High Academy School wins TB quiz

Kumasi, March 13, GNA - High Academy Basic School in Kumasi scored 44 and a-half points to win the first ever inter-schools National Tuberculosis Control Sensitisation Quiz Competition organised by the Asokwa Sub-metropolitan Directorate of the Ghana Health Service in Kumasi on Friday.

Kyirapatre Basic School came second in the keenly contested three rounds competition with 41 points, while Joy Standard Basic School took the third position with 39 points.

For their prize, High Academy received a cash of 50,000 cedis, a wall clock and a set of books, Kyirapatre School had 30,000 cedis, a wall clock and a set of books and Joy Standard also took home 20,000 cedis, a wall clock and a set of books.

Addressing the participants after the competition at Kyirapatre, Nana Owusu Annor Panin III, Kyirapatrehene, urged the students to take their studies seriously so that the huge investment on them by their parents and the government would be beneficial to them. Nana Owusu Annor, who donated the 100,000 cedis, which was shared to the winning schools, indicated that education was the only legacy parents could bequeath to their children in this present era of development.

Mrs Susana Baffour Awuah, Asokwa Sub-metropolitan TB Co-ordinator, expressed regret that many people infested with the disease failed to report at hospitals for treatment, even though it was free of charge. She advised persons who experienced regular coughs to report at the hospital for advice.
