National brass band competition held at Agona Swedru

Agona Swedru, July 9, GNA- Brengle Brass Band Music Group, from Greater Accra Region, was on last Saturday adjudged the best band in the southern sector of the country in a competition held at Agona Swedru in the Central region.

Agona Swedru brass band placed second, Christ Prince of Peace brass band from Ho was third and Keta Roman Catholic brass band placed forth. Brengle brass band took home a new set of brass band instruments and 500 Ghana Cedis, Christ Prince of Peace brass band had 300 Ghana cedis and Kasapreko products and Keta Roman Catholic brass band received 100 Ghana cedis and Kasapreko products while other groups were given certificate of participation and products of Kasapreko.

The competition was organized by the Dateline Marketing Limited and sponsored by Kasapreko Distillers Company Limited for 15 brass band groups from the Western, Central, Greater Accra and Volta Regions. Mr Kobina Yankah, Managing Director of Dateline Marketing Company, said the competition was to revive brass band music, one of Ghana's traditional music and to select four bands from the competing regions for future competitions.

Mr Samuel Obodai, Deputy Central Regional Minister and Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West, said government was committed to providing infrastructure and ensuring human development to enhance quality of life.

He commended Kasapreko for sponsoring the competition and asked other companies to emulate the initiative. Mr Ben Mensah, Agona West Municipal Chief Executive, said the competition helped to revive brass band groups which had become dormant. He said the assembly would assist organizers of any such programme in future and praised all the bands that took part in the competition.
