Reported participation of Asantehene in Asogli Yam Festival denied

Ho, Sept. 22, GNA - Mr John Kukah, Secretary to the Asogli State Council has denied news reports that the Asantehene was going to be one of the special guests at this year's Asogli Yam Festival.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Ho on Friday, he said the information, which was picked from one of the local FM stations, was misleading.

Meanwhile, the Ho Township has taken on a festive mood on Friday with the main streets jammed with people in a long procession accompanied by traditional drumming to mark the symbolic lifting of the ban on the entry of new yam into the Asogli State, which is traditionally called "teyuyru".

This has brought traffic to a virtual halt around the Central Market area through the Civic Centre to Mawuko Park, as thousands of young men and women and chiefs paraded the streets with some in traditional war attire called "adewu".

The celebration of the Asogli Yam festival has for three years now assumed very prominent dimensions, following the installation of Togbe Afede XIV, as the Agbomefia.
