No GTV signals for Saboba/Chereponi District

Saboba(N/R), Feb. 02,GNA - Residents of the Saboba/Chereponi District cannot receive television signals from Ghana Television and this is impacting negatively on their social, economic and political lives.
"We are unable to benefit from the President's Distance Education Programme and we do not know what is happening on the political and economic fronts. The district is like a state within Ghana," a resident lamented.
Mr. Augustine Dokurugu Isaac, Bio-statistics Assistant of the Saboba Medical Centre told the GNA on Tuesday that due to the absence of television signals, people within the district were unable to watch the on-going African Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt. "The only consolation is that we are receiving television signals from two television stations in Togo but we have a problem with the language,French. Sometimes they show pornographic films on these channels and this in a way, is not helping the fight against HIV/AIDS menace in the district," He said.
Mr. Isaac bemoaned the lack of communication facilities in the area, which was impacting negatively on the social and economic lives of the people.
He said apart from Areeba phone services, which were patronised by the few rich people, there was no Ghana Telecommunication facility within the district.
Mr Isaac said the absence of these facilities were some of the reasons why people were unwilling to accept postings to the district and called on the authorities to address the problem. Reverend Edward Ngon, Presiding Member of the Saboba/Chereponi District Assembly said the assembly was collaborating with the authorities to provide the district with these facilities.
