSE.

The England example is not too good. Yes, England did go in for a foreign coach. But that foreign coach happened to be White not Black. Moreover, England has not achieved much when it comes to soccer. The country has only won one dubious World Cup.
Ghana should have relied exclusively on well-paid and motivated local coaches since they have won almost all the laurels for the country. Ghana would have won 10 or more African Cups by now and probably the World Cup too.
Good luck to Kwasi Appiah as he tries to win the African Cup for Ghana.
