Ghana’s leading urban youth radio station, YFM, has once again proven that it is not just an entertainment powerhouse but also a caring station as it has launched an innovative fundraising campaign dubbed ‘Y CARES’ to support the June 3 Circle fire disaster.
The launch which took place on Monday 13th July at the Silver Lounge, Accra Mall featured officials from YFM, Databank Ark Fund, Junction Mall, members of the Ghanaian media, members of YFM’s Y Campus Express and several other supporters.

As main sponsors of this initiative, Databank was duly represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Kojo Addae-Mensah and Chief Marketing Officer, Gillian Hammah.

‘The campaign is primarily aimed at helping survivors of the Circle fire disaster which occurred on June 3 after torrential rains in Accra.

The launch will therefore be followed by a series of activities including a charity Car Wash on Saturday 18th July, 2015 at the Junction Mall, Nungua Barrier to raise funds, of which proceeds will be donated to the Burns Unit at the Korlebu Teaching Hospital.

In a comment, Mr. Akwasi Agyeman, Managing Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcast Unit, said:

“the June 3 fire disaster affected all of us in the country and there is therefore the need to help alleviate the pains of survivors of the incident. For us at YFM, we will continue to explore creative avenues through which we can lend a helping hand, in order to contribute towards making society a better place for young people and everybody in the country”.
