Two sureties ordered to produce accused

Tema, March 25, GNA - The Tema Circuit 'A' Court on Thursday ordered two men who stood sureties for a suspected thief to produce the accused, following the discovery of some of the missing items in the suspect's room.
The presiding judge, Mr Charles Asiedu, ordered Charles Hammond and Lawrence Otu to produce Nicholas Nortey, an electrician within one month or pay the bail bond.
Hammond and Otu bailed Nortey in the sum of 50 million cedis each in two separate theft cases involving the accused with an undertaking to produce him anytime the police needed him.
Inspector Adolphus Otchere told the Court that in December last year, the accused was introduced to one Collins Donkor as someone who could help clean up his (Donkor's) room, located within the Sakumono Estates, near Tema, which was hit by floods.
He said since the accused began working at Donkor's place, certain household items could no longer be traced.
Inspector Otchere said on February 9, this year at about 2300 hours, Donkor, who had returned from work, noticed that his key could not open his door.
After forcing the door open, Donkor detected that his Compact Disc (CD) player, an Amplifier and two speakers were missing, so he lodged a report with the police.
Police examinations revealed that the intruder used a duplicate key to open the door, and on suspicion, Mr Donkor led the police to the room of the accused where some black shoes, a duplicate key, camera, a black wallet and other items belonging to the complainant were found. But the CD player, amplifier and the two speakers were not there.
Inspector Otchere said the police later granted the accused police enquiry bail in the sum of 50 million cedis with Hammond as surety. The Court heard that Nortey had earlier been involved in a stolen case in December last year at the Sakumono Estate involving jewelleries valued at 47 million cedis belonging to his cousin.
He was granted bail and Otu stood surety for him in the sum of 50 million cedis. The Court heard that presently, Nortey could not be traced since he was granted bail.
