Nigerien Fraudster Granted Bail

An Accra Circuit Tribunal yesterday granted bail to a Nigerien national, Innusah Bomboro, for allegedly defrauding five other Nigeriens of US$214,354.00 under the pretext of giving them the cedi equivalent.

He has been charged formally with stealing ,but he pleaded not guilty to the charge and upon submission by his counsel, the tribunal chairman Mr. Imoru Ziblim, granted him bail worth ?500 million with two sureties each to be justified. The case has been adjourned to July 10, 2001.

Inspector E.T Boison who is leading the prosecution told the court that the complainants, Mumuni Zakari, Osmanu Salika, Abdul Baki Malik, Ibrahim Zibo and Saliu Kaletey all Nigeriens have been doing business with the accused for almost a year now.

In April this year Bomboro approached the complainants and collected an amount of US$ 214,354.00 to change its equivalent into cedis for them. But after taking the foreign currency he has been playing hide and seek with them.

According to the prosecution the accused was arrested on June 4 this year, and during investigations he admitted taking the money. He also confirmed using part of the money to purchase four private cars. Based on his confession, he was formally charged with the offence .

The prosecution tended in ?24 million and two private cars as exhibits from the accused. Bomboro had been on remand since his arrest on June19 this year.
