Trader jailed for biting off co-tenant's finger

Accra July 4, GNA - An Accra Regional Tribunal on Friday sentenced Mercy Danquah, a 30 year old trader to two years imprisonment with hard labour for biting off a co-tenant's finger and a portion of her arm. Danquah pleaded not guilty but was found guilty by the court. Police Chief Inspector Kofi Adu had told the court that the complainant, Jennifer Baah, a hairdresser, resided in the same house with Mercy at Alhaji, a suburb of Accra.

The prosecution said Mercy's husband was a caretaker of the house and collected electricity and other utility bills from other tenants. On February 10, last year, electric power to the house was cut off and the complainant approached Mercy's husband as to why he had not been paying monies he collected and also failed to show the bills to other tenants. The prosecution said this resulted in a quarrel and they were separated. Mercy, who was on her way to bath, attacked the complainant for insulting her husband. During the ensuing fight Mercy bit Jennifer's arm and right finger off as she tried to free herself. Mercy was arrested and charged after investigations.
