The Ghanaian youth has become close minded, poorly educated, hedonistic and materialistic.
While their counter parts in Japan, Germany, South Korea and Malaysia are taking extra classes, learning physics, calculus and engineering, our youngsters are spending time azontoing, hiplifing, facebooking, engaging in sakawa activities, studying easy subjects like business, air condition and auto repairs, hawking and hoping to make it big by hook or crook.
Meanwhile, Japanese, German, Malaysian and Korean polytechnics are teaching their youth to design and build photo-voltaic panels, waste-to-energy systems, anaerobic digesters, bio-fuels, geothermal, and wind energy systems.
Our energy policy has to change, it can't be business as usual.
Electrical power constitutes the driving force that powers national development.
And the youth of Ghana should aggressively demand it.

As I took my quill to write this note in very simple and plain language, I wished to tell the story as it is, paint the future as it looks now".
My Take:
Hope Not Lost Keep Collaborating & Educating effectively, Just monitor the number of comments on this powerful article. Hmmm!
My primary concern is how to make STEMIC Skills & Systems feasible, affordable & acceptable to youth in a proactive way?
STEMIC, Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths, Innovation & effective communication .......

I like your analysis, as a result I will urge you not to loose hope because you have put your ideas across for the positive thinking Ghanaian to consider and think about. Therefore taking your quill to write this note in very simple and plain language is part of the duties of environmental activism. Prez Mahama has taken note I believe and all Ghanaians have done so, and surely there will be awakening. I will also like to thank other commentators of this article as my hope a are held high because I now know that there very objective Ghanaian around using this network for positive agenda and not to insult politically.

Gideon, What a great article. You attempted to put figures on the debate and challenged the state position fairly. Advice - don't loose hope or give up. Ghana(aians) have collectively given up hope on the state but luckily, are now diverting their immense energies into the creation of personal wealth (- I call it "THE AGE OF THE PROPHETS") so that they do not end up 'having walked' on this earth to achieve nothing. There will be a discovery (very soon) that in itself, that does not bring social peace and security but collectively there is the need to act to create a better state and this is where change activists like you come in- Don't give up for there is a time for everything - maybe a better approach is to look for like-minded people to develop lobby groups and encourage the right people to get involved in politics to enable specific agenda. There are the 3 components of implementing change successfully - having a plan, being represented and finally using the available time to implement the plan but for now, this can only be done within powerful lobby groups. Good luck and please do get in touch whenever you are feeling down.
