Yaw Appiah's gospel reggae

IN recent times, hiplife artistes seem to be doing a great job with the beautiful blend of their compositions with old highlife tunes. Soon, however, hiplife artistes will no longer be taking all the credit as gospel musicians are gradually becoming strong contenders.

One of such gospel musicians is John Yaw Appiah, whose debut album titled Medze Meho Ma Yesu scores very impressive marks.

The title song is admirable for its well presented chorus and happens to be an Akan version of Lucky Dube’s Remember Me. Yaw does a cool job here and adds a lot of finesse giving the song a different colour from what we hear around often.

Yaw then zooms in with Egya Onyame Ye, a typical fast-paced gospel praise song which dovetails into M’Ano Mfamfa, a gentle, prayerful and spirit invoking song to end side A of the album.

Side B has three English songs, Jesus I Love You, Praise Him and I will Bless The Lord. They are all just right to put listeners in a good mood. The album is a generally good one and could have been even better if the backers had put in a lot more attitude into their singing whilst the soloist may need to work a little more on his voice level pushups to give it the necessary impact. The thirty-year-old worshipper of Gethsemane Methodist Church, Mamprobi, Yaw Appiah dedicates his album to his lovely wife Caroline Appiah, who, he admits has been part of the very tough journey towards producing the album.
