Women Journalists urged to write books

Accra, July 27, GNA - Dr Mrs Gladys Ashitey, Deputy Minister of Health, on Wednesday launched a book entitled "Mrs Doctor" with a call on women especially Journalists to write books to serve as educative material for posterity.

Mrs Mercy Ama Anim, a Veteran Journalist and Founder of Little Angels Day Care Centre in Spring Valley, New York, US wrote the book, which is a story of faith, hope and destiny. In "Mrs Doctor", the author weaves a tale of intrigue involving the childhood and adolescent life of Lucy in early, post independence Ghana.

And the reader is then smoothly and seamlessly transmitted to the United States where the emotional and financial vicissitudes of Lucy's life continues.

It contains a universal theme of success and in its first half the reader goes through a complex melange of emotions, ranging from disgust and all the brazen exploitation of girls and women by men with wealth and authority.

Dr Mrs Ashitey commended Mrs Anim for her efforts in writing the book designed to satisfy the desire of English language students by offering them the opportunity to read and improve their grammar. Mrs Anim, who is a product of the Ghana Institute of Journalism, has been working with children for the past 12 years. She worked as a reporter with the Ghana Information Service in Sekondi for three years before quitting to become a businesswoman. She is currently the President of African American Cultural Enrichment Centre.

Mrs Anim said the children handled inspired her to write the book adding, "I wanted to give something back to the children, who over the years have brought so much joy to my heart.

"Since 1999, I have been awarding scholarships to deserving children enrolled at the Centre, which amounts to about 5,000 dollars in scholarship fund and I want to even do more."

Some of the proceeds from the sale of the book in the USA would go towards scholarship fund for all the children enrolled at the Centre and that the book was launched in Ghana with the vision to donate some of the proceeds to children institutions in the country.
