Too much hypocrisy among gospel musicians – Gideon Aryeequaye

Broadcaster, Gideon Aryeequaye has said that the level of hypocrisy among gospel musicians has risen so high.

His comment comes on the back of reports that gospel artiste, Naa Mercy, criticised colleague, SP Kofi Sarpong for singing Kofi Kinaata’s ‘Susuka’ at Francis Amo’s Garment of Worship.

Naa Mercy is reported to have said so after she took her turn to minister unto the gathering. She was said to have stated that it was unholy for such a song to be sung on that platform because God is a jealous God.

Speaking on the issue on Pluzz FM’s AM Pluzz, Gideon Aryeequaye who has emceed a number of events said he found absolutely nothing wrong with anyone singing such an inspirational piece.

According to him, it is rather wrong for someone to criticise a fellow for singing a song which tells people to be content with their situation as others are in worse situations.

“Everyone needs to be motivated. If you listen to the lyrics of the song, you will appreciate it. I’m very disappointed because even if he faulted, you don’t have to say it openly on that platform. That portrays you in a negative way. The hypocrisy is too much. If someone does something good, let’s commend him. Listen to the lyrics well. If it were any of those worldly songs, we would back her but…,” he said.

“I went to emcee an event at a church. The words I heard from some gospel musicians backstage made me wonder if they were truly gospel artistes,” Gideon Aryeequaye added.

Meanwhile, manager of SP Kofi Sarpong, Kwasi Ernest, has described the comments from Naa Mercy as immature.
